THE NATIONAL MASONIC TRAIL OF WASHINGTON, D.C., “VOLKSMARCH”
The National Masonic Trail of Washington, D.C., “Volksmarch”, in June 2007 (AS PUBLISHED IN THE DECEMBER ISSUE OF THE AMERICAN WANDERER)
T
he Grand Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons of the District of Columbia in Washington has joined forcers with AVA-901,US Freedom Walk Festival Club, Inc. to create a one-day volksmarch on June 9, 2007, that tells the story of Freemasons in the founding of the United States and the construction of its Capital City. The walk will take place as part of an international gathering of Freemasons in Washington D.C., and will be open to all. Ultimately, the volksmarch will coincide with the release of Mr. Dan Brown’s newest book in the “Da Vinci Code” and “Angels and Demons” series that will feature the Freemasons in the Washington, D.C., area. The Grand Lodge is using this volksmarch to tell the true story to walkers of all ages. Walkers will start at the Almas Shrine Center located at 13th and K Streets. They will then to four checkpoints arranged on the symbolic street pattern at the core of our nation’s capital city. This sacred design was intentionally placed into the D.C. streets by the Founding fathers that were Masons. Notable Masons will tell the story at each of the checkpoints so that when the walkers have completed the trail,
they will understand the Masonic contribution to America and the building of Washington, D.C. There will also be a special ceremony along the trail at the National Monument to the Signers of the Declaration of Independence. Back at the Almas Shrine Center there will be music and food in the traditional volksmarching spirit. There will be a special pin awarded for all who register and pay the fees. The pin will be appropriate to wear on Masonic attire as well as a volksmarching cap. Walkers from all over the world will participate in this unique event. One special invitee is the IVV President, Odd Ivar Ruud, who is a Mason in Norway. It will truly be in the spirit of fun, fitness and fellowship. Watch out for details at the Grand Lodge’s website at: www.dcgrandlodge.org For more information: everyone interested in getting the latest information on this weekend walking event are encouraged to send their email address to AVA901 at MasonicTrail@aol.com . The planning committee will release a newsletter each month updating all walkers and participants on the latest plans.
