Chicken Offerings return of the

Edith’s Chicken Kitchen

A tribute to Judge & Mrs. Wesley Osborne of the Sugar Pine Ranch 1946-1996

Sugar Pine Ranch History “In 1946 the Peri Ranch was purchased by Edith and Wes Osborne. No electricity, water or heating was in the old house. The fireplace, a jewel of the Sierras’, was their only means of heat. In 1947 they built the first cabin, thus creating one of the most enjoyable stops along the way. The rest is history. Soon, Mrs. Osborne’s chicken dinners became famous, and their hospitality was known world wide.” Courtesy of Craig and Elaine Maxwell, owners of The Sugar Pine Ranch

Introduction While talking with dinner guest, Barbara Gustafson, daughter of Judge and Mrs. Wesley Osborne, Innkeeper Peggy was inspired to offer tribute to Edith Osborne, one of the Grand Ladies on The Hill. In 1946 the Osbornes purchased an old 1860’s era ranch and transformed it into the Inn at Sugar Pine Ranch. From the moment they opened, Edith Osborne was known throughout the area for her delicious chicken dishes. We are proud to pay tribute to Edith’s skill and renown through this new, additional menu, Chicken Offerings: Return of Mrs. Osborne’s Chicken Kitchen of the Sugar Pine Ranch at The Groveland Hotel. Each of the five Chicken dishes is offered as a meal in three courses. Although we can’t bring you Mrs. Osborne’s original 1946 pricing, we think you will be tempted by the $14.95 cost as well as the warm and cozy comfort food. __________________________________________________________________________________

Just a little note of interest: The picture on the cover of the Sugar Pine Ranch menu was found on ebay with the following comment: "Cannot find a date, but can tell you that ham & eggs with toast and coffee set you back $1.30."
