canton, nc

Camp Hope is a historic camp based near Canton, NC that is very significant to those who grew up in the area. In order to rejuvenate the camp and bring it back to its former glory, we decided to implement new branding and bring a contemporary upfit to attract new interest while carefully preserving its rich history and culture. Preserve. Simplify. Expand.

The pavilion space was designed to serve as a teaching tool for Appalachian architecture and structure, as well as flexible event space. It incorporates a wood louver screen to give the user a feeling of being inside and outside simultaneously.

miCROPolis fall 2015 | graydon blakeslee, kaitlyn kistler

clemson, sc

miCROPolis was designed to be a micro-city within downtown Clemson. The design arose from the city’s dire need for fresh food and groceries within walking distance of the university campus. During the day it would function as urban bazaar, while at night it would transform into a alternative nightlife destination with live performances and microstores.

The Ethio-American Doctors Group Hospital was a service learning project given by a real client. For this design, spaces were pushed and pulled to allow natural light to penetrate the deeper floor depths and allow for pockets of privacy for hospital patients. The patient room was designed to be surrounded by natural light and provide ease of vision between patient and nurse.

balsamarea fall 2014 | graydon blakeslee, brandon richard

miami, fl

Balsamarea was an experiential museum and monument dedicated to Cuban refugees that did not survive the journey from Cuba to Miami. Depending on the time of day, the tide would rise through the limestone base and give the user the ability to wade with the actual rafts the refugees used. The limestone base was surrounded by a floating memorial wall with inscribed names of those lost at sea, which would rise and fall with the tide...

N

...as the tide would rise higher and higher over the years, the structure would make way for a new one to be placed on top, while the old would become a natural limestone reef for wildlife below.
