When we talk about great names of Boxing, it is impossible not to remember Muhammad Ali, the iconic American boxer who had a brilliant career and died in June of 2016. Over the years, the athlete had taken the U.S.A. flag to the top of the podium. Besides Ali, other important names have achieved the same accomplishment such as Mike Tyson, Joe Louis, George Foreman, and Rocky Marciano. These victories have turned the country into an exporter of martial arts athletes and have motivated many sportspeople to wish to start and consolidate their careers in the American land. This continues to be the dream of many of them and, on this edition, I Am going to explain the process to achieve it.

EXTRAORDINARY ATHLETES The O-1A is a non-immigrant visa directed to individuals with extraordinary abilities in the field of science, education, business and sports. Recognized athletes from modalities such as jiu-jitsu or Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) who would like to apply for this visa, must prove the winning of an important prize of international recognition or demonstrate that they possess three out of eight requirements settled by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Immigration, such as document proof of published material on the specialized media about the athlete, proof of payment over the average considering athletes of the same category, even membership to associations that demand exceptional achievements from their members.

After the visa is granted, the athlete will go to the USA temporarily to work in their field of expertise for a period of up to three years. Spouse and children of the candidates can go with them but they are not allowed to work. An important issue to point out is that a petitioner is required for the visa; meaning, a company or an agent must request the athlete’s trip. Accomplishing professional goals in this field in the U.S.A. may seem a difficult task, but if you have the necessary professional assistance, your path will be safe and calm. Let’s fight for it!
