Today marks the culmination of hard work, sacrifice, anticipation and triumph, and we are delighted to celebrate this special occasion with you. The Class of 2020 is unique, in that you persevered through challenges and uncertainties our society has never seen before. You adapted to changing circumstances and a new ‘normal’ while still making your education a priority. And remember, your experience at Grantham has been fully online since the beginning. In these times when we’re left with no choice but to live certain parts of our lives in a virtual environment, you are ahead of the curve. The rest of the world is just now catching up.

I would like to thank you for affording each of us at Grantham the honor of serving you and being part of your success. From the moment you joined our Grantham family, it has been our privilege to walk beside you throughout your journey. And it gives us great pride to have made a difference in your lives, as you have forever made an impact on ours.

As we savor the significance of today’s celebration, think about how this achievement will prepare you for your next chapter in life. The education, abilities, connections and confidence that come with this diploma will serve as the foundation for the tremendous successes to come. Today, you are equipped. You are qualified. You are ready to change the world. How you apply this degree will define your future and the impact you have on others, so don’t hold back.

As you watch and participate in today’s virtual ceremony, remember that ours is a lifetime relationship. Go forth with pride and grit, and please keep in touch. Congratulations again, and welcome to the next class—the class we call alumni.

Wishing you all the best,

ANTHONY R. PETROY, DM
