Though clarinets brought Laura Farmer and Erik VanderDuim together initially, it was love that composed their journey to a summer wedding on August 29, 2015.

n the fall of 2007, Laura played clarinet in an ensemble at her church. Fellow clarinettist Erik joined because his elementary school music teacher was the group’s director. Sitting beside each other, the musicians struck up a friendship and started dating in May 2008. By July of 2014, Erik was planning to propose to his love. “I was in the military and posted in Edmonton and Laura was still in school,” recalls Erik. “One Saturday morning, I caught the red eye flight to Toronto and surprised Laura at her 48 Wedding trends 2017

college graduation in London. Her Dad picked me up and we both went. I surprised her with a proposal at her house that night and flew back to Edmonton Sunday morning. Her Dad only knew I was going to surprise Laura at her graduation, so on the way to London I told him my plans.” After graduation, Laura moved to Edmonton to be with Erik who was working there.
