Earlier, she served as a faculty member at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing and as director of the MeharryVanderbilt Alliance Disease Management Program. Her research interests include preventing long-term effects of adverse childhood experiences, discovery of best practices for preparing the next generation of healthcare providers and healthcare policy. Taylor holds a Doctor of Public Health degree from the University of Alabama, Birmingham and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Vanderbilt.
