DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE KEVIN MITCHELL

Director, Grapevine Parks and Recreation kmitchell@grapevinetexas.gov Welcome to the Summer 2019 issue of the Go Grapevine Magazine. The hot months of summer will be here soon and cooling off in Grapevine shouldn’t be a problem! There are many parks to keep you outdoors and cooled off, including Altitude H2O at Meadowmere Park, Pleasant Glade Pool, Dove Waterpark & Parr and Dove spraygrounds, all opening Memorial Day weekend! Some big, exciting projects that were requested by residents are nearing completion, such as the Bessie Mitchell House renovation (indoor rental space at the Botanical Gardens), Oak Grove Softball Complex, and Bear Creek Dog Park. The much-anticipated Bear Creek Dog Park will finally make a grand opening this year and we couldn’t be more excited about it. With the unexpected setbacks on construction, we thank you for your patience and understanding on this project. Oak Grove Softball Complex will also make its debut very soon with four new fields, concession building, playground, and batting cages. Our softball teams will now have a brand new home all to themselves right here in Grapevine. Lastly for park development, construction for the installation of new pickleball courts at Dove Park will begin this summer. Adding this amenity to Grapevine’s parks system will increase the variety of offerings provided and outdoor exercise opportunities for residents. This project was identified by citizens as a desired amenity added to the parks system as part of the approved 2018 Parks & Recreation Master Plan. Speaking of resident requests, we are beyond excited to have started the process of implementing our new registration software with Amilia. This new software will ease the process of registration for you significantly! Stay tuned for the launch party in August, which will allow for all members and residents to get a hands-on walk through of the new software and get signed up for upcoming programs, events and services. Because we’re always looking for new ways to create memorable experiences through community events, we invite you to Go Grapevine Games on Saturday, April 13. This family field day at Parr Park is full of interactive recreation activities, classic field day favorites, fitness classes, camp activities, food trucks, live entertainment & more. We hope to see you there! As always, follow us on social media @GoGrapevine to stay connected to your local Parks and Recreation Department. All of us here cannot wait for another fun summer in Grapevine!

CLEAN BRUSH PICK UP

WHAT: Clean Brush & Yard Waste WHEN: 1st & 3rd Wednesday HOW: Place in reusable containers, paper bags and/or in bundles at the curb.

CLEAN BRUSH & YARD WASTE According to the EPA, in 2015, landfills received about 10.8 million tons of yard trimmings, which comprised 7.8% of all municipal solid waste. Clean brush and yard waste is highly compostable and reusable. When added to a landfill, it takes up valuable space that could be used for non-recyclable items.

Correct brush disposal preparation

Every first and third Wednesday of the month, Grapevine residents can help save space in the landfill by placing clean brush and yard waste in reusable containers, paper bags and in bundles at their curb. It will be collected and converted to mulch. PAPER BAGS

EXAMPLES OF CLEAN BRUSH & YARD WASTE:

Incorrect brush disposal preparation

Brush Piles

Large Tree Branches

Shrubs PLASTIC BAG

IMPORTANT – clean brush and yard waste placed in any kind of plastic bag or placed along the curb on any other pick up day will go to the landfill.

PARK DEVELOPMENTS

We’re always working on park improvements and developments to increase the quality of life for our citizens and provide a sense of place for you to create memories with your families. We have multiple projects in progress simultaneously and as you are aware, we had a record breaking amount of rainfall, causing delays in construction across all projects. We sincerely thank you for your patience and understanding.

OAK GROVE SOFTBALL COMPLEX

The renovation of Oak Grove Softball Complex is really beginning to take shape, with much of the site work accomplished, you can begin to see the outlines of the four fields, the location of the concession building and parking areas. The pre-existing three fields, concession and restroom building will be upgraded along with the addition of a fourth field, playground, batting cages, maintenance/storage facility, and expanded parking. Originally the Oak Grove Softball was constructed in the 1970s. The look and feel of the renovations will be similar to that of Oak Grove Ballfield Complex. Construction is scheduled to be complete late spring and our softball teams will have a new place to call home.

BEAR CREEK DOG PARK

Heading south on the HWY 360 frontage road, you can see the park is well under construction. The bridge is being installed, the restroom has been set in place, and grading for the parking lot and paddocks is in progress and lastly, the doggie splash-pad has been installed.

ON THE COVER

As most are aware, in addition to the rainfall setback, we allocated time for the Trinity River Authority’s partial installation of their 48 inch waste water line that serves the region. We are very excited for this project and can’t wait for you to be able to utilize the park with your furry friends, and family. We anticipate a grand opening of the park this summer.

Visit GoGrapevine.com/ParkDev for updates! Stay tuned on social media for all grand opening details! 50
