You get a good feeling about a wedding where an uneven number of bridesmaids to groomsmen is levelled by the addition of the bride and groom’s beloved dog.

hus it was that Lucy became flower dog at the wedding ceremony of Lauren Zaroksi and Michael Thorn on May 21, 2016. Appropriately, the collie/shepherd’s collar sported the same flowers carried by the bridesmaids. “Mike was very unsure about the whole idea of having a dog in our wedding,” said Lauren who met her future husband in 2008 at a mutual friend’s house in Barrie. “I told him she’s our furry baby - we must have her. It worked out. A groomsman offered to walk Lucy down the aisle. Plus, Lucy is calm and doesn’t bark.”  Lauren and Michael’s wedding ceremony and reception took place at the Best Western Plus Mariposa Inn and Conference Centre in Orillia. The couple chose the venue for its fantastic wedding coordinator, reasonable price that included extras like linens and centrepieces, and charming outdoor space for their ceremony.  “It actually snowed the weekend before the wedding, but on our wedding day it was 23C and beautiful,” said Lauren.  Lucy and the seven human members of the

wedding party walked down the aisle before the bride appeared to the beautiful song “Take My Hand” by Emily Hackett.  Lauren and Michael exchanged vows in a gazebo festooned with flowers and hanging baskets. They greeted their 100 guests as joyful newlyweds, walking back down the aisle to “Best Day of My Life” by American Authors.  At the indoor reception, graceful centrepieces of tall vases holding tinted water and a floating candle adorned the dining tables. Each table was marked with silver glitter wooden numbers on a black base created by Michael. The meal at the reception, a delicious buffet, was the subject of some prewedding conversation.  “Mike wanted a plated meal because he thought we should be served on our wedding day,” Lauren recounted. “I wanted a buffet because we have big eaters in our family. Mike’s brother, Cam Thorn, plays football for the Calgary Stampeders. He eats a lot, whereas my grandma only eats a little. Mike was not keen on the buffet idea for the longest time.
