Leif Eriksson

Leif Eriksson was born in Iceland and lived there for about 25 years. He was born about in the 960 and died about 1020. Leif Eriksson traveled to Greenland in 985 because his father murdered two people in Iceland. He went to explore other lands and returned to Iceland in the year 1000. King Olaf, King of Norway, commissioned Leif Eriksson to go on his voyage to Vinland. Leif Eriksson brought 2 ships with a 35 crew members to Vinland (in America). Francisco de Coronado

Francisco de Coronado was born in Salamanca, Spain in 1510 and died in 1554. He sailed for Spain. Francisco de Coronado!s journey was to discover the Seven Cities of Gold, which were said to be located in southern New Mexico. He started his journey on June 1,1540 with a crew 225 cavalry men and sixty foot soldiers. On his way to find the Seven Cities of Gold he was attacked by many different tribes of Indians. The journey ended in 1554 because most of his men died and the Seven Cities of Gold did not exist. Coronado discovered the Grand Canyon on his journey by mistake, later to have said to be an amazing discovery. Francisco de Coronado was famous for discovering the Grand Canyon. Christopher Columbus

Christopher was born in 1451 and he got famous by sailing. King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain sent Christopher to explore. He explored San Salvador and Cuba.


Vasco da Gama

Vasco da Gama was born in about 1460 in Sines, Portugal. He was famous because he was the first man to sail to India. King Manuel of Portugal sponsored Vasco da Gama. He made two voyages. His purpose to sail to India was to trade goods like spices. The four ships he used for his first voyage were the Sao Gabriel, the Sao Rafael, the Berrio and a storeship. King John III sent Vasco da Gama to India as Viceroy, but he became sick and died on Dec.24, 1524. His body was moved back to Portugal. But, in 1880 his body moved to Belem, Portugal. Sir Francis Drake sailed for England. He was born in 1540 and died in 1596. He wanted to sail across the world.(circumnavigation). His first voyage was at ten years old. He was a huge enemy of King Philip the Second, King of Spain. Sir Francis Drake defeated the Spanish Armada in the English Channel, the north and west seas west of Ireland. It took place in the year and month of september 1588. Sir Francis Drake married Mary Newman in 1569. In 1577 Queen Elizabeth gave Drake five ships and he continued the war against the Spanish army. The next year Sir Francis Drake!s ships were lost except his ship the golden hind. Sir Francis Drake had 35 warships and 168 merchant ships. FRANCISCO PIZARRO

Francisco Pizarro was born in Trujillo, Spain, which is the country he sailed for. He was born in 1475 and died in 1541. He was born into a poor family and his parents were never married. He wanted to find the Inca Empire in what is now called Peru in South America. The Inca empire was called the Land of Gold in his time. Pizarro brought a group of men on three ships to help him find the Inca Empire. He went on a Spanish galleon and captured the Inca king. His purpose of this voyage was to be rich. The date of this voyage was unknown. The Inca Empire told Pizarro that they would give him gold and silver if he let their leader go. Pizarro agreed, but he waited until all of the gold was delivered to him. Pizarro didn’t let the Inca leader go because he quickly found the leader guilty of false charges. He killed the Inca leader by choking him to death. He lied to Almagro, his partner and gave him less than his share of gold should be. Pizarro later killed Almagro because Almagro took Pizarro’s half brother. A few years later, a band of men loyal to Almagro murdered Pizarro while the rest of his men ran away. Juan Ponce de Leon

Juan Ponce de Leon was born in 1460 and died in 1521. He helped a knight for the trade of learning to read, write, and fighting . When he was 15 he choose to be a knight. He asked King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain if he could go with Columbus as his knight and they responded with a yes. In February 1495 Columbus and Juan Ponce de Leon came in between Dominica, Puerto Rico and Hispanola in the expedition. In 1513 Juan Ponce de Leon asked the King and Queen of Spain if he could go on an expedition around the Caribbean sea and they told him yes. Years later in 1521 he went on an expedition in Cuba, it was is last voyage. In between 1513 and 1521 he was looking for a legend call the Fountain of Youth. Created by: Rudy and Ryu

John Cabot

John Cabot was born in Genoa,Italy in 1450 and he died in 1499. John Cabot was famous for his voyage to Newfoundland. His trip was in 1497 and they came back about a month later. The country that sponsored John Cabot was Great Britain. The purpose of the voyage was to find spices and riches. John had one ship and a crew of 18 sailers. Sir Francis Drake

Sir Francis Drake was born in 1540 England. At the age of ten Drake made his voyage to sea. Sir Francis Drake died at sea in 1596. When Drake was old enough he went with his cousin John Hawkins bringing African slaves to the new world. Drake made a voyage to south America with his men. But as they were sleeping the Spanish attacked. Drake and his men had to fight them off after that Drake became life long enemies of the spanish.he soon went back to south discovering distant lands of south America. But that wasn!t the reason why he came back. He came to kill the Spanish and burn villages. They called him a pirate.Sir Francis Drake went down in history. Henry Hudson

Henry Hudson was born in London, England in 1565 and died in 1611. Henry was sponsored by The Muscovy Company. He went on three voyages with his ships. His first ship was the Hopewell. His second voyage was with the Blue Moon. His third voyage was with the Discovery. His voyages were tough because he fought the Lenape Indians and his ship was trapped in ice. The purpose of his voyage was to find the Northern Passage to Asia. His first voyage was on May 1, 1607 and that voyage failed then he tried again for the Passage to Asia in April 22,1608. His last voyage was on April 17,1610. Henry discovered the Hudson River in that voyage. Created by Jack and Chris.


Christopher Columbus

Christopher Columbus was born in Italy in 1451. Christopher Columbus died on May 20,1506. Christopher Columbus is famous for his voyage in 1492, when he discovered the Bahamas. Christopher Columbus was commissioned to go on his voyage by King Ferdinand the 3rd and Queen Isabella of Spain. The purpose of Christopher Columbus!s voyage,was to find trade routes to the east Indies, or southeast Asia. Christopher Columbus sailed on every voyage he made. On August 3,1492, Christopher Columbus left Spain and sailed towards the Southeast Indies. Instead, he landed in the Bahamas on October 12,1492. Christopher Columbus wanted to to find a quicker way to get to the southeast indies, so that Spain could easily trade with them. He had three ships accompany him on his voyage. Christopher Columbus!s accomplishment was trading goods with the Taino. The highlights of the voyage was the crew because they wanted to turn back because the diseases made the men sick or die. Our explorer did not find what he wanted,but he found something better, he found the Taino people and traded with them. When our explorer came back to Spain from his voyage to the bahamas he brought back goods and slaves.
