A Great Year Companions, This will be my last article as Illustrious Grand Master. This year has been a great experience and Lady Janet and I have had a wonderful, fun and interesting time. Meeting all the companions here in California and around the western states was the highlight of this year. The Companions are the Grand York Rite and talking, listening and learning from you has been a great influence on me. Without you there is no York Rite. There are so many people to thank for this successful year, that if I try to name the many people that helped, I would leave someone out. The two people I would thank are Most Excellent Companion Rick Baskin KYGCH, Grand High Priest Royal Arch Masons California and Sir Knight Steve Alderete KYGCH Eminent Grand Commander California. These two Companions and I have served together as a true team. I could not have asked for two better men to serve with. I think we have made a positive impact on our Craft this year and I hope this trend continues to be built on in the years to come by those Companions following us. Thank you both for your help, companionship, humor and friendship. Lastly I thank my beautiful wife, Janet, for all she has done this year. She developed a manual for the ladies of the advancing officers line, which took a year to put together, and covers every circumstance in they might encounter while they advance through their years in the line and can be personalized by each lady as the years go by and then be handed down to her Masonic Daughter. She has traveled everywhere I went and has represented our Grand Council with grace and beauty. She has been my relief driver, confidant and has critiqued speeches and articles. I have been blessed to have her love and companionship for the last 38+ years. Thank you all for your friendship, thank you for allowing me to represent you as Grand Master this year and May God bless you all in the coming years. Hope to see ya’ll soon. God Bless, William E. Price KYGCH Most Illustrious Grand Master Cryptic Masons of California

Change Last year Grand Chapter changed and this year Grand Commandery overhauled their engine. Hopefully, all these changes are for the better because:   

Chapter: Council: Commandery:

Bodies 54 Bodies 35 Bodies 36

Members 4,029 Members 3,114 Members 2,966

 First conferral of the Royal Arch Degree occurred in 1817,  First conferral of the Royal Master Degree occurred in 1810, and  First Knight Templar in the United States occurred 1769. Why were these dates mentioned? Why is York Rite important to Masonry? A solution offered using a 3-legged stool metaphor, consisting of ritual, programs, and activities. Articles were written and published about ritual, about memorization of the ritual, but more importantly about knowledge of the ritual. York Rite completes the legend of one who is important in our History, we learn the activities of the day before and day after, we migrate to become a Knight Templar and learn this order is important to our history. York Rite does not complete our learning curve but only begins; we put our Honor, our Integrity into our everyday lives, to our family. Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masonry is attempting to put ritual, learning of the ritual, meaning of the ritual back into our lives, School of Instructions are held, we must be certified in our ritual and this will take time, but the plan, the basic building block is in place and soon we will see Chapters around the state opening and closing without a book in hand. Grand Commandery Knights Templar of California just submitted their building block. Soon Inspectors will be teaching, as they must be first certified, but more importantly, Commanders, Generalissimos, and Captain-Generals will know and learn the ritual. The resolutions for Grand Chapter, Grand Council, and Grand Commandery are in the back of this newsletter.
