Eight years ago, Brazilian entrepeneur Richard Harary wasn’t aware of the difference between different bottle nipples and had never seen a breast pump, much less baby colic drops. Harary discovered this universe when he nearly went crazy while trying to buy some of these itens for his daughter, Gabriela. Lost amidst so many options on the shelves and without the help of a trained saleswoman, he realized this could be a promising business.

Em 1971, Samy criou uma empresa de confecção esportiva em São Paulo, que até hoje funciona e emprega 500 pessoas. “Desde os dez anos de idade, eu ia à fábrica ajudar e entender como tudo funcionava. Acabei aprendendo sobre todas as etapas, desde a produção até a venda», conta. Nascido em São Paulo, Richard desembarcou nos Estados Unidos aos 18 anos para estudar Psicologia. Cursou mestrado na área e também business na University Central Florida. O empreendedorismo sempre o interessou. Hoje, administra a loja com cerca de seis mil metros quadrados, que conta com 130 funcionários. “Somos uma família e acredito que isso se reflete no serviço personalizado e cuidadoso que oferecemos. Somos a loja de bebê com o coração”, diz orgulhoso. Dentre os serviços exclusivos, uma máquina de ultrassom 4D para a gestante saber o sexo do bebê, uma limusine para transportar os clientes e a montagem da mala por profissionais. “Sou eu quem responde quando um cliente manda e-mail reclamando de algo. Atendo o telefone do nosso call center sempre que posso e vou à loja quase todos os dias”, explica o empresário de 38 anos. Durante a semana, Richard se divide entre a Macrobaby e reuniões com investidores da holding. Juntos, administram a loja de bebê e gerenciam outras seis marcas. Os planos do grupo são ousados e entre eles está a expansão dentro dos Estados Unidos. Aos finais de semana, para esfriar a cabeça, volta a ser criança com os três filhos: Gabriela, de oito anos, e os gêmeos Alexander e Rebecca, de 5. E, entre uma brincadeira e outra, ainda encontra tempo para seu hobby favorito: pilotar avião. “Quando estou no ar, eu me permito relaxar e ter um tempo só pra mim”, confessa. Owner of an online shop, he stopped selling products like sunglasses and suitcases and started to focus on only one item: strollers. This was the first product sold on Macrobaby, an Orlando store that has, today, the biggest selection of baby products in the world. The store carries more than 40.000 products from 900 different brands. Richard inherited his perchance for business from his parents. He’s the son of an Egyptian man and a Sudanese woman who moved to Brazil in 1950 to escape religious persecution — both of them are jewish. “My father, Samy, bought a dictionary, so he could communicate in portuguese, and a sock-making machine. After that, he never stopped working”, he says. In 1971, Samy founded a sports clothing company in Sao Paulo that stills operates, employing 500 people. “When I was 10 years old I started going to the factory to help and to understand how everything worked. I ended up learning about every step, from production to sales”, he says. Born in Sao Paulo, Richard landed in the USA at the tender age of 18 to study Psychology. He got a master’s degree in psychology and another one in business from University Central Florida. He always had a thing for entrepreneurship. Today, he runs a 6000 square meters store and oversees 130 employees. “We are a family, and I believe this affects the personalized and meticulous service we provide. We are a baby store with a heart”, he beams. Among some of the unique services offered are a 4D ultrasound machine for soon-to-be mothers who want to know their baby’s sex, a limo used to drive costumers around and professional bag-packing. “I am the one that answers when clients send an email with some complaint. I also answer calls in our call center whenever I can and go to the store almost every single day”, says the 38 year old businessman. During the week, Richard shares his attention between Macrobaby and numerous meetings with his fellow investors. Together, they run the store and manage other six brands. The group’s plans are bold, one of them being to expand the brand within the United States. On weekends, to cool off, Richard turns into a child again with his three children: Gabriela, 8, and twins Alexander and Rebecca, 5. Between games, he finds time for his favorite hobby: flying airplanes. “When I’m in the air, I can relax and have some time for myself”, he says.
