A PATH TO SUCCESS “He is tall, thin and blonde, has gorgeous white teeth, and looks just like Robert Redford. He hangs out around town with a chauffeur in a silver Cadillac with his initials DJT encrusted in the license plate. Hangs out with skinny fashion models, attends the most glamorous clubs and, at the age of only 30, it is estimated he is worth “more than USD 200 million”. This was Donald Trump’s description, in 1976, from the second page of one of the most important newspapers in the United States, The New York Times. Later on at the age of 40, after gaining some extra pounds and several millions dollars more, the promising young man from the real estate market becomes the president of the United States. It was not unusual for Donald Trump, during his campaign, to call himself a “self mademan” – a very frequent expression among Americans to describe someone who moved up in the world by their own efforts. Born in Queens, Donald spent his teenage years in the New York Military Academy, and there he learned how to develop discipline. He won USD 1 million from his father, Fred Trump, to invest in business as soon as he got his economy degree in Wharton School of the University of Pensilvania, in Philadelphia. Trump even counted on his progenitor as the guarantor in his investments, and with friends from politics and the banking industry. He inherited a great nose for opportunities and his appreciation for work. His father used to tell his children: “if you want to hang out with me, come work with me”. Thus, the elected president of the United States spent a part of his childhood in construction sites alongside his father.

In 1968, he was determined to take the Trump reputation to Manhattan, the 22 year old young man challenged the crisis and built his first company’s project. Opposed by his father, but still with his help, Trump invested in the remodeling of Grand Hyatt Hotel, which rose New York from the ashes, created jobs, brought investments and also made him chairman of his family’s company at the age of 25. Donald was becoming more and more popular in the real estate business and eventually started to diversify his investments. He bought the American football team New Jersey Generals in 1983, which went bankrupt soon after. He also invested in beauty contests like Miss USA and Miss Universe as well as in models agencies and even casinos, which almost ruined him.

At around the same time, he faced the divorce from Slovak fashion model Ivana Marie Zelníčková, with whom he married in 1983 and had three children: Donald Jr., Eric and Ivanka. Four years later, his marriage with the American model Marla Maples came to an end, with whom he had a daughter, Tiffany, and also the responsible for his first break up. Trump used the press that would broadcast his scandals in his favor e became famous when he took part in TV series like Fresh Prince of Bal Air, The Nanny and the legendary Home Alone. He has been married with model Melania Knauss sice 2005, with whom he had one child, Barron, who is ten years old.

In 1996, Trump had rebuilt his empire and came back to be part of Forbes list of world’s most rich people. From that point on, he realized how important his trademark was, and started selling it to real estate projects, like buildings and hotels. In 2003, Donald boomed with the premiere of The Apprentice, which was aired until 2015, when he gave a break to dedicate himself to the presidential campaign, which he was successful in November 2016. At the age of 70 and with an estimated USD 3,7 billion wealth, Trump made it to the White House to start his term full of expectation.
