publisher'smessage THE 14 INGREDIENTS NECESSARY IN ORDER TO HAVE A PERFECT COMMUNITY By Cecil L. Brown, Gospel USA Magazine Publisher

n remembrance of the recent disasters in Texas, Florida and other areas – I ask this question again: Is it possible to create and maintain a “perfect” community? I say YES – if you have sufficient capital, abundant resources, skilled & proven administrators, and the formula below. But keep in mind, a perfect community is simply a community which affords every citizen in it the fair, maximum opportunity to seek his or her own, personal, life's goals. And know this: a perfect community is NOT the same as perfect people. Here are my suggestions for the 14 ingredients.

7. Fair and affordable home ownership, rental and housing opportunities. 8. Thriving, community-supported neighborhood businesses, both small and large. 9. Attractive and safe places for outdoor and indoor recreation (parks, gymnasiums, tennis courts, movie theaters, bowling alleys, etc.). 10. Modern and effective youth mentoring and development programs for youth of all ages.

1. Quality and affordable education and career training opportunities (public and private schools, trade schools, skills centers, colleges, libraries, Internet access , technology tools, etc.).

11. Abundant opportunities for religious, cultural and social expression (churches, synagogues, social centers, concert halls, etc.).

2. Abundant employment opportunities (both full and part time).

12. Moral and trustworthy politicians, judges, local leaders, etc. who serve the residents fairly, and residents who participate in vital community activities, such as voting, volunteering, etc..

3. Streets free of crime, drugs and litter. 4. Compassionate, competent and unbiased emergency services (police, fire, medical, etc.).

13. Reliable and unexploiting media (print, radio, TV, blogs, web sites, etc.) which informs of relevant local and national developments.

5. Comprehensive life support services (such as free or affordable food, water and shelter for all in need; sewer and drainage systems; paved and maintained streets; regular garbage removal; affordable daycare services, etc.).

14. An air of community pride and spirit, which can be created by continuously showcasing successful achievers, positive role models and famous residents in the community.

6. Free or affordable health care services for all citizens (hospitals, clinics, rehabilitation centers, professional counseling services, nutrition classes, etc.).

Your comments are welcome. If you know of more ingredients which should be added to this list, e-mail or fax them to me. 7

featuring the Late Joe Ligon

oot-tapping, hand-clapping, down home, happy, feel good, gospel music are emotions invoked when describing the music of internationally-known, sixtime Stellar Award-nominated, traditional gospel quartet, Endurance. The Houston, Texas-based, multi-awardwinning group stirs up those feelings and more in their heartfelt style of musical delivery. Endurance can touch your heart with one song and make you clap your hands and shout for joy with another. Their motto is "Reaching God's People Through Song" and they are truly an expression of love and hope in Jesus Christ.

radio airways throughout the United States. The latest offering from Endurance is their sixth studio album entitled, Changed. "Changed" is also the title of the album's lead single which features the late Joe Ligon. The track is the last known recording made by Joe Ligon, who is the legendary, GRAMMY®-Award winning, former lead singer of The Mighty Clouds of Joy. Fans of the late singer will surely treasure this true collector's item. The single was released in late January 2017 and it soon entered the Top 100 on the Nielsen/BDS Gospel Radio Airplay Chart at #97. The song is still impacting radio and is going for more adds!

The members of Endurance are Claude Cummings (manager and vocalist), Michael Robertson (primary lead vocalist), Earl Sampson (vocalist), and former member the late Dave Botts, who passed away in May 2017. Two new members, Wallace Grant II and Sean Webb, have stepped up to the microphone taking on vocal duties left vacant by Dave Botts and Earl Sampson, who is temporarily on medical leave. Each member has the ability to lead and assumes that role at different times.

Another hot, fast-rising song from the album is the track entitled, "God Is Making A Change." This song is sure to make listeners move to the beat. Listen to "Changed" (at track #4) and "God Is Making A Change" (at track #8) on Gospel USA Magazine's Compilation CD Volume 23 – found in this issue. Endurance's music is available on SCCME Records and can be purchased at all major digital stores including iTunes, Amazon, CDbaby, Spotify, Google Play and others. Follow the group on Facebook, Twitter and other popular social outlets. Just search for Music By Endurance.

Endurance's previously most popular project was released in 2012 and is entitled Right On Time. The song, "Right On Time," features Andre Tate of The Williams Brothers and is not only the title track of the CD, but also the group's most successful single to date in terms of radio spins and record sales. Another single that stands out is the stirring, "That's What Jesus Did" – which has increasingly gained popularity with audiences. Another fan favorite is, "Thank You Lord For Mama" – an endearing ballad penned by Spanky Williams which pays tribute to mothers in true quartet fashion. "Ain't God Good" and "Old Fashion Church" have also impacted

oc McKenzie & The Hi-Lites have been giving God praise in a message through song for fiftytwo (52) years!! Some would say 52 years is a lot of years ... a long time to be singing. But oh no. They are just getting started! From the first note, Doc McKenzie has allowed God to elevate him higher and higher. And it is evident not only through the songs he sings, but also through the words he conveys to the people of God on every stage. It is truly a wonder what the Lord has done to him, through him and for him. An intricate part of Doc McKenzie's life and music ministry has been the forming of The Hi-Lites. Doc McKenzie &The Hi-Lites have been through many transitions of background vocalists as well as musicians. But now, God has put in place whom He wanted to be in place. The members of the legendary, Stellar Awardwinning quartet are Darryl Henley (background vocals and lead guitarist), Rodney "Roc" Dickerson, Joe Turner, Mario McClam and of course the Doctor himself. They, along with their awesome musicians, deliver a sound that will soothe your soul and warm your heart! Their latest single is entitled, "Come Aboard." "Come Aboard" is climbing the radio charts and available everywhere including digital providers such as Apple Music, Amazon, iTunes and Google Play. For more information, visit

he number "10" is stamped with spiritual power. Its meaning, divine order and harmony is the message threaded throughout Ricky Dillard & New G's latest body of work, intentionally titled – 10. As a follow-up to his 2015 release, Amazing – 10 not only marks his 10th studio album, but is also a direct letter to anyone who has endeared massive trials and is in need of a boosting pep talk in order to embrace the light awaiting on the other side. With 10, and the release of its leading single, "I Survived It" (available on Entertainment One) – there's an urgency wrapped in being fully aware that by allowing God to be God, there is nothing He can't handle for your life and you will get through. Wrapped in 14 empowering tracks, including special appearances by BeBe Winans, Tina Campbell, Karen Clark Sheard and more – 10 delivers a balanced record that offers the known feel and sound of a Ricky Dillard project, but also welcomes new listeners to help push the Word of Jesus. Dillard formed New G (also known as the New Generation Chorale) in 1988 and released their debut project, Promise, in 1991. Eight albums followed... along with numerous award wins and two GRAMMY® nominations. For more information about the music of Ricky Dillard & New G, visit

Al Allen Angels INC. His Soulful CDs are available

iami, Florida-based singing sensation Al "Baby Al" Allen has an electrifying, familiar-sounding voice! He attained local and regional popularity early in his career as he performed at popular clubs, lounges, hotels and concert stages locally and out of town. Deborah Grantham is a gifted gospel singer/ songwriter from Norristown, Pennsylvania. Deborah started singing as a child in church at about age six and hasn't stopped since! Deborah credits her love of gospel music and music in general to her parents, the late John and Grace Grantham. As a member of several bands in her youth, Deborah was content singing the soulful sounds of the popular R&B groups that were prominent at the time – jazz being her favorite genre. Then the Lord stepped in and directed her to sing praise and worship songs and Deborah was obedient. Her debut CD is entitled, "You're All I Need." The beautiful collection of songs on this CD are a mellow mixture of praise and worship with a touch of jazz. We invite you to listen to samples and purchase Deborah's music at or Visit for more information. For product service and booking information, call 610-724-2400.

Procedure for critiquing products: A score of 1 to 10 points are awarded in each of ten ratings categories (sound quality, vocal ability, musicianship, CD cover design, packaging, etc.). The points are totaled and the 30 songs which receive the most points are listed numerically on the chart. askdr. carl Dr. Carl answers your questions Dear Dr. Carl: Why Do People Always Look At Me Like I'm A Thug Whenever I Go Into The Supermarket? – Perceived Thug Dear Perceived Thug: I am assuming that your interpretation is the standard one, which defines thug as a criminally inclined person and not Tupac’s suggestion that a thug is just one who is going through struggles. Immediately, I might ask, “Who told you that you were a thug?” Did somebody in the store actually say this? When God made His creation, He said, “That’s good.” In fact, on the sixth day, God said, “That’s VERY good.” If God sees you as good, but you feel like you are being accused of something, even though no one has actually said anything of the sort, you could be hearing messages from the accuser of the brethren (the devil). Sometimes the devil tells us untrue things about ourselves that we could project onto others. In other words, it’s all in your head. The solution is to see yourself as the righteousness of God, created in innocence and holiness. When the devil brings you negative thoughts about yourself, put him under your feet. Fill your mind and your mouth with Scripture. Say those things about yourself that God says about you. Psalm 8 is a good start, where we are told that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. More about this topic next time. – Dr. Carl
