maternal grandfather gave to my grandma and a necklace with a diamond from one of my paternal grandmother’s rings,” Ashleigh explained. “By having their jewellery in my bouquet, I had pieces of them with me that day.” Prior to the ceremony, Ashleigh and her mother dressed in their wedding outfits to give the bride’s father an emotional ‘first look’. Her father’s look of delighted surprise became a favourite part of the bride’s wedding day. The couple’s fondest memory was born when the officiant called them husband and wife for the first time. However, they also enjoyed seeing their little ring bearer drive off from the ceremony in a Power Wheels Corvette that was a replica of the groom’s vehicle. “He was as good a driver for a 2 ½ year old as he could be,” laughed Ashleigh. With Winter Wonderland as her theme, the bride chose a colour scheme of white and silver with touches of navy blue. After meeting with Casino event coordinators Rowie Jacobs, Patti Molnar and Melanie Montroy, the couple knew their wedding would be in good hands. “ I can’t say enough about the crew at the Casino,” said Ashleigh. “Any request we had, even at the last minute, was facilitated without a hitch.” A delicious plated meal of chicken supreme or prime rib was punctuated by memorable speeches from both sets of parents, siblings and friends. Later in the evening, guests could choose from snacks of sliders and poutine. “I loved the speeches,” said Ashleigh. “They were funny and emotional – everything you would want them to be. But I also loved our first dance and the dance with my Dad. The photo booth was a riot and we got to keep a copy of all the photos. During the evening, a friend went around with a tray of glow sticks and glow-in-the-dark jewellery for the guests. It was so nice that a friend went out of their way to surprise us and take it to the next level.” The first dance for the bride and groom was to “Give It All We Got Tonight” by George Strait. That song was a sentimental choice by the newlyweds. Years before they were engaged, Jeff said it would be a great song for a first dance when the time came. That prediction proved to be true. The couple set up a lounge area near the bar with comfortable couches for their guests to enjoy a break from dancing to socialize or to get reacquainted with people they had not seen for a while. After a break, the party was waiting for them. “The DJ kept everything up beat and fun to ensure everyone had a great time,” said Ashleigh. “We truly wanted our wedding to be a party that everyone could enjoy and come out saying ‘we danced all night’. That is absolutely what happened.”
