Department Grand Officers Meeting Companions, We are nearing the end of the Cryptic year. Your Department Grand Officers met last month with several major items; 1) review the resolutions to be submitted, 2) select those companions who will be honored with awards at Grand Sessions, and 3) our Right Illustrious Deputy Grand Master submitted his plans for next year. I was pleased to hear that our ritual is improving; not only in the presentation quality but in the number of Councils taking on the task of performing their own degrees. And, most importantly, we heard about the condition of each of our Councils. It's always helpful to get the officers together and discuss different problems and finding out someone else has dealt with the same thing and developed a solution. We enjoyed our last scheduled reception in Stockton last month. Sonora, Stockton and Modesto put together an excellent event to cap off the year. Please plan on attending Grand Sessions. The registration form is available on the Grand York Rite website and needs to be in by April 17. Warmest Fraternal Regards, Brett MacDonald Illustrious Grand Master

Grand Council Calendar This year I will be emailing out a calendar monthly and if able to attend please make your reservations, in a timely manner. If you have any questions please feel free to call me (626) 991-6688.

Grand Sessions Companions, Next month is our Grand Sessions in Bakersfield at the Doubletree Hotel by Hilton. The dates are May 21st to the 25th and the registration forms and agenda are on the Grand York Rite web site. This is a time we need to come together for fellowship, to have a good time and get to know companions you may never get to meet otherwise. This is also the time to meet your Grand Officers and elect the new Grand Officers. To do the business of the Grand York Rite, vote on changes, and get the chance to have your voice heard. You are the Grand York Rite and you can meet the Grand Officers and give them your ideas and discuss the future of our beloved craft. There will be Companions from all over California as well as other states and countries. Where else can you have a chance to meet and discuss Masonry with so many of different Masons at one gathering? Both the General Grand Chapter International and General Grand Council international as well as the Grand Encampment of Knight Templars will be at the sessions. I hope to see and meet new members and Companions that are old friends. This is something I look forward to every year and I hope you feel the same after you come to your first Sessions. Bring your lady a get to whole experience. May God Bless You All, Fraternally, William E. Price KYCH Deputy Grand Master

Cryptic Masons Medical Research Foundation (1) Web Page Update As of yesterday afternoon, our Webmaster, Seth Rainwater, completed a major update to the web page. Many of you are aware that CMMRF had several videos posted on the media/information tab. Unfortunately all of these videos were at least two years old and several were more than five years old. Through the dedication and effort of Dr. Keith March and his Research Team, the Indiana Center for Vascular Biology and Medicine provided six new videos profiling the latest research now in process. These videos are now available to the public at large from our web page at: http://www.cmmrf.org/videos.html These videos may be viewed directly from the web page or they can be downloaded and taken to any venue for presentation. Please use these latest videos to spread the message of the good works accomplished through CMMRF. Our deep appreciation to all the folks at Indiana University who made this possible (2) Commemorative Coin Update Several jurisdictions have ordered coins from the office. We thank you for that. However, many have not yet ordered coins. While this imitative is optional, the Board of Trustees hoped that the jurisdictions would take advantage of this opportunity to raise funds for their local bodies. We currently have about 340 coins remaining. If your jurisdiction has not yet ordered coins please contact the office and order your fair share. (3) 2016 Shortfall Your extra effort is needed. Now! We are rapidly approaching the end March. With it comes the end of the first quarter of the year. Currently we have received only 7.7% of our budgeted donation income. If you have donations in your possession, then please send them to the office. If you do not have donations in your possession, then do what you can to get some. We are way behind on the timeline of donations. Thanks for your efforts and continued support. Fraternally yours, Gary G. Wyne Executive Secretary, CMMRF Our Charity (Cryptic Masons Medical Research Foundation) can really use your support with Dollars. Please send all donations to me, so that I may process the proper receipts and mail all donations to Cryptic Masons Medical Research Foundation in Nashville, Indiana. Please take a few minutes and think about our charity. Fred J. ‘Tiny’ Potter, MIPGM Chairman, CMMRF (California) 345 Otono Court Camarillo, CA 93012-6822

Humor A lesson to be learned from typing the wrong email address! A couple (Most Illustrious Grand Master of Cryptic Masons and his Lady) decided to go to Florida to thaw out during a particularly icy winter. They planned to stay at the same hotel where they spent their honeymoon 30 years earlier. Because of hectic schedules, it was difficult to coordinate their travel schedules. So, the MIGMCM left and flew to Florida on Thursday, with his wife flying down the following day. The MIGMCM checked into the hotel. There was a computer in his room, so he decided to send an email to his wife. However, he accidentally left out one letter in her email address, and without realizing his error, sent the email. Meanwhile, somewhere out West, a widow had just returned home from her husband's funeral. He was a Worshipful PM who was called to the Grand Lodge above following a heart attack. The widow decided to check her email expecting messages from relatives and friends. After reading the first message, she screamed and fainted. The widow's son rushed into the room, found his mother on the floor, and saw the computer screen which read: To: My Loving Wife Subject: I've arrived Date: April 01, 2016 I know you're surprised to hear from me. They have computers here now and you are allowed to send emails to your loved ones. I've just arrived and have been checked in. I see that everything has been prepared for your arrival tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing you then! Hope your journey is as uneventful as mine was. P.S. Sure is freaking hot down here!

Cryptic History SUPER EXCELLENT MASTER DEGREE

The Royal Arch Degree takes place at the time of the rebuilding of Solomon’s Temple, 450 years after the time of the Master Mason, Royal Master, and Select Master Degrees. The Super Excellent Master Degree in the Council tells the Story of how the Temple came to be destroyed and the children of Israel sent into exile. It also conveys and important moral lesson concerning Fidelity and the integrity of a Mason’s word being his bond when given as such. In the first section, as the candidate, you are received into a council of Super Excellent Masters where the forms of the ceremonies are similar to those of the preceding degrees. The second section is presented in the form of a drama portraying the Biblical account of Zedekiah, the last King of Judah. It tells how he had given his word as a pledge, but a pledge which he later found convenient to ignore when it was put to the test. This degree goes on to show how not only he personally suffered the consequences of betraying his word but how it led to the destruction of the temple and his people being sent into exile in Babylon. Masonically, it lays the ground work for the start of the Royal Arch Degree and the Order of the Red Cross in the Commandery of Knights Templar. The Super Excellent Master Degree adds to the completion of every Royal Arch Mason’s understanding of the complete Solomonic Legend by bridging the historical gap between the Most Excellent Master and Royal Arch Degrees in Chapter. The Super Excellent Master Degree is one of the most dramatic and memorable degrees in any Mason’s experience. The Super Excellent Master Degree is available to all Select Masters but is not a mandatory degree to becoming a Cryptic Mason. * Grand Council of Cryptic Masons of the State of New York
