I NSPIRATION As part of a design competitionn to design a bank for the Canadian Western Bank, we were asked to come up with design concepts through inspiration in nature and the built environment. The Aurora Borealis over Edmonton’s skyline gave me the idea for the concept of “evolution”.

M ODELING B Y H AND /H AND R ENDERING

In 1st year design, we were asked to create a “thinking space” for a well known individual or individuals. I chose The Brothers Grimm. I designed and hand-crafted a space to look as if it were a secret hideout under a dead old tree. We had to consider our “clients” preferences and habits when designing this “thinktuary” for them, and I feel that I met that specification quite well.

After a step by step process puting together different art materials to create the effect I was looking for, The Brothers Grimm tree hideout was complete. Included in the project requirements was a hand rendered presentation board. I created the initial printout in Autocad and then used markers and pencil crayons to create as realistic an image as possible.

YEAR PLANNING

As part of our design class we were asked to come up with an idea for a 3 story dormitory suitable for the NAIT campuss. It was to include a main floor commercial area as well as a residenti al entrance for the dorm apartments above. Following the criteria given, I used Autocad, Sketchup, and hand rendering skills to layout my design.

With the use of photoshop, I was able to manipulate images and objects importing them into InDesign to create my unique take on a personal brochure resembling a desk top. I also used InDesign to create a double sided business card and matching resume.
