It's a total lack of respect and due reverence to refer to Oprah Winfrey as a "pop icon." Okay, there's not much argument that she's reached iconic status, but Oprah has certainly transcended even this lofty realm. I'm reminded of very specific people, places and things whenever Oprah comes to mind. As far as I'm concerned, the only truly significant difference between Oprah, and people like Martin Luther King Jr., Joan of Arc, Mother Theresa, and Ghandi is that she has no real opposition. Those who have falsely accused Oprah in the past, attempted to slander her name, or otherwise have sought to sling mud, have been about as relevant as a dust mite in a tornado. Oprah is an oasis. A dream in constant motion. A religious experience. Oprah is a miracle. Yes, if you believe in miracles, you'll know exactly what I mean. Oprah's accomplishments are not the miracles. The miracle is that a once sexually abused, nappy headed little colored girl from the south had the nerve to even think she could one day become who she is now. Oprah is neither "simply inspirational," nor "just powerful." She manages (to me at least) to easily transcend these as well. Oprah IS inspiration. She IS power. There was a time when I wasn't always so laudatory of Oprah. That was until I was delivered from my own self-oppression, and self-delusion about very key things in my life. No, I won't be naming any of my children Oprah, or any variation of her name. I won't even suggest to them that they should aspire to be like her. But I will let them know that miracles are available to everyone, and that dreams are simply blueprints for the ongoing construction of our lives. Did I need Oprah Winfrey to inspire me in this way? I don't know. But I do know that with all of the negatives in the world, it's sure nice to live on a planet with a positive like Oprah Winfrey in it.

Living behind bars twenty-three hours out of twenty-four, having food sent through a slot in the door, and not receiving mail that might keep your spirits up is only part of what Brian's "life" presently consists of. Brian Franklin Thames describes the total mockery of justice in which he

found himself the wrongful centerpiece, the process by which he was incarcerated, an the unyielding, undying hope of living in the free world again.
