This season we are inspired by the extraordinary in the everyday.

Highlights of our programme include: - Our Artist in Residence programme with artist Richard Bliss, investigating identity through his work and exhibition ‘Man-Made’. - The Cornish Centenary 2019 - we are one of six venues across the county. Explore our exhibition ‘Norman Cornish: A Man of Destiny’, examining the artist’s attributes, extraordinary perseverance and determination. - ‘The Big Draw’ is the world’s biggest drawing festival. Join us in October for our day of free Big Draw family activity at Moore Lane. - Our creative activities, workshops and courses inspired by our season and encouraging us to notice the extraordinary in the everyday. ‘Man Made’ An investigation and exploration of how men adjust to changing masculinity.

An exhibition by Artist in Residence Richard Bliss exploring identity and masculinity, including work supported by Lubaina Himid (Turner Prize Winner 2017) and artist William Titley. Thursday 25th July - Wednesday 18th September 2019 Preview and talk event Wednesday 24th July 18:00 - 20:00 Richard has been collaborating with our Greenfield Arts community during public events, Cree workshops and with volunteers during his residency. This has informed the work of the ‘Man-Made’ exhibition. Further project work is being developed in collaboration for 2020.


Young People and Families

We are part of the Big Draw Campaign This year the theme is ‘drawn to life’ Big Draw join us at Moore Lane Eco Centre and help us create an exciting artwork during our drop-in day of activity on Tuesday 29th October. 10:30-15:00 free. Free Family Workshops join us in December and take part in our free wreathmaking workshops - 23rd December at Foundations, Shildon and 24th December at Greenfield Arts, Newton Aycliffe 10.30-12.30. Arts Award at Greenfield Arts artist Dawn Belshaw will work with young people (7-12) to support their creativity, produce their own artwork and earn a valuable accredited award. Thursdays 7th November-12th December 2019 15:30-17:30 £25. Art Club our free Monday creative sessions with resident artist Dawn Belshaw creating work inspired by our season and exhibitions. ‘Norman Cornish: A Man of Destiny’

Thursday 10th October - Wednesday 11th December 2019 Preview Wednesday 9th October 18:00 - 20:00 Greenfield Arts are thrilled to host this exhibition which chronicles the journey of Norman Cornish and the great determination and resilience he showed to become a professional artist. Featuring personal quotes from Cornish and an interesting narrative, the exhibition highlights key moments of his career and showcases work that was produced when materials or conditions were not always optimal. Inspired by Cornish… ‘The Extraordinary in the Everyday’ Free Key Stage 2 primary school workshops. Visit the exhibition and work with Norman’s daughter-in-law, Dorothy Cornish, to explore the work of this extraordinary artist in an interactive workshop. Four sessions are available at our gallery. Artist in Residence Tony Gadd Spoken word artist, Tony Gadd, will work with Greenfield Arts and visitors to the exhibition to create a new piece of written work. Tony will also work with KS3 students at Greenfield Community College to creatively respond to the Cornish exhibition. Visual Arts Project Richard Bliss will work with our Men’s Cree and students, inspired by the exhibition, to examine the social context of the work and aspects of masculinity. Develop Sketchbook Techniques Thursday 14th, 21st and 28th November 18:30 - 20:30 - Three drawing workshops inspired by Cornish encouraging us to notice the extraordinary in the everyday - work with artist Graham Stead to develop your skills and techniques £35. Live performances

We work with a range of partners to bring live performance to our area. Greenfield Arts are delighted to continue to work with Theatre Hullabaloo and their Take Off Festival to bring high quality and innovative performances to Greenfield Community College and local primary schools. ‘My Friend Selma’, is a remarkable real-life story of one girl’s journey from war in Bosnia to safety in the UK, a tale of an incredible journey, a world turned upside down, loss, friendship, courage and conkers. Performances run for 40 mins with a 20/30-minute exhibition tour. Performances take place at Greenfield Community College, Shildon Site. Print making Thursday 10th, 17th and 24th October 18:30 - 20:30 with Alan and Helen Holcroft. Learn techniques such as lino printing, chine colle and trace monotype and create a final piece of work to take home £40. Cyanotype Tuesday 24th September 10:30 - 14:30 with Elaine Vizor, learn more about the Cyanotype photographic printing process and produce a cyan-blue print to take away £35.
