Visual and literary study of patient David Nussbaum, treated at JCRS, (now RMCAD). Book design and fictional retelling. Original poem by David Nussbaum(right) Double spread on following page.

Keep Smiling Please be patient, you in the San Science, and your doctors are doing all they can. It’s true that at times you get sad and blue, Just remember that there others much worse off than you. Try to be cheerful; it will make your troubles fewer. I’m sure that you’ll find it will hasten your cure. So keep on smiling, don’t let your thoughts roam, And e’en ere you know it, You’ll be going home.

He was an older gentleman of about fifty; shorter, dark haired, with a strong complexion and broad facial features. He carried a large black case under his right arm as his suit jacket, blue with slight white pinstripes, hung carelessly around a brown leather suitcase. By his possessions and light pretentious demeanor in his step, I took him to either be a professional musician or possible a man of many privileges. This being the Jewish Consumptives Relief Society and not the Jewish Memorial Hospital, it no longer mattered if he came from money or not. He was here because he had tuberculosis and because he was dying. I am not saying that because he was here that he wasn’t going to survive, we all have to have hope and faith, but needless to say, he was a little less healthy than most.

Final spread: Patient’s actual death note and list of personal effects.

Be Casually Sophisticated

You have to strike the right balance of both sex and sophistication. - Tina Chai

Culture Behind the Design

Automobiles have been cultural icons since the Duryea brothers’ road test in 1893. Since then, countries have been developing and redefining their product lines and advertising to stay ahead of each other. With the increase of technology, car companies today are reaching a much greater market through design and concept, while trying to maintain their cultural integrity. How do they distinguish themselves from each other when they are producing and selling a product with the same purpose in mind?

Senior thesis: Poster series and written document. Model cars wrapped with clear labels.

I’m always thinking about creating. My future starts when I wake up every morning. Every day I find something creative to do with my life. -Miles Davis

Without the ability to describe their allergies and problems, children are at risk of injury or illness that can be easily avoided. Inspired by the severe peanut allergies of my two nephews, Will and Nate, AllerTees is a subtle and fashionable way to protect the ones you love. Products consist of T-shirts, sweatshirts, stickers, & buttons with a wider variety of styles and allergy topics to come.

Keep it Simple

I am a

Designer. simple

Though times may be difficult, there are many pleasures to be had and places to go. I now look around and see design in the smallest object, even the mundane. I realize that this is why I went back to school to become a designer. To be honest, design is my true passion, and I am happy because of it.

My goal is to take the knowledge that I have learned through triumphs and failures, and apply them to the design world, while leading others to find their own inspiration and creative energy.
