Trends While the wedding cake is here to stay, white-on-white designs are not. Couples are choosing personalized patterns, from metallic icing, ruffled designs, “painted” fondant, to no icing at all to make their cake a match for their overall theme.

Icing Fondant has been a favourite for what seems like forever, but more brides and grooms are choosing icing and frosting instead. Many couples are also enjoying the “naked cake” phenomenon, where icing sugar and berries are used for decoration instead of frosting or fondant. Colour Yvonne Zenser, the owner of The Cake Box, says cakes are mostly moving towards neutral tones like blush, cream, and ivory. Yvonne recommends consulting with your baker to discuss colour palettes and working with the florist and decorator. Dessert Table Dessert tables are still a growing trend, as they offer guests a variety of options to satisfy their sweet tooth. Cake pops, rice krispie pops, macarons, brownies, meringues, and cookies are all top picks for couples looking to complement their wedding cake. Cake Toppers “Cake toppers are not as popular in the traditional sense,” says Yvonne. Instead of the classical bride and groom, couples are opting for typography based toppers that spell words like “love” or “sweet.”
