(if the 'graphicxtras' folder does not exist, simply create it in the plug-ins folder or use another folder name if you wish. You can also just place the file in the top level plug-ins folder if you wish but putting it in a sub folder makes it easier to find at a later date)
Alternate plug-in installation location Because of recent improvements in security, you may wish to install the plug-in sets in an alternate location such as an user account and not the default plug-in folder. If you are using a basic level account and one without admin features, you might not be able to save the AIP plug-in files to the usual folder. Set up an alternate or secondary plug-in folder in your user account and then copy the files there.
To specify an alternate plug-in for Illustrator 速 1) Go to the edit > preferences > plug-ins 2) Check the additional plug-ins folder option 3) Specify / browse for your required file in your user account (such as 'third party plug-ins' etc)
Initial use of plug-ins Please access the plugins via the filters menu of Illustrator 速 via the <AVP Paths> menu + <AVP Create> Menu (CS3 CS2 CS 10) Please access the plug-ins via the object > filters menu (CS4) The gridlock plugins requires a path to be selected to define the size of the grid. The lineup and spiralcity and sharpedge require no paths and purely create paths, though you may wish to set the initial fill and stroke etc for the paths The randomcolors and negativecolors plugin requires a path or paths to work.
Presets The plugins all comes with a selection of PRESETS, select one of these to change the settings to a pre-defined set of values (though the actual result might vary depending on the current fill etc or the level of randomization in the preset)
Shuffle button SHUFFLE button randomizes the value used based on the current setting (if randomization has been set such as random curve or distance), not all fields have randomization and so will be ignored by the shuffle button
Tumble button Click the TUMBLE button to randomization many of the settings to their extreme (though not all and not all to their extreme as duplications etc can be processor intensive and 100s of duplications can cause serious response slowdown). Hopefully most of the settings will be reasonable and the tumble button is a great way to experiment.
View control VIEW field changes the navigator zoom level within the plugin, this changes the bounds of the document view and this is used in some of the plugins (such as abstract)
Plug-ins notes DRAG buttons are connected with some of the key fields. Click and then hold down the shift key and drop across (in most cases) or if the field is a vertical related field then drag up and down, the related field will be updated interactively (as fast as possible). As mentioned, be careful with the use of this and random fill / stroke etc as the response can be fairly rapid and intense in many cases. Release the shift key when you wish to stop the field being updated.
Applications support MAC OS X 10.2 10.3 10.4 10.5 / 98 ME NT XP Vista Adobe 速 Illustrator 速10 CS 1 CS2 CS3 CS4

Gridlock Plug-in *** NOTE: Please be very careful with some of the functionality if you suffer from light sensitive problems / issues as using certainly functionality and rapidly changing settings and random fill colors or path strokes, can create an intense set of color changes. This might be same for many different path combinations. This is mainly connected with the interactive drag buttons. Basically, be careful of rapid changes of settings! A grid plug-in. To use, please select a path to 'define' the height and width of the grid. Creates a variety of grids / table paths. On completion, please use the pathfinder commands to combine etc or just use the group command
Grid Dialog 'Up across' options: By default, the grid settings are set the same in both directions. By clicking the link to OFF, you can modify the across or up / down settings.
'Type' options: By default, the grid is created using rectangular boxes but the grid can also be made of lines, ovals, or guidelines.
'Number of lines': The number of lines to create for the grid in the current set direction.
'Line thickness': The thickness of the grid lines
'Alternate line thickness': An additional amount added to alternate lines in the grid.
'Skip': & Create By default, the grid is created without skipping lines. The apply pattern skips and creates lines, creating many variant grids. The grid can be 2 lines followed by a larger gap (skipped lines) followed by 2 more lines and so on. Does depend on the number of lines in the grid in the first place.
Modify dialog 'Shift': The lines are shifted from their default position (generally without breaking the bounds of the grid).
'Skew': A variant scaling option for the grid.
'Curve': Basic curvature added to the grid, varies from grid type
Fill dialog 'Fill': Instead of using the current fill (if there is a fill), the lines can be modified (left to right) (upwards) to a new color setting depending on the fill option and the fill channels set. If the lines are RGB, the fourth box is ignored. If the lines are grayscale, the last three fields are ignored. A variety of different color settings can be applied such as targeting the 'final' line in the grid to the dialog color (creating a gradient) or random colors. 'Stroke': As fill, but for the rectangular stroke or the line stroke. Ignored if no stroke set. 'Width': The line width or weight is modified based on the user defined setting (/10th of a point) and dropdown.
Settings dialog 'Delete definition path': By default, the defining box or path is deleted but you might wish to keep the path and use the grid as a frame or have the original defining path as a background to the grid. 'Settings [R]': Randomizes the values used for the creation of the grid, works best if the values are set to higher values such an apply pattern of 10 10. Very useful for experimentation with 100s of different grid designs. 'Jitter': Instead of just shifting the paths by a fixed amount (see a previous dialog), the shift is random.
'Shift ratio': A variant randomness applied to grid creation (uses the skew setting
Lineup plug-in Plugin to create lines as well as abstract linear designs and more
Line dialog 'Lines direction' options': Across or up and down
'Line type options': Create the lines as a rectangular box or a line or oval or guideline
'Number of lines': Number of lines to create in the requested direction
'Gap between lines': Gap between the lines in points
'Line thickness': Thickness of the lines in points
Size dialog 'Line length': Length of the lines in points 'Line angle': Angle or rotation of line in degrees 'Line scale': Line scaling, vertical and horizontal
Repeats dialog 'Repeat blocks': Creates additional sets of lines
'Max height': Maximum length / height, limits the total length (creates a compressed line set) 'Length factor': Modifies repeat length setting, the second etc line is longer or shorter than the first line
'Thickness factor': Modifies the thickness of subsequent lines, thicker or thinner
'Gap factor': Modifies the distance between lines for subsequent line blocks
'Angle factor': Modifies the angle for subsequent lines (if angle has been set)
Position dialog 'Start': Start position in document
Fill dialog 'Fill': Fill applied to the lines from left to right, bottom up. 'Stroke': Stroke applied to the lines 'Width': Width modification applied to the lines. 'Style': Modify the fill / stroke / width and interpolate between new and original style
Settings dialog 'Opacity [R]': Opacity randomly applied between 0 and 100
'Gap [R]:' Randomized gap between lines 'Thickness [R]': Randomized line thickness between 0 and current
'Angle [R]': Randomized line angle
'Repeat length [R]': Randomize the entire block length 'Length [R]': Randomize the individual length setting
Rotate/start': Randomize the rotation for each section of lines
''Alternate Angle': Alternate / flip angle of lines
'Angle 1': variant angle setting 'Angle 2': Variant angle setting
Negativecolors Plugin to invert path color and modify color in many different ways 'Color kind options': Set which mode to apply, such as fill or stroke or RGB / CMYK
'Color function options': Type of negative color effect to apply
'Color': Color settings for the individual color channels (varies depending on the current function dropdown). By default, if an RGB path and the default type / function is applied, the color channels are 255 - current value by default, changing the setting changes the 255 part of the equation. The first entry is for cyan or red or gray, the second for magenta or green, the third for yellow and blue, and the final for black. The plug-in works best when the color model (say RGB or CMYK) matches the color of the path and the negative setting (i.e. CMYK or RGB), though the plug-in should be fine with mixing document color model / path color / plug-in color.
'Negative opacity': Reverses the opacity / transparency of the paths
RandomColors plug-in Apply random colors to selected paths *** NOTE: Please be very careful with some of the functionality if you suffer from light sensitive problems / issues as using certainly functionality and rapidly changing settings and random fill colors or path strokes, can create an intense set of color changes. This might be same for many different path combinations. This is mainly connected with the interactive drag buttons. Basically, be careful of rapid changes of settings!
Colors dialog 'Channels': Color settings for the color channels. The plugin color channel 1 is cyan / red / gray; 2 for green and magenta; blue and yellow for 3; and 4 for black. It is best to use the correct document color model / path color / plug-in color setting
Plug-ins notes for randomization to work correctly. The actual setting and application of the fill / stroke channel settings depends on the dropdown below such as current fill + randomization based on settings OR total random etc.
'Random type options': Type of randomization to apply (and to fill or the path's stroke)
Variance dialog 'Interpolate': Interpolates between the original color and the new randomized color. Great for subtle variations of color
'Path factor': Factor applied to the fill based on the path creation order. This will lighten or darken the subsequent paths (sometimes tricky to work out, as the paths may have been created in a variety of ways and times) 'Range': Only apply the randomization if the original color settings are between (inclusive) these settings (the average of the cyan / magenta etc or red / green / blue)
'Color options': Variant color operations such as averaging or negative
Settings dialog 'Opacity [R]': Randomized opacity between 0 and 100 'Blend mode [R]': Blend mode randomized for each path (to difference, multiply etc) 'Style [R]': Apply random styles based on the current styles palette (this can be fairly slow depending on the styles in the palette). Perhaps you might just want sketch effects, then remove all the non-sketch styles. 'Width [R]': Randomizes the width of the path's line between 0 and original width
'Symbolize': Turns the path into a symbol (it will appear in the symbol palette) 'Apply [R]': Apply the randomization or not (randomly, of course)
SharpEdge plug-in Plugin to create a frame or sharp edged path
Size dialog 'Teeth height': Height of the teeth in points (from base). The other entries are not enabled by default (this can be changed by un checking the link setting)
'Teeth gap': Gap between the teeth in points
'Teeth slant': Slant angle for the teeth. The setting can be modified by the slant options.
'Teeth base': Addition to the teeth 'base' (from the starting point)
Teeth dialog 'Number of teeth': Number of teeth to create (per side - though when the link is set to ON, the other sides are not accessible)
Frames dialog 'Start point': Start point for the frame in the current document (this can be set to variable via the settings dialog) 'Number of edges': Number of edges to create. If the start position is not set to variable, all the frames will be created in the same location. Sketch color options': Ignored if the sketch repeats is set to 0. The sketch color options colors the stroke of the created sketch lines. The options include random colors, using the original color, opacity settings and more. 'Sketch weight': Weight added to the path's sketch stroke (this can also be randomized via the setting's dialog). Creates a more random sketchy feel, as if the pencil has been applied lightly then a little heavier etc 'Sketch shift': The sketchiness of the created stroke lines. 'Sketch repeats': The number of 'repeats' of the stroked path to create.
Plug-ins notes 'Skip / create': Instead of creating equidistant teeth, the teeth can be separated by larger or smaller gaps using the skip / create teeth setting
'Interpolate1': Interpolate points and direction points between calculated and user defined center
'Interpolate2': As above but a second interpolate center (only display if the setting is not 0) 'Teeth apply pattern options': Variant teeth apply patterns such as base / height combinations for the apply of skip / create
'Slant options': Variant slant directions for each edge such as follow the edge or reverse of the previous edge or opposing edge or randomized slant
Settings dialog 'Fill [R]': Fill the sharp edge with a random color (otherwise the color will be the same as the start color). More useful with the number of edges option set to greater than 1
'Swatch [R]': Fill the path with a swatch color (based on the swatch palette) 'Opacity [R]': Set the path opacity randomly between 0 and 100 'Link edges': Link the edge settings (by default this is on). When ON, some of the fields are not enabled and cannot be modified.
'Create on new layer': Create the new path on a new layer 'Closed path': Close the path 'Add base to height': Add the base calculation to the height
'Create [R]': Create a tooth or not. Very useful for creating very random path frames
'Structure [R]': Randomizes the structure settings (more useful if the skip and create are set to large values)
'Radial distort [R]': Distort the frame points in a radial direction (randomly)
'Edge [R]': Random edges
'Teeth [R]': Random number of teeth per side
'Warp [R]': Apply random envelopes to the sharp edge for a wide range of variant frame designs. Expand the envelope afterwards or manipulate the warp settings further
'Center anchor': Place the anchor points at the center but leave the direction points in calculated position
'Center direction': The opposite of the above, leave the anchor but shift the direction points to the center of the frame
'Start [R]': Randomized start, more useful if there are multiple frames to generate
Settings1 dialog Drop shadow: Create a shadow a certain distance from the original frame
Shadowangle[R]: Randomize the angle / direction of the shadow
Shadowopacity[R]: Randomize the opacity of the shadow ''Half Shadow': Use half of the fill color as the shadow color (if possible) 'Shadowscale': Scale the shadow Sketch shift (R)': Randomize the sketchiness (by default this is on). If not on, the stroke shapes are purely displayed without any curve / sketchiness 'Sketch weight (R)': Randomize the line weight of the sketch stroke (by default this is on) . If off, all the stroke lines are all the same weight
SpiralCity plug-in Plugin to create unusual spirals such as triangular spiral or square-ial.
Spiral dialog 'Spiral arm type options': By default, the lines are created as a single line, point to point. You can set it to create individual spiral arms (useful for colonization). There is a slight variation between the two for the same settings. 'Spiral type options': Changing this modifies how the paths are created, in reverse direction, or with a jitter / randomness etc 'Number of points / arm': Number of points per spiral arm (up to 20 - after which there isn't really much variation other than a lot of additional points - an you can always add those via the path command to add points) 'Number of spirals': Number of spiral arms. 'Spiral arm decay': The decay of the spiral arms. The spiral can rapidly decay or slowly decay or expand outwards rapidly. 'Gap options': The gap between the arms (without taking the decay etc into consideration) options to modify the gap variant point's distance alternately or accumulate 'Gap': The distance between the arms 'Gap variant': use this in combo with the gap dropdown to accumulate, randomized, or alternate gap settings
Apply dialog 'H. Start': The start position of the spiral horizontally 'V.Start': The start position of the spiral vertically 'Skip spiral arm': This will only work if in separate mode. If separate, arms are created or not, leaving gaps between the spiral arms as below. Variant settings such as 1-2 or 5-2 will create totally different spiral patterns. 'Create spiral arm': Create a spiral arm (by default, 1). No change, if skip is set to 0.
Plug-ins notes 'Initial gap from start': The initial gap from the center. 'Interpolation': Interpolates the generated point towards (or away) from the a set center, which can be the center of the document, random center, center of the view etc. Create many different designs from flower spirals to abstract spiral designs.
Star dialog 'Star gap distance': Alternate points are moved by additional distance. 'Star angle': Alternate points are shifted radial
Stroke dialog 'Stroke': Requires separate path option (as well as path stroke). The path's stroke is modified from path to path, creating colorful blends or random color effects. 'Line weight': Or width. Requires the separate path option (as well as a path stroke). Uses the original stroke width and modifies the width from path to path, either accumulating or randomized.
Settings dialog 'Opacity [R]': requires the separate path option. The path's opacity is modified randomly between 0 and 100.
