DAILY BIBLE READING

September – December 2015

“Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?” (Luke 24:32 ESV) We invite you to read the Bible with others in Grace Church this term. This planner will take you through Luke and Acts by the end of 2015. In these books Luke writes an orderly account of the life of Jesus and the early church. Our main sermon series this term CHRISTLIKE draws on these two books.

What will I need?  This Planner. The reading plan is also in the Welcome Sheet each week.  A Bible. We will gladly give you a copy of the Bible – ask at the Connect point. We also recommend the free ESV Bible App and YouVersion app.  Notebook. To write down prayers and notes.  10-20mins each day. On your own, or with friends.

What do I do?  Pray. Ask God would help you to see Jesus.  Read. The plan gives a short Bible passage to read, five days a week.  Questions. Three steps to follow to discern what Luke is saying about Jesus.

What if I miss a day? No guilt! Move on to the next day, or catchup at the weekend!

Three steps to walk through as you read. Step 1: Observation Who? What? When? Where? Why? How? Highlight repetitions. Notice any scenes or sections. How are they connected? Can you summarise what this passage says in a short sentence? Step 2: Interpretation How does this passage fit with what came before in this book and the Bible? Note anything confusing to ponder or talk about with others. What wouldn’t we know about Jesus, us or this world, if this passage wasn’t here? Step 3: Application What should I now do/think/feel/enjoy/believe? Write a short prayer in response to this. Where do I need help? When you see others in Grace Church, ask them what they’re seeing of Jesus.
