Reflection Companions, As we start the New Year we need to reflect on a successful first half of the Grand Council year and look to dedicate ourselves to do even more in 2017. Two events I would like to reflect on in this article are the Constitution and Dedication of the new Council plus Super Excellent Master Degree and the Victorville Gathering. To Constitute and Dedicate a new lodge does not happen very often in fact it is rare. It takes planning and hard work. Excellent Companion Edgar Fentum KYGCH, PGHP saw a need at the Masonic Home/Acacia Creek and established not only a new Council but also a new Chapter and a Commandery UD. He has shown time and again what one man can do. Of course he had help, but he coordinated his team and completed this monumental task to completion. It was an honor to officiate at this event and I’m sure the same honor from the team that Constituted, Dedicated and Installed the founder and members of Sword and Trowel Council #65. After this ceremony the Super Excellent Master Degree was conferred. Grand Soloist Right Illustrious Mark Harris assembled a degree team, plus stage crew and makeup tech, and put on an excellent degree. He has done this before and every time it was performed with professional and excellent standards. This is a major accomplishment, with tons of work, considering this is the largest degree in the York Rite to confer. He coordinated his team perfectly and was a joy for all to see. The Victorville Gathering was a special event because our York Rite Grand Officers joined together, for the first ever, with our Prince Hall Grand York Rite counter parts at a single event. This happened due to the forward thinking of our Grand Commander Sir Knight Steve Alderete KYGCH and Most Illustrious Companion Jim Baum KYGCH, MIPGM. Steve got the ball rolling by meeting with the Prince Hall Grand Commander and Jim’s organizing skills set the event at Victorville at the Elks Club. I had the great pleasure to meet and talk with Thrice Illustrious Grand Master Illustrious Companion Bernard Roberts, Jr. Great meeting, delicious food (Bar-B-Que), wonderful fellowship and hope for many more events with our Brothers of Prince Hall. I choose these events to illustrate what a few motivated and dedicated Companions can do. Dedication, Communication and Unity can accomplish great efforts. We need to continue to study and learn our Masonic teachings and communicate with each other worthwhile meetings and events. Share ideas and try to bring as many companions together as possible. While we are talking communication, dedication and hard work we need to recognize our very own Illustrious Companion Richard Thornton. KCT, KYCH who is in charge of this newsletter. PLEASE help him make it better by submitting articles and papers. Send him your fliers and announcements so all companions will know what is happening in the state. This will help you know what is in your area so maybe some of the companions from close by can join in your events or get ideas for your own events. Also PLEASE promote this wonderful newsletter to your members, which Richard has continually expanded and improved since its inception. I wish you all a Happy and Prosperous New Year, Hope to see ya’ll soon. God Bless, William E. Price KYGCH Most Illustrious Grand Master

Gibberish We, Grand Council Cryptic Masons of California, are considered an extension of the Blue Lodge and according to the subject of our degree’s we are an extension of the Blue Lodge. We complete the story of one that is famous among us Masons. This article will focus on a group of Cryptic Masons that control the instruction of the Ritual. But first let’s visit California Masonic Code and Grand Council Constitution. Both have very similar wordings about Inspectors; Our Inspectors are held to very similar duties as Grand Lodge Inspectors. Cryptic Arch’s School of Instructions is not held with any regularity; the next Chapter School of Instruction will be held on 4th Saturday, March 2017 for the Central Region and Blue Lodge School of Instruction is a monthly occurrence. The next Council School of Instruction will be held … For 2016 a School of Instruction notice has NOT been posted on-line or passed down to the council about a school of instruction and to date a notice has not been received nor posted on-line about an upcoming School of Instruction for 2017. To uphold our Vision Statement we must become a “true extension” of the Blue Lodge. Only by becoming a “True” extension we can tell and complete the story of H.A. and his work with King Solomon and Hiram, King of Tyre. As in the last article published in the Sword and Trowel; “I know this is brutal but Grand Officers, ADR’s, and Inspectors are the “Ambassadors” to the councils in their Department, Cryptic Arch. They interact with Companions of the Councils within their jurisdiction and when they schedule a School of Instruction we get to react with the other councils. By this gathering we become knowledgeable in our ritual and each council performs the same ritual.” Let us make a conscious effort to schedule and post a School of Instruction of all Councils within a Cryptic Arch on a Quarterly basis and semi-annually on a Department basis. This will be a “true” beginning for your Council, your Cryptic Arch, your Department, and our Grand Council of California.

Scholarships Companions, your children, grandchildren, & for some, great-grandchildren may receive financial help for attending school.
