The couple’s wedding ceremony was conducted in front of guests and their nine member wedding party on the grass beside the tented riding ring. The unconventional setting reflected the bride and groom’s wish to have an untraditional wedding. “We wanted to keep the ceremony short,” explained Ashlee. “Even at the reception, we didn’t do a lot of speeches. We just wanted our wedding to be a big party and not too fussy.” Guests enjoyed a summery meal of chicken or pork with salad and vegetables. Late evening snacks included cupcakes and pizza delivered from Schomberg with gluten-free slices for the bride. After dinner, the party got into full swing with the DJ’s eclectic mix of dance tunes from different eras that got everyone up on the dance floor. “Our first dance was ‘Johnny and June’ by Heidi Newfield,” said Ashlee. “Matt danced with his mother to ‘My Wish’ by Rascal Flatts, 44 Wedding trends 2017

and I danced with my father to ‘Dance With My Daughter ‘by Jason Blaine. The father-daughter dance was emotional for me. My Dad watched me ride in the ring all the time. I had the highlights of my riding career in that ring with him. I’m not an emotional person, but I bawled. Now, I will always have that memory when I’m riding in the ring.” A donation to Whispering Hearts Horse Rescue was chosen by the bride and groom as their guests’ table favours. It was a gift from a horse lover to horses in need of help. The newlyweds flew off for a honeymoon in Bahamas, a journey that marked their first trip together. During warm days by the ocean, Ashlee and Matt reflected on the fun of celebrating with family and friends on their wedding day, and looked forward to the coming years.
