Congratulations Companions, I received a message from Gary Wyne, Executive Secretary. He congratulated California on our donations to Cryptic Masons Medical Research Foundation for 2015. Through your efforts and support we were only surpassed by Florida. Companion Gary is planning on attending our Grand Sessions and bringing us up to date on the current research projects. General Grand Council has a limited number of the commemorative coins from the 46th Triennium available. Councils may order them for $10 each with the proceeds going to CMMRF. Contact leahgjackson@aol.com CMMRF Office Manager. Next month in Bakersfield the Department Grand Officers will meet and recap our performance for 2015. We will discuss successes Councils have had and how these events and programs can be used for all our Councils to increase participation by members and attract new members. If you are in the Orange County/Los Angeles area Orange County Chapter will be conferring the Mark Master degree on March 22nd at Orange Grove Masonic Center in Orange. This is a great opportunity to introduce your Lodge brothers to the York Rite. This event is very well planned with doors opening at 5 pm for refreshments, exhibits and presentations. Dinner at 6:30 pm with the degree following. After the degree there will be a Q&A session. There is no cost for the dinner or degree. See the enclosed flyer. Warmest Fraternal Regards, Brett MacDonald Illustrious Grand Master

Itinerary This year I will be emailing out a calendar monthly and if able to attend please make your reservations, in a timely manner. If you have any questions please feel free to call me (626) 991-6688.

Leadership Companions, I have recently been contemplating what our craft needs to preserve our future and leadership jumped to the forefront. We need to continue to train our leaders but even more important we need to train our future leaders. We, as current leaders, have extremely full plates and need to allow our younger members to elevate themselves to higher responsibilities. We have a wonderful program in place and Companions Ramsey, Downey, and Hall have updated this program to be more effective each year it has been implemented. We now need to have our future leaders attend this Leadership Program and allow them to occupy leadership roles in our Councils. One of the most important roles in our councils is the Recorder. I was talking to Most Illustrious Ken Hope the other day about the great turnover of recorders and the need of better training for our recorders. One of the best ways to insure this need is to have an assistance recorder so each council has a ready-made replacement if needed. A well-oiled Grand Council runs only if all our Councils send all necessary paper work and per capita in on time and get all the paper work to the Grand Recorder properly filled out. The Grand Recorder is working on making it easier to accomplish this with interactive forms on the Grand York Rite web site. This will take time but we are working towards making more effective communication a reality. Your Grand Officers well continue to make improvements where needed and we welcome your input because this is OUR Council. May God Bless You All, Fraternally, William E. Price KYCH Deputy Grand Master

Cryptic Masons Medical Research Foundation Our Charity (Cryptic Masons Medical Research Foundation) can really use your support with Dollars. Please send all donations to me, so that I may process the proper receipts and mail all donations to Cryptic Masons Medical Research Foundation in Nashville, Indiana. Please take a few minutes and think about our charity.

Scholarships Companions, your children, grandchildren, & for some, great-grandchildren may receive financial help for attending school. After opening up Scholarship Center website, have them go to bottom of page & find the Scholarship Manual in (PDF format – 450KB) to download. There they will find instructions for filling out the forms. This is the link which will take you to the public Grand Lodge web page on scholarships. All the information you need should be right there. This is a complete manual that you can download that talk about all of the scholarships available from the California Masonic Foundation as well as the Scottish Rite, York Rite, Eastern Star, High Twelve, DeMolay, Job’s Daughters, & Rainbow for Girls.

Humor It seems one of our Illustrious Past Masters went to Heaven and met with St. Peter. Our Illustrious Past Master identified himself as a member of the Craft and St. Peter asked, "What York Rite Council?" Proudly, he replied, "Wallpaper Simon Two". St. Peter immediately took him to the Masonic Council Clock Room, a section in the Masonic Clock Room. Each clock had a Council’s name on a brass plate and, strangely enough, each clock was at a different time. The Illustrious Master asked why the clocks were all out of sync and St. Peter informed him that the hands only moved when someone in that Council made a mistake in the Ritual. The Illustrious Master wanted to see his Council’s clock and was told it was not here but was moved to the kitchen. "The kitchen????!!!!” "Yes, you see, we needed a new fan."
