Activity Suggestions in Lisbon

Option 1 Rib’s boat tour of national monuments along the river Tagus & Belém Maximum nr of participants: 12 people per boat Duration: up to 45 minutes Location: Belém

See Lisbon from a different perspective; on the water! We will ride along the northern shore of the river between Praça do Comércio and the Belém Tower and back. We’ll have the chance to see all the important monuments and understand how the city is distributed amongst a landscape made up of seven hills. Along the way we will also have the opportunity to do some tricks with the boats, making this water trip all the more exciting!

Nowadays Belém is an area of leisure and recreation where historical monuments lie side by side with modern museums, contemporary art exhibitions and busy cafes. The momentous occasion of the discoveries is celebrated in the Monument to the Discoveries. Further along the riverbank is the Tower of Belém, a formidable fortress and key to the defence of the estuary mouth. After the visits, do not leave without a visit to the “Pastéis de Belém” factory, for a taste of the famous portuguese custard tarts!

Speed boats & walking tour in Belém

Option 2 NATIONS PARK Location: Oriental part of Lisbon Distance: approx. 15 minutes by bus from recommended hotels Duration: up to 4 hours

Visit Parque das Naรงoes (Nations Park), where the Lisbon World Exposition (EXPO `98) which was dedicated to the theme: "The Oceans - A Heritage to the Future" - took place. We will take a cable car trip to the other side of the Nations Park where you will be able to visit the Lisbon Oceanarium (the largest in Europe) and the most ambitious construction ever attempted. It aimed and succeeded in bringing together all the different ocean regions of the Planet; North Atlantic, Pacific, Antarctic and Indian Ocean; all positioned around a gigantic central tank with 25.000 fish, birds and mammals on display.

Modern Lisbon

Option 3 SHOPPING TRIP Location: Chiado Duration: Half day activity Distance: Approxim. 10 min. from recommended hotels

Wandering around the traditional and specialist Lisbon shops After lunch we will go shopping in Baixa, literally translated as 'low', is situated in the gulf between the two main hills of the city and is the central business and shopping district of the capital. Here a grid of straight streets lined with neoclassical buildings link up majestic squares and grand avenues, widely considered an architectural achievement of great note in Europe at the time. The ground floor may contain a fashionable high-street store, one of the legendary Lisbon cafes like the Nicola or even one of the many establishments offering pieces of filigree Portuguese gold work on the Rua do Ouro or Rua da Prata (Gold and Silver Street, respectively). Chiado itself is a relatively small yet highly sophisticated quarter of the city. Its main street runs upwards from the Baixa to Bairro Alto and for centuries has been home to prestigious shopping.

Lisbon downtown

Option 4 Tasting tour in Lisbon Downtown Location: Lisbon downtown Recommended no. of guests: groups of 30 guests Duration: Up to 2 hours Distance: 10 min. by bus from suggested hotels in Lisbon The group will pass by the most interesting areas on the historical quarters, accompanied by a Freelance specialist who will give a city orientation and historical-cultural introduction in each quarter. The 1st tasting will be at one of the most popular taverns, to taste the cherry liquor Ginjinha. The berries are fermented into a brandy that’s slightly bitter, slightly sweet and very sticky. You can order a Ginja with or without a cherry in it. The 2nd tasting will be the famous bica at the Brasileira Café located in the Chiado Square! We suggest having the coffee outside to experience the true Portuguese espresso. A Brasileira (feminine word for the Brazilian) is one of the oldest and most famous cafés in Lisbon. The 3rd tasting – the Lisbon kiosk – will be a traditional drink! Right across the street, at Camões Square we will find the typical kiosk “Refresco”. This traditional vintage style kiosk offers the most traditional drinks from Lisbon, based in recipes dating back from the 60’s: the fresh lemonade, the capilé, the Portuguese liquor Beirão. The 4th tasting will be the classic Port Wine! We walk up the streets of Bairro Alto Quarter to reach the Port Wine Institute, where we can have a private wine tasting! This Manor house is situated in front of the most beautiful belvedere over Lisbon.

Tasting the city!
