What’s your favorite part of your job? My favorite

specific thing to do is visiting our public schools and spending time with students. Meeting our future leaders is always a great pick-me-up. More broadly, an incredibly rewarding part of serving as mayor is the ability to see firsthand the impact of our work.

This is a city filled to the brim with organizations and communities who are bought in on building vibrancy.

Aside from your job, what do you love to do in Cincy?

The best thing about Cincinnati is no matter where you are, you’re surrounded by distinct neighborhood business districts with their own flavors and attractions. Whether it’s Westwood or Northside or Bond Hill, you’ll find beautiful public spaces, great restaurants and good neighbors. In Clifton, there’s Kiki on Ludlow, an izakaya and sushi bar that is flatout amazing and down the street from our home.

What do you recommend visitors do if it’s their first time visiting the Queen City? Make sure you

get outside and explore a little. Even in the winter, options like the Elm Street Plaza ice rink and Winterhaus at Fountain Square are great attractions to our urban core. I can drop you in the middle of our downtown and you’ll be a 10-minute walk from world-class parks, world-class restaurants, three professional sports stadiums and the nation’s largest collection of Italianate architecture in Over-the-Rhine.

OTR is Cincinnati’s creative heartbeat with historic blocks of bustling breweries and boutiques, expressive murals and a constant soundtrack. Brick alleys, restored Italianate facades and a booming arts scene make strolling simple, whether you’re grabbing a rooftop drink, exploring indie shops or catching a show.

OTR’s European-style Findlay Market is the state’s oldest public market, with global eats and local makers. On weekends, the market hums with free live music, buskers and seasonal events. Pull up a seat at the biergarten.

Vine and Main streets buzz with craft breweries, chef-driven restaurants, cocktail bars and stylish retail. Music lovers can hop between MOTR Pub, Woodward Theater and local pop-ups, while Washington and Ziegler parks both offer concerts, festivals and markets in the center of it all.

Sharonville Sharonville mixes small-town charm with big-attraction fun for a Cincy neighborhood destination that is abuzz with festivals, expos and signature events at the Sharonville Convention Center and beyond.

Don’t miss the Root Beer Stand, a beloved 1950s drive-in where house-made root beer floats and nostalgia still rule.

Taste global flavors along Chester Road with family-run spots like New Krishna Indian Cuisine and Da-Han Mongolian BBQ. Dig the outdoors? Unearth prehistoric finds at Trammel Fossil Park (LEFT INSET) or spend the day hiking, boating and exploring pioneer life at Sharon Woods’ Heritage Village Museum with its 13 historic buildings, from a schoolhouse to train station, and costumed interpreters.

Peruse Sharonville boutiques for handmades, decor and retro finds. Check in at one of the area’s hotels with easy access to Interstate 75, which makes it a convenient home base for exploring all of the Cincy Region.

Newport Aquarium

Newport Newport is Northern Kentucky’s riverfront playground — walkable, historic and full of energy.

Newport on the Levee anchors the waterfront with bars, restaurants, shops and skyline views, while nearby Monmouth Street adds retro storefronts, family-run eateries, cozy pubs and indie boutiques for a lively, day-to-night neighborhood experience.

The Newport Aquarium is home to penguins, sharks, touch-tank encounters, a walk-over-the-sharks rope bridge, a brand new jellyfish exhibit and a 360-degree tunnel that puts sea life inches away.

Historic East Row offers Victorian charm perfect for strolling tours or weekend wandering. Music lovers flock to MegaCorp Pavilion, while the Purple People Bridge connects directly to downtown Cincinnati via foot or pedal.

Union

Turfway Park Racing & Gaming

Rolling hills, scenic drives and an evolving culinary scene are on tap in Northern Kentucky’s fast-growing Union community, which offers vibrant attractions in a slow-down setting.

Explore Union’s farm-to-table restaurants built around local growers, neighborhood coffee shops and Braxton Brewing Co. Union taproom with a variety of beers on tap.

Ready to get out? Escape the noise without sacrificing amenities at one of its parks, or take a relaxed, rural drive along a pocket of NKY with winding back roads and horse farms. Tee up at one of Union’s golf courses and explore its many hiking trails.

You’re also close to Florence’s retail scene, the airport and Interstate 75, leading to spots such as Boone County Distilling Co. and Turfway Park Racing & Gaming. West of Union is Rabbit Hash and its famed Rabbit Hash General Store (RIGHT INSET).

Montgomery Come for the ribs and discover the layers of character in Montgomery, which blends history and modern conveniences.

A vintage downtown district and walkable main street is anchored by the Montgomery Inn restaurant and lined with boutiques and galleries. The spot’s signature sauce is for sale in grocers across the country, but it started here. Meanwhile, foodies can eat their way through the district’s global dining scene, pop into artisan bakeries and settle into relaxed brewpubs such as MPH Brewing.

Families appreciate the parks system for its multipurpose paths, modern playgrounds, open green space and year-round community events. The iconic Swaim Park is a seasonal hub for movie nights and concerts.

Hyde Park/Oakley Hyde Park and Oakley combine to make up one of Cincy’s liveliest districts for dining, drinks and small-batch shopping.

Here, you’ll find a mashup of tree-lined streets, communitydriven squares, trendy shops and some of Cincinnati’s prime places to dine.

Hyde Park Square anchors the area with boutiques, patios, cafes and a central island perfect for strolling. Oakley Square is loaded with craft breweries, cocktail bars, indie shops and a buzzing food scene. Montgomery’s tree-lined streets, brick-paved sidewalks and preserved architecture offer an Americana feel that’s equally diversified with an eclectic variety of businesses to explore.

Plus, with quick access to Interstates 275 and 71, Montgomery balances a small-town feel with big-city convenience.

Conceived in 2021 and holding its grand opening in 2023, the Cincinnati Black Music Walk of Fame celebrates the ongoing legacy and profound impact of Black musicians, songwriters and producers from Cincinnati, Hamilton County and Southwest Ohio. It was founded by Hamilton County Commissioner Alicia Reece, who grew up in the music industry and wanted a way to honor the region’s significant musical artists.

A free, year-round experience, the Walk of Fame invites visitors to stroll and immerse themselves through augmented reality experiences, LED screens and kiosks with QR codes so they can learn more about each artist and have fun dancing or performing along with famous artists.

Mix a beat with Hi-Tek, play the drums with Bootsy Collins or dance with Penny Ford.

Each night, an award-winning light show dazzles visitors.

It’s been such a hit that organizations such as the American Society of Landscape Architects, Associated Builders and Contractors of Ohio Valley and more have given it design awards.

Each summer, the Walk of Fame hosts a free induction ceremony for new members.

Its founding class included Bootsy Collins, the Isley Brothers, Dr. Charles Fold and Otis Williams and the Charms, and subsequent nominees have included Penny Ford, Hi-Tek, James Brown, The Deele, The Ohio Players, Louise Shropshire, Nancy Wilson and more.

THE FOUNDER Alicia Reece made history as the first woman and African American to win city, state and county races in Hamilton County.

In 2021, she founded the Cincinnati Black Music Walk of Fame as a way to celebrate the city’s role in Black music.

What’s been the most rewarding part of creating the Cincinnati Black Music Walk of Fame?

Telling the untold stories of Black artists and musicians who have impacted the world through our state-of-the-art technology experience. We have won several local, state and national awards and have been rated by Blavity Magazine as one of the top monuments and music museums in the country, named alongside Paisley Park and Detroit’s Motown.

We have also welcomed over 300,000 visitors and remain the only outdoor interactive park that combines African American music, technology and education on the Ohio River.

What do you love to do in Cincy? I love to roller

skate, attend plays at the Aronoff Center and Music Hall, dine at Jeff Ruby’s and Montgomery Inn Boathouse, and enjoy food at Brunch De Lux in Bond Hill.

What do you recommend visitors do if it’s their first time visiting Cincinnati? I would recommend they

visit the Cincinnati Black Music Walk of Fame and explore the city’s many art and cultural museums.

The fully renovated and reimagined downtown Cincinnati convention center spans 750,000 gross square feet, including 200,000 contiguous exhibit square feet and a 40,000-square-foot ballroom.

An all-glass entrance shines with more natural light, and convention and meeting attendees will be able to take in wider concourses, modernized meeting rooms and energy-efficient systems.

Outdoor & Rooftop Spaces The brand new 2.5-acre Elm Street Plaza provides a flexible event space and park right outside the convention center. Attendees can enjoy a pedestrian connection to the exhibit hall, which will feature unique, large-scale outdoor activations, civic events and adventurous meeting breakout sessions. It’s also ideal for welcoming receptions, live music and more.

Beyond the exhibit hall, the new center features an expansive third-level rooftop terrace, offering can’t-miss views of the downtown skyline.

The New Marriott Headquarters Hotel The new 700-room Marriott Headquarters Hotel is a $536 million property opening in 2028. It will feature more than 62,000 square feet of flexible meeting space. For Inspiration Seekers Celebrate the extraordinary legacy of Cincinnati’s Black musicians, songwriters and music industry professionals at the Cincinnati Black Music Walk of Fame. This interactive musical experience lines the sidewalk outside The Andrew J. Brady Music Center and is a prominent reminder of the extraordinary legacy of funk, jazz, pop, gospel, hip-hop, R&B and rock in Southwest Ohio. Along with the “stars” at your feet, scan QR codes at the kiosks to take a deeper dive into an artist’s history and legacy and share a video of yourself dancing to famous songs at the interactive exhibits.

LOCALS-IN-THE-KNOW TIP: New artists are inducted every

Go bananas for a laugh! Go Bananas Comedy Club has been a staple of the Cincy comedy scene for more than 30 years. This intimate, locally owned club has hosted many of stand-up’s biggest stars, including Jim Gaffigan and Dave Chappelle. In addition to headliners, visit Go Bananas for its film festivals, experimental comedy shows and the Funniest Person in Cincinnati contest. The club offers table service with a full menu (think burgers, shareables and cocktails) to dine while you laugh.

With frequent themed events, holiday shows and occasional improv or podcast recordings, it’s a high-energy venue that brings big-name comedy to Greater Cincinnati.

Tucked away in Dayton, Kentucky, is the region’s newest — and Northern Kentucky’s only — comedy club, Commonwealth Comedy Club.

This unique spot, located in an old church, hosts stand-up, improv, sketch and alt comedy every weekend. They’ve hosted national acts such as Rory Scovel, Punkie Johnson, Amber Autry and Todd Barry, as well as a weekly rotation of your favorite Cincy stand-ups. Have a laugh over craft cocktails, appetizers, candy and cold beer.

Bombs Away! Comedy features fresh comedic voices at The Comet, a beloved Northside dive.

This cozy space is an up-close-and-personal experience that has produced hundreds of shows for more than a decade, including a Locals Only Showcase for Cincinnati’s favorite comedians.

What first brought you to Cincinnati? The Cincinnati

Fringe Festival. I was really struck by how supportive the community was and just fell in love with Over-the-Rhine.

Why did you decide to make Cincinnati home?

I wanted an actual home base. I tried L.A., New York and Atlanta. Cincinnati had the arts, the food scene and a sense of calm I couldn’t find elsewhere. It felt like home.

How did your art gallery Shamala Hamala fit into that decision? The arts community here embraced

me first, and it made me want to return the favor.

That’s why I opened Shamala Hamala, an art gallery with a community-focused performance space, workshops and lectures.

What do you always recommend to visitors?

Eat in Over-the-Rhine. Nolia is at the top of my list, then walk to the riverfront.

Since it first debuted in 2017, BLINK, returning Oct. 8-11, 2026, has become the country’s largest and foremost interactive light and projection festivals.

Spanning multiple nights and reaching from the top of Over-the-Rhine across the Ohio River into downtown Covington, BLINK features hundreds of large-scale light installations covering streets, building walls and every imaginable surface, transforming the entire city core into a stunning, immersive work of art. Guests can stroll more than 30 city blocks to experience projection mapping, interactive light sculptures and world-class street art. Throughout the week, the light installations are complemented by community activities, activations from local businesses and live performances at indoor and outdoor venues.

While BLINK officially takes place during the evening Thursday through Sunday, many retail businesses, local cultural institutions, restaurants and bars along the festival footprint plan their own promotions and activities during daylight hours. So, in addition to experiencing all the illuminated fun at night, guests can arrive early to visit must-see museums, restaurants, parks and other Cincinnati stops.

Each day is a little different, but the Thursday night of the festival features an official countdown to illumination, local dance groups, music, a drone show and so much more. Throughout the weekend, local, regional and international artists create light installations and projection mapping that will astound the viewer.

Historic buildings are shown in a new light — literally — that combines modern design with classic architecture. The weekend will also see the debut of several new permanent murals to the region.

Shirley Murdock’s 1986 debut album Shirley Murdock! peaked at No. 9 on Billboard’s U.S. R&B chart and was certified gold, featuring single “As We Lay.” In 2024, Murdock was inducted into the Cincinnati Black Music Walk of Fame.

What do you love about singing and performing for people? I love having

the opportunity to share my God-given gift with so many people, knowing that it has the power to not only entertain, but bring some joy, happiness and even inspiration into their lives. The connection and synergy between me and the audience, large or small, is something very special, and I am truly blessed.

What was it like to be inducted into the Cincinnati Black Music Walk of Fame?

It was the absolute honor of a lifetime. I mean, to go from being a young kid growing up, listening to the music of these iconic artists, with roots in this amazing city, like James Brown, the O’Jays, Bootsy, Midnight Star, the Deele, the Ohio Players, but especially to stand next to my mentor, the late, great Roger Troutman and Zapp — to one day be counted amongst them, is mind-blowing, exciting and humbling.

What are some of your favorite spots in Cincy? Cincy is loaded with a variety of great spots to eat or just have fun! One of my favs is Brunch De Lux. It’s located in Cincy’s Bond Hill neighborhood that offers nice atmosphere and excellent brunch choices that will totally satisfy your taste buds.

If you’re looking for food that won’t disappoint, a nice place to hang out with friends, live music or DJs on the weekends — this is the place!

Chef David Jackman WILDWEED Over the past several years, David and Lydia Jackman have grown Wildweed from a pasta-focused pop-up to a James Beard Award-nominated eatery in Over-the-Rhine.

The duo developed the concept through hundreds of events before opening their own space in 2024, leading Bon Appetit magazine to name it one of the 20 best new restaurants in the U.S. in 2025.

James Beard Award finalist David Jackman describes Wildweed as “fun dining.” “A little loud, and you can wear whatever you want,” he says. “But we’re a new American restaurant with a heavy emphasis on wild, foraged crafted foods and handmade pastas. Careful and decadent food.”

Wildweed’s focused menu features a selection of small plates like oysters and beef tartare, a rotating roster of pastas, and a couple of larger steak and seafood entrees. If it’s your first time visiting, Jackman suggests the tortelli. “It was called the ‘poster boy’ pasta for the new wave of American pasta,” he says.

Aside from his own place, Jackman has a quick list of favorites in Cincinnati, from Roji for sushi to Al-Madina Grill for Mediterranean, as well as Duck Beijing House, Sacred Beast Diner and Trophy Pizza.

NOLIA KITCHEN James Beard Award finalist Jeffery Harris has built a name on internationally inspired Southern cuisine at his Over-the-Rhine eatery Nolia Kitchen.

“I’m from New Orleans, but it’s not a New Orleans restaurant,” he says.

“We do global Southern cuisine, and we cover all cultures or ethnicities from the South — Spanish, African, Caribbean, Haitian, Italian.” On top of great food, Harris offers warm hospitality. “There aren’t too many restaurants where the chef greets you at the door, makes you feel at home,” he adds.

If it’s your first time in, Harris has clear recommendations.

“When we opened the restaurant, I wanted to have a good cornbread and good hot sauce. We did both,” he says. “Our cornbread sells itself. We had to start selling our hot sauce because people were stealing it.”

Where does Harris like to eat when he’s not at his own restaurant? “There’s Wildweed, there’s Mid-City,” he says.

“My favorite spot for Mexican food is Veracruz Mexican Grill (BOTTOM) in Price Hill. It’s phenomenal. It’s hard for me to go in and order anything else other than the enchiladas.”

More than a century ago, Greek and Macedonian immigrants settled in the Cincinnati region. Among them were the Kiradjieff brothers, who in 1922 modified a sauce from home with ground meat and spices to create Cincinnati-style chili at Empress Chili parlor. Since then, dozens of eateries have crafted their own versions, from long-time institutions such as Price Hill Chili and Camp Washington Chili, to favorites such as Gold Star Chili and Skyline Chili. Dave Daoud, one of the founding brothers of Gold Star Chili, tinkered with its recipe until landing on a unique blend of 13 spices. “That secret family recipe — a bold, flavorful blend celebrated for its depth and warmth — remains at the heart of Gold Star’s menu,” says Jamie Pollard, Senior Director of Marketing for Gold Star Chili.

Pronounced get-uh, this tasty mix of ground meat (typically sausage, ground pork and ground beef) and steel-cut oats flavored with bay leaves, rosemary, salt, pepper and thyme, is unique to the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area. It’s a local favorite, with millions of pounds consumed each year.

Johnny Johnson (ABOVE), who immigrated to Cincinnati from Greece in 1951 to join his uncle’s Camp Washington Chili and later became the longtime owner and a local chili legend, passed away in October 2025.

SPAGHETTI In its original form, Cincinnati chili was born as “chili spaghetti,” with a heaping pile of spaghetti topped with chili. The spaghetti should be freshly cooked — some places steam it before serving — and piled high on the plate. Properly done, it should be al dente, so it can bear the weight of all that chili and cheese and can be twirled on a fork.

CHILI Chili is what makes or breaks the dish!

A hearty Cincinnati chili — more like a coney sauce than a chunky stew — features a complex mix of flavors with at least a touch of spice. Every chili parlor has its own recipe, but each one typically features ground beef and a mix of 13-18 spices, including chili powder, paprika, ginger, cardamom, cinnamon and nutmeg.

CHEESE A proper Three-Way should be piled high with cheese, practically covering the chili spaghetti from edge to edge. As far as Cincinnati chili goes, cheddar cheese is the preferred topping, especially when freshly shredded into enticingly long shreds. Some chili parlors will offer alternative cheeses, such as Gold Star’s habanero ghost pepper and cheddar cheese for spice seekers.

BEANS The addition of beans or onions pushes your chili into Four-Way territory.

Although a few recipes will substitute pinto beans, a vast majority of chili parlors use red kidney beans, lightly seasoned and cooked soft so their texture blends nicely with the cheese and chili.

The final step to complete your Five-Way is onions! Most chili parlors will use diced, raw white onions, sprinkled generously over the top of your chili along with the beans. The onions let you claim you’re eating your veggies, too, all while adding a touch of crispness to an otherwise soft and savory meal.

Sometimes the best way to experience Cincinnati’s arts scene is to roll up your sleeves and join in. The Baker Hunt Art and Cultural Center offers classes in practically every medium — drawing, ceramics, jewelry and more — all in a historic campus. The Clifton Cultural Arts Center brings the community together with workshops and programs for every age and skill level, while AR Workshop specializes in trendy, DIY-ready home decor projects.

At McHarper Manor, families and beginners love the playful atmosphere and approachable classes. If plants are your medium, Fern teaches botanicalfocused workshops perfect for crafting natural-inspired art. For supplies, Indigo Hippo is a creative reuse treasure trove. Neusole Glassworks offers glassblowing classes that center around different holidays and seasons.

The Contemporary Arts Center’s Creativity Center gives visitors a place to experiment freely, while Artmarkit fosters an arts-friendly marketplace.

And the Creative House of Art and Design rounds it out with immersive sessions that encourage everyone to get messy and enjoy the process.

The Carnegie is a really unique architectural space.

We have a large downstairs gallery that opens up to the second floor under a large stained-glass rotunda. There are five additional galleries upstairs that span around the rotunda, both physically and conceptually connecting the top and bottom floors.

It used to be a historic library and the remnants of that are still visible.

What does your day-to-day look like? My days consist

of planning for future exhibitions and programs. I also do a lot of studio visits with artists — my favorite part of the job. I think it would surprise people how far in advance we plan. I’m currently working on our 2027–2028 exhibition season.

What should visitors know about Cincinnati’s arts scene? The Cincinnati art scene is intimate and

very collaborative. You may find yourself in an experimental sound performance in an empty warehouse or see video projections by the river. #VISITCINCY 51

After winning two World Series titles with the Boston Red Sox and more than a decade-long stint with the Cleveland Guardians, Terry Francona became the manager of the Cincinnati Reds in 2025, returning to the team he played for in 1987.

What do you love most about your job? I get a big kick out of

showing up, trying to figure out how we’re going to be good, with people I respect and care about. You know what else I love? The Midwest. I spent 11 years in Cleveland, and I grew up in western Pennsylvania, so I’m used to the culture and the climate, and I really like it. I think the people are down to earth.

Has anything changed about the city that’s surprised you?

A lot has changed! When I was a player, I lived out in the MasonLoveland area because that’s all I could afford — now I don’t think I could afford to live out there, it’s gotten so nice! I have a little place in Newport that I can stumble out of bed and come down the hill and cross the bridge, and I’m there. And I love it!

Any tips for first-time visitors to Great American Ball Park?

The food’s different from when I was young; they’ve got everything now. You know, it’s a fun place to watch a game.

The atmosphere is really good. We have really likeable kids on our team, which is meaningful.

No. 1, is being able to put smiles on the faces of the people who gave so much to me. This city helped build who I am. I get to be a role model for the kids in Cincinnati. Being a Cincinnati kid, I get the opportunity to say, “Look at me and believe, dream big, go for what you want in life.”

What do you love to do in Cincinnati? For bar food or beer, I like MadTree.

I’m a big coffee fan, so we go to Deeper Roots and Mom ’n ’em. Forager in Milford is right by the training ground; the owner gets beans from around the world. We also love BLINK, the Loveland bike trail and Findlay Market. And Jungle Jim’s — all the guys from my team who are international feel so at home there.

What do you recommend visitors do if it’s their first time visiting Cincinnati?

Go to breakfast at Sleepy Bee or Maplewood Kitchen. Get your coffee at Urbana Cafe at Findlay Market. My daughter has celiac’s disease, so we go get Cherbourg Cypress. When it’s time for lunch, we’re going to Skyline. If it’s your first time, get the dip, then a cheese coney or a Three-Way. Next we’re going to the zoo to see Fiona. Coming back south, we’ll visit Collective Espresso — they’re sneaky good.

Then you’re going to an FC Cincinnati match, Abigail Street for dinner and for dessert Graeter’s black raspberry chip. Get a drink at Ghost Baby and then hit Tokyo Kitty for karaoke. That’s a perfect Cincinnati day!

SPRING After an Ohio winter, nothing beats getting outside on the first warm days of spring. Cincinnati offers many opportunities for nature lovers. Krohn Conservatory, located within Eden Park, provides a chance to explore flora from around the world.

On warm spring days, visit the conservatory and then have a picnic near the park’s Mirror Lake.

Spring also ushers in the hiking and biking season, and Greater Cincinnati offers plenty of options.

Try Cincinnati Nature Center, which features 20 miles of trails, offering easy, moderate and challenging hikes across its 1,800 acres.

Want to get a little muddy zipping down a dirt trail on a mountain bike? Check out Cincitucky Trails’ extensive lists of mixed-use trails, perfect for hiking or biking. Find a detailed list of trails, ranging from a half-mile to 26 miles, on the website, with links to breweries, restaurants and cultural sites.

For those eager to give back, Cincinnati Off-Road Alliance (CORA) and Tri-State Trails are organizations dedicated to building and maintaining trails. Both focus on multi-use trails — CORA mainly works with bike trails and offers chances to get dirty by building and maintaining them, while Tri-State Trails combines advocacy and policy efforts with trail construction.

Look for volunteer opportunities with either organization.

The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden consistently rates among the top in the nation. (It was recently ranked Best Zoo in the Country by USA Today.) The zoo’s internetfamous hippos, including Fiona, plus new baby gorilla Mboka Jo, certainly make it must-see. The best part?

There’s something to do year-round!

SPRING AT THE ZOO The zoo is one of the best places to observe spring’s return.

Hippos, lions and elephants become more active, and Zoo Blooms features daffodils, tree blossoms and more than 100,000 tulips in every color. Be sure to check out this year’s class of Zoo Babies newborns.

THE TRAILBLAZER As executive director of the Cincinnati Off-Road Alliance (CORA), Jason Reser helps expand access to natural-surface trails across the region, connecting people to landscapes, neighborhoods and each other.

How did you get started in trail advocacy? I grew up here in the area; I knew about a lot of cool spaces as a kid.

Trails were a way of enjoying time with my friends and my brother, and that grew into mountain bike racing and finding out how supportive that community is.

What does CORA’s work focus on today? A lot of

what I do today is demystifying how to build trails for communities — advocating for sustainable, multi-use natural-surface trails that are designed to last generations.

How have trails changed in the region? We’ve gone from essentially no access to over 120 miles of multi-use natural-surface trails. About 90% were built by volunteers. People are looking for more accessible trail experiences.

How should visitors experience Cincinnati by trail?

If you want that great visitor experience, start downtown or in Covington, cross the Purple People Bridge, hit Riverfront Commons, go up to Devou Park, work up an appetite and end at one of our local breweries. #VISITCINCY 57

SUMMER The Ohio River is vital to greater Cincinnati and a summer hub. Enjoy scenic cruises with BB Riverboats, known for their historic white-and-red stacks. Dine aboard or just cruise the river. For those who enjoy smaller watercraft, the annual Ohio River Paddlefest sees hundreds of kayakers racing along either a 9- or 15.5-mile course, temporarily closing the river to motorized traffic. Shore activities are available at Smale Park, Sawyer Point Park & Yeatman’s Cove, which host live music, playgrounds, outdoor sports and the Serpentine Wall for viewing river traffic. Schack’s Yaks rents kayaks via app-enabled kiosks.

Trail season continues in Cincinnati summers. The Loveland Bike Trail, part of the Little Miami Scenic Trail, provides easy access to dining, shopping and pubs. East Fork State Park offers biking, hiking, a 33-mile backpacking trail, camping, boating, fishing and a beach. South of the city, Northern Kentucky’s England-Idlewild Park features bike trails and a bike park, fishing ponds, a picnic area and a pro-level disc golf course, home of the LWS Open.

SUMMER AT THE ZOO The zoo flourishes each summer. See the manatees in Manatee Springs, and view Asian small-clawed otter pups, rhinoceros hornbills and siamangs in the new Elephant Trek feature. Cheetah Encounters, Wings of Wonder and Barnyard Bonanza are also open in summer — and don’t miss a chance to feed giraffes.

FALL Cincy locals know you don’t need to travel far to see stunning fall colors. Mt. Airy Forest, Cincinnati’s largest park, offers amenities including a wheelchair-accessible tree house, an enclosed dog park and an arboretum with gazebos and gardens for weddings. Spring Grove Cemetery & Arboretum also features lush forestry with vibrant colors, where visitors can walk among memorials of Cincinnati’s well-known families.

East of the city, Ault Park provides a perfect fall picnic spot. Explore the pavilion overlooking its expansive Great Lawn and walkable gardens. Similarly, the Overlook Pergola at Alms Park offers breathtaking views of both sides of the Ohio River.

For a view from the Kentucky side, visit Devou Park’s overlook, then explore the trails or the NaturePlay@BMC exploration area for kids. The nearby Behringer-Crawford Museum completes a day of family fun.

Kings Island Winterfest

Fall weather is ideal for camping. Reserve a spot at Big Bone Lick State Park, where you can watch migrating birds, explore 20,000-year-old fossils or visit the bison herd. Finally, to learn more about local trees, visit Boone County Arboretum, which features 28 educational areas focused on regional flora.

FALL AT THE ZOO Come autumn, the zoo lights up with the Jack’O Lantern Glow. More than 6,000 carved pumpkins line the (slightly) spooky half-mile trail. Visit snakes and lizards at the Reptile House or learn more about creatures that stalk the night in the Night Hunters exhibit. Return for HallZOOween, with treat stations, magic shows and animal enrichments throughout the day.

WINTER Cincy knows how to make the best of a chilly situation.

Bundle up and head to Perfect North Slopes in Indiana for 23 trails fit for skiers and snowboarders, ranging from beginner green runs to expert-level double-black diamond trails. Don’t know how to ski or snowboard yet? No worries — Perfect North provides self-guided, group and private lessons. The park also features snow tubing, either as a standalone activity or as an add-on.

If ice skating is more your style, head to Elm Street Plaza’s ice rink, located downtown. The rink, a local tradition, moved from Fountain Square to the new plaza two blocks west in 2025. Lace up and hit the ice or relax in one of the heated igloos or pergolas available for rent.

Winterfest at Kings Island also offers opportunities to skate and enjoy seasonal music. While most coasters are closed for the season, many kiddie and carnivalstyle rides remain open during the event. Cincinnati Nature Center’s Light in the Forest illuminated walking tour celebrates wintertime.

Finally, end the year the way you started it at Krohn Conservatory’s winter show. Enjoy model trains, candles and lanterns lighting up the darkest part of the year and helping Cincinnatians gear up for spring’s return.

WINTER AT THE ZOO The PNC Festival of Lights brightens the darkest season. Find hidden Animal Lanterns, watch the Swan Lake light show or ride the North Polar Express. Ring in the New Year with Happy Zoo Year, a familyfriendly celebration (including an early, familyfriendly 8 p.m. countdown!). Watch penguins, polar bears and otters play in the winter cold.

Visit the birthplace of William Howard Taft, the only person in history to serve as both U.S. President and Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. Guided tours of the Greek Revival house where he was born and several exhibits help shed light on a life dedicated to civic duty, education and hard work. Fun fact: The Taft Museum of Art in downtown Cincy was once the home of Charles Phelps Taft, half-brother to William Howard Taft.

This impressive ancient earthwork was built on a hilltop by indigenous people of the Hopewell tradition almost 2,000 years ago. An on-site museum, three miles of hiking trails with scenic overlooks and more will transport you back in time at the largest hilltop enclosure in North America.

The site is part of a larger UNESCO World Heritage site, one of 26 in the U.S., dedicated to the Hopewell people.

ULYSSES S. GRANT NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE

AMERICAN SIGN MUSEUM

This White Haven site offers guided tours of the 18th U.S. President’s home, and the park museum’s six permanent exhibits are housed in an 1872-built horse stable designed by Grant, who also led the Union Army to victory in the Civil War. A 22-minute film will provide insights into his military service and more.

The site is also dedicated to exploring contemporary issues such as human trafficking and social justice.

HARRIET BEECHER STOWE HOUSE Tour the house where Harriet Beecher Stowe lived with her family, who was active in the antislavery movement. And her Cincinnati experiences fueled her famous novel, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, which galvanized the abolitionist cause and helped spark the national conversation about equality and more.

NEWPORT GANGSTER TOUR Across the river in Newport, Kentucky, you can dig into the region’s notorious past.

The Gangster Tour explores the city’s time as a hub for organized crime, bootlegging and illegal casinos. Learn more about how gangsters such as Moe Dalitz and George Remus led a life of crime.

Union Terminal

Here’s your sign to explore more than 100 years of signage at this Camp Washington museum. Paying homage to the artistry and craftsmanship behind signs, discover neon, wooden and metal signs among the 4,000-piece collection. Rotating special exhibits spotlight the process of making signs, their cultural impact and the ways they’ve been improved over time.

UNION TERMINAL Cincinnati’s Union Terminal got its Hollywood closeup in 2025’s Superman movie. The exterior and interior were used as filming locations for the superhero headquarters the Hall of Justice, but the 1933-built art deco stunner has been a historical fixture in Cincy for decades. It first served as a great American train station, welcoming World War II soldiers home, and today houses the Cincinnati History Museum, the Children’s Museum and the Museum of Natural History & Science.

BIG BONE LICK STATE HISTORIC SITE Early on in their expedition west, Meriwether Lewis (of Lewis & Clark fame) visited Big Bone Lick in 1803 and sent fossil specimens back east to President Thomas Jefferson. After the expedition, William Clark returned to the area for the first vertebra paleontological dig in the United States. Today, you can visit the park’s visitor center, which is part of the National Park Service’s Lewis & Clark National Historic Trail, to view fossils of prehistoric animals that lived at the site, hike and more.
