is growing, and undergoing major changes. This makes Gosselin a very exciting place to be.

Last but not least, we also have a new Gosselin logo. This new, simplified logo will lead to increased uniformity, and contribute to improved cost efficiency. Its modern and dynamic look really suits a company like ours. It will help us reinforce Gosselin’s reputation in the market as a leading provider of sustainable and innovative logistics services.

Happy reading!

Team in the spotlight

GIRL POWER The forwarding team in Rumbeke, Belgium Gosselin Logistics also has a forwarding office in Rumbeke, staffed by an enthusiastic team of six employees, who bring a total of 90 years of logistics experience to the table. Pretty impressive! Time to meet them. Office Manager Hilde Crombez starts: “Here in Rumbeke, we provide logistics services to customers from West Flanders and part of East Flanders. They mostly contact us for the import of ocean and air freight shipments from the Far East. This usually involves textiles: finished articles of clothing and rolls of fabric for the furniture industry. We also offer logistics support for export. “Our customers appreciate this local presence since not many of our competitors have an office in West Flanders. In general, our customers are very demanding and price-conscious rightly so - but also very loyal. We try to pamper them as much as we can.” I can’t imagine a better team “It’s pure coincidence that the team is comprised entirely of women,” Hilde continues. “Some of us have been working together for a long time, from back when the company was called Crosstainer and even before that. This has made us an incredibly close team. We have 90 years of experience in logistics, in total. Not only do we have

Big in Asia The relationship between the companies Gosselin and Crosstainer started several years ago. A motivated Sino-Belgian team focuses on import from and export to Asia and guarantees fast, flexible and cost-effective transport, both by air and by sea. Complete door-to-door operations are being performed at high quality standards. We operate daily and weekly import shipments for retailers and traders in Western Europe, in which our own offices in China and South East Asia play an inevitable role.

a lot of know-how and a professional attitude, we can also have a lot of fun together. I can’t imagine a better team than this!” GOSSELIN LOGISTICS MAGAZINE

CONNECTING THE DOTS Between Asia, Europe and Africa Gosselin Logistics covers a triangle-shaped area spanning the globe, connecting Asia with Europe and Africa. Three elements stand out: extensive experience with logistics partnerships in Asia, far-reaching ambitions in Africa, and the availability of intelligent container tracking.

Rik Spruyt (CEO of the Crosstrades network), Philippe Van Schoor and Geert De Wilde have great plans for logistics services in Africa. The African continent is making rapid economic advances. Our logistics division doesn’t want to miss out on these opportunities, and is offering services for container, break-bulk and air freight shipments to Africa.

Air and seafreight from Asia Over the past 25 years, Gosselin has invested in people, offices and partners, and has expanded a network that has grown to extend from Western Europe to Asia. The group acquired Crosstainer, a company that has been focusing on the shipment of goods from China since 2005. Thanks to this acquisition, Gosselin became the only Belgian forwarder to be fully licensed in China. An enthusiastic Chinese-Belgian team guarantees speed, flexibility and cost-efficient transport by air and by sea. To land-locked countries in Africa Geert De Wilde, Managing Director of the forwarding department explains: “We are currently focusing on logistics services to Sub-Saharan Africa: these are the countries that are located below the Sahara desert. We are working with the Crosstrades network for these activities. This is a new network of local agents with a lot of experience who

offer high-quality services, and are very knowledgeable about their specific region in Africa.” Creating added value “Shipping goods to an African port is not difficult,” business developer Philippe Van Schoor adds. “The real challenge is what comes after that, shipping goods to a destination in the interior. Certain roads are not always very passable, or the political situation in the transit countries is unstable. This is why our expertise for being able to ship goods efficiently to the interior or to landlocked countries, countries without a port, is of such high added value for our customers.” Philippe van Schoor has more than 30 years of experience in logistics services to Africa. These days, he is working on expanding our customer portfolio, and is closely following the partnership with the Crosstrades network.

On June 20, Felicia Guei Ble and Jean-Charles N’Dri Yocolly came to see us. They work for the logistics company Simat, in the port city of Abidjan, our local partner in Ivory Coast within the Crosstrades network.

Intelligence in container logistics “We go farther than our competitors,” Geert says. “Right now, we are making major investments in digitalisation to be able to constantly update our customers on the location of their goods. We are collaborating with the company Logit One. Their software makes it possible for us to track containers from start to finish, from shipping to unloading, and to be able to respond proactively to deviations from the pre-planned route or the pre-determined schedule.” “Our SaaS [Software as a Service] is what makes the difference, and on three levels,” Frank Knoors, CEO of Logit One, adds. “First, it increases the visibility of the route the container takes. Data from different sources of information, such as ship movements, transshipments, terminal events and hinterland moves are all consolidated

into a single streamlined system and made visible. Secondly, this system can calculate potential alternatives if a discrepancy arises between the planned and actual schedule. It can suggest a different discharge port or multimodal route to ensure the pre-agreed deadline is met. Thirdly, it contains an event management system in which Gosselin Logistics can set its own parameters.” Geert De Wilde: “The main idea behind this partnership is to enable our customers to save time and money, maintain the maximum amount of control over their supply chain, and reduce their environmental footprint by eliminating unnecessary transport activities. This extra service allows us to offer a reliable logistics solution for time-critical goods. Gosselin Logistics already offers this service for ocean freight shipments. A solution for air freight is in the works.”

Initial successes in Africa We recently started several great projects for a prominent beverage giant with around 50 breweries in Africa. Machine parts, cleaning products and labels are shipped to Deurne, grouped in containers, and forwarded to Nigeria. We also arrange road transport for this customer from Kenya to the surrounding countries, and sent the first air freight shipments with spare parts for machinery to Kinshasa. The raw materials for brewing beer such as malt, barley, sugar and corn were transported by Gosselin in full containers in the summer of 2016.

FROM BRUCARGO TO MADONNA’S BEDROOM Our partnership with EMK Beverly Hills It goes without saying that word-of-mouth advertising is the best kind. Fabian de Mortier, president of EMK Beverly Hills, was looking for a logistics partner when a friend recommended he get in touch with Gosselin Logistics. We now handle logistics flows for his company, a business that sells high-quality skin care products to Hollywood stars, among others. Fabian de Mortier, president of EMK Beverly Hills.

“The cosmetics company EMK was founded 17 years ago in Beverly Hills, California,” company president Fabian de Mortier tells us. “EMK specializes in the development and production of anti-aging products. Our portfolio currently contains 16 different skin treatment products that are based on the extraction of natural vegetal placenta from the Agave cactus native to Central America.” “The majority of our production takes place in the United States,” Fabian continues. “However, several products are produced in Belgium and France, such as RenascenceTM. This is a first-class anti-aging treatment that uses berries from Tibet. Stem Cell White CaviarTM is also made in Belgium. This treatment in gel form contains floating clouds of serum and is produced using high-tech machinery.”

Advantages of the bonded warehouse “I was looking for a logistics partner for the shipment of these last two products,” Fabian goes on. “A friend referred me to Gosselin. I met with the forwarding team in Brucargo, and was also given a tour of the warehouses. I was impressed with our initial contact, the prices were fair, and the partnership started a few months ago.” “Working with EMK has been smooth sailing,” Maria Baya, business developer at Gosselin Logistics tells us. “One of the advantages we offer is our bonded warehouse: this is where we temporarily store goods from different sources for this customer, products that will eventually be exported to the United States, Singapore and other countries, without having to clear customs in Belgium first when they are in transit. I think that we can even describe EMK Beverly Hills as the perfect customer. The lines of communication are short, so things always move very quickly.”

A long line of celebrities use and promote the EMK Beverly Hills products. These include impressive names such as Madonna, Cher, Simon Cowell, Tyra Banks, Victoria Beckham and Miss Universe 2016.

The Agave cactus is the basis used in a variety of products such as tequila and Aloe Vera. “It’s also the only plant in the world that contains ingredients that are identical to the proteins in human placenta,” Fabian says. “Thanks to a patented technology, EMK Beverly Hills is able to extract these proteins. They form the foundation of all of our products.” Further info on www.emkbh.com For further information on our services, visit www.gosselinlogistics.eu

Project spotlight

HEAVY-DUTY CARGO

The bigger, the better When a refinery company decided to expand its operations in Antwerp, we were more than happy to get involved. This project would mean the transport of large parts of the factory, the heaviest of which weighed over 1,000 (metric) tons.

No cargo is too large or heavy for Gosselin Logistics and Heavy. We can handle anything from the transport of large concert stages to complete production lines and parts of factories. Any largescale project is in good hands with us.

“This project involved an investment of over one billion Euros. We provided the transport of around 60 large and heavy factory components, from the arrival of the ships at the port of Antwerp to the deliveries to the refinery.”

weighing hundreds of tons had to be transported over public roads where major pipelines are located only 85 cm under the surface. Our detailed knowledge about the road network really came in handy.”

“We were commissioned by the Italian engineering firm Fagioli to help out with the expansion of a refinery operation," Lina Rombouts and Joris Leonaers tell us.

“We had to coordinate this transport with dozens of government agencies and official authorities. Even though the route was relatively short, it was also exceptionally complex. Components

tions for a period of 18 months,” Lina and Joris continue. “The final transport is the point at which everything comes together. three-man team will focus on air freight. We would like to take this opportunity to wish Ronald and his team the best of luck.

Are you looking for a customs broker to clear your goods? Gosselin’s customs clearance department will help your entry into and exit from the European Union by clearning your goods through the centrally located ports of Antwerp, Rotterdam, Zeebrugge and Brussels airport. GREEN LOGISTICS Gosselin Logistics is taking part in the Lean & Green program for forwarding companies. This ecological program aims to reduce these companies’ CO² emissions by 20% in five years. In cooperation with the Flanders Institute for Logistics (VIL) and the Antwerp Freight Forwarders Association (VEA), eight forwarding companies from the Antwerp area are participating in the project.

The initiative is aligned with our mission to offer sustainable services that will help our customers reduce their environmental footprint. The starting shot has been fired and the first workshops have been scheduled. We will definitely keep you up-to-date on all our progress!

“A substantial amount of synergy is generated between the various services we offer in-house. We can provide storage solutions, permits and any service necessary for assembly and manipulation at the construction site. We can supply small materials such as wheelbarrows, and large equipment such as gantry systems that can lift objects weighing over 1,000 tons. We also handle all of the coordination and logistics in-house. The advantage for customers is that they only have one point of contact. And in spite of the size of the projects, we are still capable of being very flexible.”

Eight forwarding companies are participating in the Lean & Green initiative. Representing Gosselin Logistics, Lieve Van Genechten (third from left) and Geert De Wilde (fourth from left) are taking the challenge with enthusiasm. GOSSELIN LOGISTICS MAGAZINE
