After exchanging vows on June 20, 2015 at Pioneer Memorial United Church in Hillside, Ontario, Ashleigh Wilson and Braden Hill did something few brides and grooms can do as part of their wedding ceremony.

he couple signed a Bible that has been in the Hill family since the 1800s when Braden’s great-great grandfather and pioneer Reverend Robert Norton bought land and built the church. Their signatures joined those written by Braden’s parents on their wedding day, and the original signatures written in charcoal by pioneers. Until recently, the Hill family also owned the century Hillside Barn property across the road where the newlyweds danced the night away with their 80 jubilant guests. With assistance from Lucy Myers of Lucy Myers Events in Huntsville, the large restored barn became a rustically chic setting for the evening’s festivities. “Lucy was fantastic!” said Ashleigh. “We had a rustic decor baseline and wanted to put romantic elegance into it. with gold flatware, crystal stemware and pearl place mats. Behind the head table, a gorgeous drapery backdrop with chandeliers and florals made a nice contrast to the natural wood of the barn. At the church, we kept decorations simple with flowers at the front and down the aisle on the pews. Beautiful stained glass was behind us during the ceremony. We wanted people to focus on the historical and family history aspects of the church.” While growing up in Huntsville, Ashleigh and Braden had the same group of friends. Although they had an unspoken connection during the years, it wasn’t until 2011 that the time was right for the couple to start dating.
