An Olympic Lesson in Motivation The saying goes: The expert in anything was once a beginner in everything. Truer words were never spoken. But this isn't what we see. This isn't what we feel when we watch things like the Olympics. It isn't what we think when we watch any expert or great success. We see the finished product, shining brightly in designer packaging. We see triumph and achievement, not training. We see the riches, not the rags. And this, as much as anything else, is why motivation - that inner drive that carries us toward all we desire continues to escape us. The Olympians we admire might possess unique physical talent and natural gifts, but that inner fire that compels them forward is within us all. Whether it's a friend who lost forty pounds or a track star streaking across the screen, our eyes can only see what is in front of us. And more often than not, that picture of success is daunting. It's overwhelming, to see ourselves reaching those heights. No, it's more than that. It's unbelievable. Every marathon runner had to run his or her first mile, every person that lost weight had to lose their first pound, every doctor had to take his or her first class, every expert was once novice. When we view success at its peak, we feel separated from it. We see ourselves as incapable of doing something similar. Take a book, for instance. Seeing

a novel on a shelf leads to the same conclusion in the minds of anyone posed with the question: 'Oh, I could never write a book.' This view is all wrong. The reason? Authors don't write books. What Do Authors Write? Authors write words. This is one of the most important ideas to understand. I know it sounds simple, but it separates those who progress from those who wish and wait. We've already said that most see the finished product and feel overwhelmed by the prospect of achieving the same goal. If this only occurred when watching an Olympic athlete, there would be little issue. But that's not how it works. We get that same sense of inability when viewing any worthwhile achievement. Losing weight, becoming an expert in their field, overcoming personal debt - these are outcomes millions wish to pursue but don't believe they can achieve. They can't see past the finished product. To get motivated, to truly ignite your drive, you must see your goals as achievable. You must believe in yourself and your abilities. You must see success, not as a matter of unattainable greatness, but merely as a matter of time. One step, one movement, one decision, one action. These are the things that feed success. These are things that you can do today! -

Poppin’ Off with Casey Everyone has heard the song “Happy” from Pharrell Williams. My kids LOVE it! If you haven’t, you’re living under a rock. Different things make different people happy. I’m happy hunting, golfing, playing poker and hanging with friends. Other than the hanging with friends thing, my wife would dislike every one of those. So what makes you happy is different with each person. However, I read a GREAT article that explains the Top 20 things to let go of in order to be happy. I thought these things could register with most in order to be happier. Here is the list of my favorite 10... The 10 Things You Need To Let Go To Be Happy - Ashley Fern, 1. The Approval Of Others - Who gives a sh*t what other people think? Think of how much you could achieve if you stopped letting other people’s opinions dictate the way you live your life. 2. Anger/Resentment - Anger will eat at you from the inside. Learn how to make peace with those who have wronged you. Keep in mind that he who angers you, controls you.

3. The Idea That Good Fortune Will Arrive At Your Doorstep - You need to go out into the world and actively look for fulfillment. You cannot take a backseat in life and expect things to happen for you. Appreciate the life you live, value each minute, live like there’s no tomorrow, and be grateful for the life you have.

Continued 4. Excuses - Make no time for excuses. Excuses are only rationalizations that make you feel better about yourself for not doing something you want/need to be doing. You desire results? Stop complaining, and start doing.

8. Jealousy - Stop envying others and learn to appreciate what you have. When we act in a jealous manner, all we do is bring negative feelings into our lives. There is absolutely nothing to gain from behaving this way.

5. Procrastination - Live in the present, and get your work done when it needs to be done. Complete each task you need to as soon as you can. You allow yourself more free time to enjoy the things you love.

9. Insecurity - Happy people tend to have extremely high levels of self-esteem. They accept who they are and work it everyday of their lives. If there are things you are self-conscious about, go out into the world and seek to change them. Only you have the ability to create the best version of yourself.

6. Negativity - What you put out into the universe will come back to you, so change the way you think, immediately. Anything is possible in the mind of a positive thinker.

10. The Past - Stop living in the past! Take past mistakes as lessons learned, and move forward.

7. Judgmental Thoughts - You have no idea what is going on in another person’s life, so who are you to pass judgment?
