Miami Children´s Museum

Traveling with kids always has to include programs for them. What about putting together vacation trip with art and culture? The Miami Children’s Museum is in the list of the 10 biggest children’s museums in the United States. It was created in 1983, and underwent for ten renovations before moving to the Watson Island, with an investment of USD 25 million, in 2003. The building represents the four elements: earth, air, fire, and water.

There are 14 galleries with permanent and temporary exhibitions. Each space is designed to interaction and learning. On the entrance, the Kidscape Village mimics a real city, complete with bank, supermarket, and hospital, so the children have the opportunity to play adults. The attractions continue with works related to the sea, an aquarium and a mini port; there is the music world that lead the young to know different rhythms, play instruments and dance; there is the art gallery and an open air area with a playground. It is fun for a whole day. One tip: take snacks for the day, the only option is a Subway. HISTORY MIAMI MUSEUM   Ao longo dos seus 191 anos, Miami está em constante transformação. A cada visita, uma novidade. E é possível conhecer um pouco da evolução da cidade no History Miami Museum. O prédio, fundado em 1940, reúne objetos, ilustrações e documentos relacionados ao Sul da Flórida e ao Caribe. Só de fotografias impressas e negativos, datado de 1883 até hoje, são 1,5 milhões. Além disso, os recursos visuais incluem mapas, cartazes, e cartões postais. correspondência pessoal e fitas de história oral e transcrições. A coleção permanente contém ainda 40 mil artefatos ligados à história americana e caribenha, principalmente do Século XX. A variedade de objetos é enorme. Desde modelos de avião e materiais da extinta companhia aérea Pan American Airways a utensílios da época pré-colombiana, como instrumentos domésticos e barcos. O museu também possui três galerias de exposições temporárias. During its 191 years, Miami has been in constant transformation. Each time you visit, there is something new. It is possible to know a little about the city evolution in the History Miami Museum. The building was founded in 1940, and has objects, illustrations, and documents related to South Florida and the Caribe. Counting only impressed photos and photo negatives from 1883 up to today, there are 1.5 million. The visuals include also maps, posters, and post cards.

Walking through the Museum we get a hint of how was everyday life, thanks to historical documents preserved by the museum, like family letters, journals, personal correspondence, and tapes of oral history and transcriptions. The permanent collection has alto 40 thousand artifacts related to the American and Caribbean history, mostly from the 20th. century. There is a huge variety of objects – from airplane models and material of the extinct Pan Am Airways to objects of the preColombian era, like household utensils and boats. The museum has also three galleries for temporary exhibitions.
