On the heels of the $3.5 billion project to create Schuylkill Yards, a 14-acre commercial and residential revitalization of West Philadelphia, a second plan to revolutionize the 30th Street Station is in the works—with an estimated completion date even further out than the former’s lengthy 20-year span. The Philadelphia 30th Street Station District Plan (philly district30.com) is projected to take more than three decades in construction to boost station capacity and expand open space for the city as part of a joint effort between Amtrak, Drexel University, Brandywine Realty Trust, and SEPTA. Features of the plan include reconnecting the Amtrak station with the 30th Street subway station and building a new intercity bus terminal with a pedestrian bridge that connects the train to the station. Also in the works is a blend of commercial, residential, and recreational space to make the station a more dynamic destination for the thousands of passengers that pass through each day. Not far from 30th Street Station, University City’s newest skyrise, 3737 Chestnut (3737chestnut .com), is adding to the neighborhood’s fast-growing cachet. All 276 luxury apartment units in the 26-story building offer îî

3737 Chestnut’s sleek lobby is the entryway to luxury amenities such as a rooftop lounge, a billiards and game room, and a yoga studio.
