On August 30, 2015, Krystal Long and Andrew Kurtz were fishing on Lake Isabella at the Long family’s cottage near Parry Sound.

T

he couple, who met while attending post-secondary schools in North Bay in 2008, decided to park the boat and go for a walk down a river to find another fishing spot. Reaching a place where old railway ties from historic logging days lay across the river, Andrew took an engagement ring out of his fishing backpack, placed one knee on the ties and proposed to his love. After researching venues in the Parry Sound area, the Grand Tappattoo Resort stood out. The resort had everything needed for their July 23, 2016 wedding. Forest dotted the beautiful property, the beach on Otter Lake was perfect for their wedding ceremony, and there was ample accommodation for the groom’s family who lives in the Guelph area. A marquee tent could be set up near the beach for their reception. For the reception tents décor, Krystal chose a fresh, clean and bright look with white chairs and table linens. Two antique chandeliers and twinkling strands of light bulbs illuminated the tent. Family and friends came together to help the couple with the rest of the décor. Barb Kurtz, Krystal’s mother-in-law, made all of the beautiful bouquets, corsages and boutonnieres, adding a little fishing lure to the groom’s boutonniere for his love of fishing. Krystal’s father helped the couple collect aged wood from a collapsed barn to fashion centrepiece boxes filled with dried hydrangea. On each table, mason jars cradled softly burning candles anchored in sand from the surrounding area. Clear gems spread on the tabletops added sparkle. Birch bark strip napkin rings were cut by Krystal and inscribed by her Mom with the couple’s name and wedding date, held together by a rope heart made by the groom. Guests received an advice card on which to give the newlyweds their best or silliest marriage advice.
