Boeing Begins Move to New Building Complex in Huntsville Redstone Gateway facility to house 1,400 employees Consolidation reflects defense unit's cost-competitiveness efforts HUNTSVILLE, Ala., April 15, 2013 – Boeing [NYSE: BA] and Alabama leaders today officially opened a new complex in Huntsville that will advance Boeing’s competitiveness and strengthen the company’s commitment to the state. Boeing is the largest aerospace company in Alabama and one of the state's largest employers. Huntsville employees from several leased facilities have begun moving into the first completed building of the Redstone Gateway complex, which is expected to house 1,400 Boeing employees in 363,000 square feet of space. “This is more than a new consolidated office complex – today is a celebration of the investment Boeing has made in the ideas, innovation and inspiration rooted right here in Huntsville,” Tony Jones, vice president and Boeing Huntsville site executive, said at a ribbon-cutting ceremony that included state and local leaders and customer representatives. The complex will be used for Boeing’s work on NASA’s Space Launch System and headquarters for the company’s Strategic Missile and Defense Systems division. “Boeing is both a top employer in Huntsville and an important community partner,” said Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle. “Just last year, we celebrated the dedicated partnership Boeing has had with our community over the last 50 years, and today’s ribbon cutting is another sign that Boeing is committed to the Huntsville community. Boeing exemplifies what it means to be a good corporate steward and civic partner.” Employees will move into the complex’s second building later this year and the third in early 2014. Boeing will continue operating from the company-owned Jetplex location in Huntsville.

HP Helps Enterprises Mitigate Risk of Cyberthreats New faster-throughput HP TippingPoint appliances reduce data center footprint, energy consumption costs LONDON — HP today announced the expansion of the HP TippingPoint NX Series Next Generation Intrusion Prevention System (NGIPS) portfolio with new appliances that expedite the detection, identification and mitigation of network security threats. Traditional network security approaches are inefficient at mitigating risk and blocking disruptive attacks. Enterprises need complete security coverage from the data center to the small branch office, while maintaining optimum network performance. The new HP S7500NX, HP S6200NX and HP S2600NX NGIPS appliances round out the HP NX family to cover data transfer speeds of 20Gbps, 10Gbps and 3Gbps, respectively. The 20Gbps appliance provides one of the industry’s highest throughput levels(1) in a two-rack-unit form factor that can reduce an organization’s overall data center footprint and energy consumption costs.(2) The new solutions enable network security operations teams to locate threats quickly and accurately, without slowing network traffic. They also provide clients with the flexibility to customize the interfaces and bypass options, ensuring business continuity in the event of a hardware failure. “The boom in cloud and mobile applications has put the pressure on network security operations to provide the highest-speed networks while maintaining security efficacy,” said Rob Greer, vice president and general manager, Enterprise Security Products, TippingPoint, HP. “HP TippingPoint continues to deliver innovative network security solutions that address rapidly evolving security threats without adding complexity, cost or resource consumption to the data center.”

GSA

Northwest and Arctic Region Supports Sustainable Government Posted by Northwest/Arctic Region’s Cynthia Tolentino, Director, Facilities Management and Services Programs Division and Nancy Russell, Fleet Division Acting Director President Obama has directed federal agencies to lead by example and meet environmental, energy and economic performance standards. The President also directed agencies to develop practices that would increase the alternative fuel vehicles in the federal fleet. GSA’s Northwest/Arctic Region is making the federal government more sustainable by helping local agencies meet these goals by conserving energy, testing new technologies, and reducing utility costs. For example, GSA’s Northwest/Arctic Region recently helped Navy Base Everett in Washington state to become the first Navy Base fleet in the nation to be 100 percent compliant in using alternative fueled vehicles. The Navy installed an E85 fueling station so these vehicles can operate using alternate fuel that helps reduce consumption of conventional unleaded gas. Regional Fleet Service Representatives Lee Heydlauff and Georgette Brock partnered with the Navy to complete this challenge as part of GSA’s ongoing effort to save agencies money and be sustainable. In addition to helping our customers meet their energy targets, GSA uses its leverage as the nation’s largest real estate broker to evaluate energy saving technologies for federal buildings. The Northwest/Arctic Region recently installed a honeycomb solar hot water system on the roof of the Auburn, Washington, Regional Administration Building as part of the “Green Proving Ground” program and to support the agency’s commitment to sustainability and innovation. The honeycomb solar panels are a thermal system that utilizes the sun to heat water for use in the building for employees.. The technology was designed to help GSA meet the 2007 Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA). The EISA requires that 30 percent of GSA’s hot water demand be met with solar hot water, where cost effective. The honeycomb panels are crystal hexagonal “lenses” that focus the sun’s rays to amplify the energy. These types of collector panels work more effectively in cold and temperate climate zones such as the Pacific Northwest.

When using GSA MAS, your purchases count toward your socioeconomic program goals, while promoting compliance with various environmental and socioeconomic laws and regulations. Procedures used to purchase from GSA Schedules vary based upon the dollar amount of the procurement and whether or not a Statement of Work (SOW) is required. This manual will guide you through that process and help to gain an understanding of how the MAS program works.

New GSA Initiative Replaces Aging Federal Fleet with Up to 10,000 Hybrid Vehicles April 22, 2013 Washington, DC -- Ahead of Earth Day, the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) Acting Administrator Dan Tangherlini announced a new GSA Fleet consolidation initiative to give federal agencies the opportunity to replace their aging fleet with hybrid vehicles. Through this initiative, GSA would expand the number of hybrid vehicles in the federal fleet by up to 10,000 vehicles, resulting in the reduction of approximately 1,000,000 gallons of fuel per year for the life of these vehicles. This is a significant opportunity to more efficiently manage fleet operations, create significant savings through fuel efficiency, and make government more sustainable. “Providing a hybrid federal fleet is an essential part of GSA’s commitment to making government agencies as efficient and effective as possible,” said GSA Acting Administrator Dan Tangherlini. “At a time when government needs to make every tax dollar count, GSA is committed to creating more energy efficiency and cost-saving opportunities like the fleet consolidation program that make government smarter and reduce our environmental footprint.” Through this initiative, federal agencies can now consolidate vehicles into the GSA Fleet inventory. If agencies choose to participate in the program, GSA will fund the total incremental cost to replace eligible consolidated vehicles with new hybrid sedans. Consolidating with GSA Fleet will also provide GSA’s federal partners with end-toend fleet management services including vehicle acquisition and disposal, maintenance control and accident management, fuel and loss prevention services and a management system that provides detailed and accurate data to efficiently manage fleet operations -- all for a low-cost monthly rate.

GSA Accepts $19.5 Million Bid for Georgetown Heating Plant Sale moves forward, offering savings and better value for the taxpayers March 12, 2013 WASHINGTON -- Today, the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) accepted the top bid of $19.5 million for the Georgetown Heating Plant in Washington, D.C., which moves this excess federal property one step closer to a sale and moving it off of the government’s books. Georgetown 29K, LLC submitted the winning bid, and GSA is now working with them to close the sale. “The Georgetown Heating Plant sale is the latest action in our efforts to get excess federal properties off our books while creating savings for taxpayers,” said Dan Tangherlini, GSA Acting Administrator. “GSA remains committed to using innovative ways to put excess properties to new uses. We are hosting auctions, requesting industry input, and offering proposed exchanges, which helps us to deliver on our mission to provide better value to the American people.” The online auction concluded on March 6, and now that GSA has officially accepted the offer today, and the successful bidder, Georgetown 29K, LLC, will now have ten days to provide an additional deposit to move the sale process forward. After the deposit is received, the transfer of title to the new owner should happen within approximately 100 days. The Georgetown Heating Plant sits on a historic two-acre site near the Georgetown Waterfront in Washington, D.C., and once served as a heating source for government facilities in the area. It no longer serves the government’s needs, and GSA proceeded with an auction to dispose of the facility. The auction opened on January 18 with a closing soft closing date was set for of February 19, but because of the enthusiastic daily bidding activity, the online auction continued for an additional two weeks.
