Who Are You In Christ?

By Cecil L. Brown, Gospel USA Magazine Publisher

A

* I am: The righteousness of God in Christ. (2 Corinthians 5:21)

sk most Christians, "who and/or what are you in Christ," and they will probably give you the generic answer of "a child of God." But, if you press them for additional attributes of themselves in Christ, most of them would probably not be able to give you many more, accurate, Biblical attributes of who and/or what they are in Christ.

* I am: Bought with a price, I am not my own, I belong to God. (1 Corinthians 6:20) * I am: The temple of the Holy Spirit... which lives in me. (1 Corinthians 6:19)

Following are 12 Biblical affirmations of attributes of who and or what we are in Christ Jesus. I STRONGLY urge each of you to memorize and learn to proclaim these and other affirmations regularly to yourself – and to others. Why? Because the day will come when you will have to stand before the Accuser of the brethren (the devil) and "confess" and "believe" your way into the Kingdom of God – or miss out! (Romans 10:9-10). Here are the 10 affirmations:

* I am: Saved... by grace, through faith... not of works... lest any man should boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9) * I am: Healed by the stripes of Jesus. (1 Peter 2:25, Isaiah 53:6) * I am: forgiven of my sins and redeemed through the Blood of Jesus. (Colossians 1:14) * I am: Delivered from the power of darkness and translated into God's kingdom. (Colossians 1:13)

* I am: Saved and made righteous... because I have confessed Jesus as Lord and I believe that God has raised Jesus from the dead. (Romans 10:9-10)

* I will: live and not die, and will proclaim what the Lord has done. (Psalm 118:17)

* I am: Forgiven of all my sins and cleansed of all unrighteousness... because I have confessed my sins to God and He is faithful to forgive. (1 John 1:9)

To find many more of the multitude of Biblical attributes of who and what we are in Christ Jesus and also find a variety of Biblical prayers which we can use to battle many of life's challenges – download or write for the FREE book entitled, Prayers, by visiting www.christianword.org.

* I am: Redeemed by the precious Blood of Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 1:18-19) * I am: Sealed by the Holy Spirit of God, unto the day of redemption. (Ephesians 4:30) gospelusamagazine.com

PHENOMENAL By

MEL HOLDER

featuring Michelle Brooks-Thompson

T

he one universal lesson of this current pandemic is that none of us can go through life alone. We were not made to exist in a vacuum, separate from everyone. Families, friends, and communities, though sometimes challenging, provide a support mechanism that builds a strong foundation. This is no different from the creative world; as a matter of fact this is the new paradigm for sustained success as we enter the new normal. In a time where social distancing became the way of life, Mel Holder and Michelle Brooks-Thompson did not allow isolation to deter them from moving forward, and their roads converged to create the new hit single, "Phenomenal," released February 25, 2022. Mel's call and ministry as a pastor includes Grammy, Stellar and Dove Award nominations. His pre-pandemic schedule entailed over one hundred appearances a year. Although Mel did not contract Covid-19, the results of the pandemic were huge for him. He was just celebrating his latest album, Magnificent, which featured the late Rance Allen and finished number two on the year end Billboard Contemporary Jazz chart for 2019. The sudden termination of his aggressive travel schedule was out of his control, creating a high level of stress and fear, and he could not clearly envision his next moves. 2 Timothy 1:17 became a powerful reality: "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." Having read the passage a thousand times before, it took on a new meaning and an intimate personal connection. "Fear family" members include stress, anxiety, tension and worry. Allowing these factors to govern one's mental and spiritual space will never offer positive results. On the other hand, "love family" members are patience, long-suffering, meekness and perseverance. It was from this playbook that Mel redirected his passion for ministry and music. He realized during social distancing that his unforeseen detour could spark a new innovative fire. He discovered his true strength was not simply in his musical gifts, but in his ability to be persistent, tenacious and intentional. As he traveled a new road, he encountered new scenery and new ideas that inspired change. One result was the song, "That's Grace," which he co-authored with Thurston O'Neal. This song captured the reality of the world crisis with personal witness of God's hand of protection. Tony McClendon, the lead singer on this track, lost a family member to COVID-19 while recording the song, which made it more personal and heartfelt. (Experience it on YouTube by searching "That's Grace Covid 19 Edition.") Living in NYC, right in the center of the pandemic, Mel witnessed firsthand all the ramifications that ushered the world into a new normal. This inspired him to author his latest book titled, "The New Normal," a handbook for navigating through the pandemic and the current world order.

Holland, Nathan Best, Glacia Robinson Tanesha Gary, Barbara Clark, Gary Anglin, Veronica Day, Nikki Barry, Tony McClendon, Eric Taylor and musicians and singers from Brazil, Cuba, Jamaica, Nigeria and Uganda. This production truly captured the spirit of Christmas as it aired on several networks in 2020. Michelle Brooks-Thompson's career was on an upward trajectory prior to the pandemic as she was a finalist on the NBC television show, The Voice (Season 3) and was the winner on the 2017 edition of "Amateur Night at the Apollo" in New York City. A native New Englander, Michelle is often invited to sing the national anthem and "God Bless America" at major sporting events for the NBA, NFL, MLS, NHL and MLB. In June 2021, she was the winner of the NCAA College Baseball World Series National Anthem singer competition. All of this came to a halt when Michelle and her entire family contracted Covid-19, and they spent a period of their lives fighting the symptoms and the negative effects. Miraculously, they all recovered, and through a connection of Michelle's manager, Carlton McConnell, the stage was set for her collaboration with Mel. In early 2021, Mel joined forces with SiriusXM radio personality Meta Washington to put together the television production, "Melodies Of Resurrection." This powerful production truly summarized the essence of the Easter season and more importantly it brought together Mel and Michelle. It started with the soulful version of "The Blood That Jesus Shed For Me." That set the groundwork for the next powerful song, "Phenomenal," which was released in February 2022. Michelle and Mel are planning multiple events to promote the release of this new single while they both look forward to upcoming album releases. Mel's new album, Phenomenal, is scheduled for release fall 2022. This project also features tracks with guest appearances by Keyla Richardson, Brooke Alford, JJ Sansaverino, Kelly Price and the debut of Mel's new artist, Craig Jermin.

Mel, now a resident of "Sheltering In Place," still felt the need to connect with his audiences despite the inability to travel physically. This gave birth to the idea of a virtual performance, and Mel teamed up with Paul The single, "Phenomenal," is now available at popular music outlets Anthony from the legendary R&B group Full Force. Together they worldwide. How To Effectively Release A Single Promotion And Distribution Tips Excerpt from an article by Chris Robley

W

hat's the most exciting thing about putting out new music? Planning the album release party? Booking a tour? Shooting a music video? Capturing great band photos? Launching a PR campaign and lining up interviews? Sure, sure. That's where all the glory is. But there's some other stuff you need to do... paperwork, basically – that is equally important when it comes to building and sustaining a life in music. Here are 10 boring things you should absolutely do before you release new music: * Register your copyrights: You own the copyright to your music the minute it's set down in a fixed format (sheet music, scribbled on a napkin, recorded, etc.). It's important to REGISTER that copyright in order to fully protect yourself in the case of infringement. You can use the Library of Congress' online portal to simultaneously protect your compositions AND sound recordings with a single form. Visit my blog to find out how. * Affiliate with a PRO: Performing Rights Organizations (or PROs) such as ASCAP and BMI will help you collect performance royalties whenever your original songs are played on the radio, in venues, etc. Get affiliated as a songwriter, and then be sure to register all of your songs with that PRO. * Seek out a publishing administration deal: A publishing administrator such as CD Baby Pro can take care of your PRO affiliation for you; we register all your songs; PLUS we collect publishing royalties that PROs don't, such as mechanical royalties for international downloads and global streaming activity. More info is available at www.cdbaby.com. * Register with SoundExchange: If you're the owner of your own sound recording, the primary artist on the recording, or a member of the band, there are additional digital performance royalties you're owed whenever your music is played on internet/satellite radio. But since it's associated with the recording and not the song, these are not considered publishing royalties, so your PRO can't collect them. That's where SoundExchange comes in. They collect that money and distribute it to labels, artists, and players. Register with SoundExchange today. * Set up worldwide distribution: Your music is ready to be heard, so you've got to get it out into the world. With CD Baby distribution, your music will be available on all the popular digital platforms (Spotify, iTunes, Pandora, Amazon, YouTube, etc.) and your CDs will be made available to over 15k record stores worldwide. Get set up with global distribution through CD Baby.

* Create a comprehensive press page on your website: If you want people to review your album, play your songs on the radio, or book you for quality shows, you'll need to have a simple place where they can get all your info: a press page! It's basically an EPK (electronic press kit) that you host on your own website. * Upload your album to SoundCloud as a private playlist: Many bloggers, journalists, talent buyers, and DJs will ask for a SoundCloud link to hear your music, particularly if you're trying to line up premieres for your songs. Of course, you don't want your music to be available to the public until the release date. So upload your album to SoundCloud, set the playlist to private, and share the private link with those contacts. * Put your songs in a sync licensing catalog: One of the best ways to make new fans and earn money from your music is through sync licensing. This is where your songs are used in conjunction with moving images (thus "synchronization"). If your song gets synced, you'll be paid for the right to use your sound recording AND your composition. And, depending on the usage, you also stand to earn performance royalties. If you want your music to be used in film, TV, commercials, video games, corporate presentations, and more – you'll need to enter your songs into a reputable sync licensing catalog. For more info about CD Baby's sync licensing program, visit www.cdbaby.com. * Submit your music to Pandora: Pandora is one of the best music discovery tools out there, so you definitely want your songs to be available on the popular radio platform. But, your music needs to be available for purchase before you can submit it to Pandora. Visit Pandora for info on how to submit music. All finished? Nice. Now you can start booking that tour. [Editor's note: Be sure to include Gospel USA Magazine in your plans when you launch your PR campaign.]

[Chris Robley is the Editor of CD Baby's DIY Musician Blog. This article was written by Chris and published in a previous issue of the DIY Musician Newsletter. This article was edited to fit into this space. To read the entire article, visit www.diymusician.cdbaby.com and search for 'album release checklist'. You can also find an archive of additional, valuable music * License your cover songs: Got any cover songs on your album? If industry tips by searching in key categories such as releasing new so, you need to secure the proper licenses to sell those songs. CD music, music promotion, music rights and much more. The Anointed Single,

Give Him The Glory

Dear Dr. Carl I need your prayers. I have been fasting and praying for change, but my breakthrough will not come. In fact, things seem to be getting worse. Nothing is going right and at night, I dream that spiders are crawling all over me. Please tell me why this is happening. – Lisa

Dear Sister Lisa: I'm not sure what dreaming about spiders means, but I do understand about being frustrated when prosperity does not come as expected. For right now, I guess it's a good idea just to thank God for today's daily bread. Then remember, that in the Matthew 5's Sermon on the Mount, Jesus tells us not to worry about tomorrow. It's also a good idea to monitor your expressions. Statements such as "breakthrough will not come," or "things seem to be getting worse" tend to solidify your position and impact your destiny. Be sure to make an effort to keep it positive whenever possible. May Blessings overtake you! – Dr. Carl Dr. Carl Bentley is an author, singer, radio show host and retired Pastor of over 34 years. How To Get Radio Airplay N

repeated commercial airplay without a major label's backing are slim to none. Much of commercial s ta t i o n ' s p l a y l i s ts a r e dictated from on high by the central corporate office.

othing can beat the instant widespread exposure that radio can offer, so it's no wonder artists are always asking, "How do I get played on the radio?" Getting your music played is still a daunting task, but with so many diversified outlets for music listening available today, artists have the ability to target a smaller, more realistically achievable niche market without having to spend big bucks on a large, corporate radio campaign.

But, if money is no object, hire a radio promoter. Radio promoters are experts who have developed relationships with DJs and have the ear of program directors across the country. Despite the high price tag (usually between $1,500$6,000 for 3-12 weeks), hiring a radio promoter still cannot guarantee you any kind of tangible results. Your chances of success are part talent, part endurance, part hype, and part luck. However, if your music is really good, you will have a better chance of getting sustained and meaningful airplay with the assistance of a well-connected radio promoter.

The term "radio" gets used in many different ways. Here is a list of all the different formats that get referenced as radio. Commercial Radio. These are the big powerful stations that line up on your AM/FM dial. Typically they are owned by large media groups and program their music playlists based off the Billboard charts. College/Non-profit Radio. Usually completely independent entities where DJ's create playlists with music they love. Community Radio. Similar to the college radio station, but with an extremely local flavor. Satellite Radio. Sirius and XM are two satellite radio providers of note. Internet Radio and Podcasts. Pandora (with an estimated 50 million users worldwide) is a standout in this bunch, but there are numerous other worthy contenders who broadcast completely online.
