Gracia Movi Kusnadi My passion for architecture encourage me to think beyond aesthetics and arts. Using recent technologies and sustainability strategies, I think that architecture should prioritize its occupant’s well being and comfort in mind.

Map of Oakland
The design concept of this building is based upon the city of Oakland’s grid and urban landscape. It combines the grid’s formality and the landscape’s informal shape. The center of the facade and the ciruclation is made out of triangulated glass that is organically shaped, which is then enclosed by a gridded form. This shows that there can be a synergy between the “old” and “formal” urban designs with the “new and “informal “ urban design.

Our proposed urban plan is to have a green belt that surrounds the Downtown Oakland area to reduce the amount of noise polution from the freeway. The site is located in our proposed green space and it will allow people to transition from the freeway to the residential and commercial part of Downtown Oakland.
Massing Diagram
1. At first, all of the grounds are covered and extruded.
4. The skyscraper is divided into two parts so that air can flow through between buildings.
2. In relation to the preservation buildings beside the site, the massing was pushed back and is dedicated for green space.
5. One buildings is made shorter to have a dynamic height and decrease the shadow that it is casting to the surrounding buildings.
3. One side is dedicated for the skyscraper, matching the surrounding tall buildings.
6. Gaps were made between floors for facilities and to increase the airflow.

Floor Plans Housing Our program for low income housing is provided in the shorter skyscraper. These studio apartments are subsidized by those who rent the luxury units. The shorter skyscraper contains a studio and 1-bedroom, while the higher skyscraper contains a more spacious 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom units for middle or high-income
Transportation
Bridgeside skyscraper
To reduce the amount of pollution and traffic in Oakland, we will incentivize tenants with a bus stop located at the base of the site. The residences of the skyscraper can travel to their workplace or other locations by using this bus. Furthermore, this bus stop is designed beside the Martin Luther King Jr. Way to support the transportation in Downtown Oakland.

The facade of the towers are inspired by Oakland’s history as a major port city, this diagrid design with angled glass represents the sea waves. It is designed to be angled to help ventilate the tower by letting in cold air and letting out hot air.

Anyone seeking more privacy may venture out of the main building after they have all their necessities - a map, cup of coffee, or a book - and pick their reading spots. These pods are designed for one or two people. The entrance are enclosed by walls on either side so the person sitting inside can easily notice people walk in.
The shape of the main building’s programs and reading pods represent a leaf or petal, so that it can have a similar depiction of the nature surrounding it. The walls and roof of the building uses columns or fins that helps enclose the space without blocking the view completely.

The school is divided into two main buildings that differentiate between architecture and visual arts students. They are then connected through a shared space at the third floor. Additionally there is a courtyard on the bottom level serving as a space where students can interact with each other. Multiple facades were used to give each side of the building a different kind of style and feeling.
