1868 sicherte sich Architekt Bernhard Simon die Rechte am Thermalwasser für 100 Jahre. 1955 wurde der Vertrag erstmals um 50 Jahre erneuert und wäre 2018 ausgelaufen. Doch bereits 2003 wurde eine neue Konzession ausgehandelt. Zu den Bedingungen gehörte, dass maximal 4000 Liter Quellwasser pro Minute für «Trink-, Therapie-, Bade- und Heizzwecke» genutzt werden dürfen. 65 Prozent der Wassermenge stehen auch heute noch dem Grand Resort Bad Ragaz zur freien Verfügung. 25 Prozent werden an die Stiftung Valens und das öffentliche Bad der Kurhotels Valens AG abgegeben. Die vertraglichen Bestimmungen haben bis ins Jahr 2067 Gültigkeit. Das Thermalwasser entpuppte sich als nie versiegendes «Blaues Gold» für Bad Ragaz und förderte in den vergangenen 175 Jahren dessen Ent wicklung hin zum heute international bekannten Tourismus-, Bade- und Kurort.
In 1868, architect Bernhard Simon secured the rights to the thermal water for 100 years. The agreement was renewed for the first time in 1955 for a further 50 years, and had been due to expire in 2018, before a new arrangement was negotiated back in 2003. One of the conditions of this agreement was that a maximum of 4,000 litres of spring water per minute could be used for “drinking, therapy, bathing and heating purposes”. 65 per cent of this volume of water remains freely available to the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz to this day, while 25 per cent is used by the Valens Clinic Insitute foundation and the public baths of Kurhotel Valens AG. The provisions of the agreement will remain valid until 2067. The thermal water has proven to be an unceasing flow of “Blue Gold” for Bad Ragaz, helping it over the last 175 years to develop into an internationally renowned tourism, spa and health resort.
