Oliver Pierce Assistant AD/ Sports Information Director Oliver Pierce is in his 22nd year as Assistant Athletic Director/Sports Information Director for Gonzaga University. Pierce joined the Bulldogs in 1989 and is responsible for the overall operations of the sports information office, including Gonzaga’s combined 22 post-season appearances involving the sports of men’s basketball, women’s basketball, volleyball, men’s soccer and baseball. During his Gonzaga tenure he has toured the Soviet Union’s Georgia Republic with the Bulldog baseball team on a 10-day goodwill trip in 1989; served as media relations director for the 1989-91 Pacific-10 Conference North Baseball Tournament; directed media relations efforts for the 1992 USA Women’s Olympic Basketball Team during its one-week training session held at Gonzaga, and was editor of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association monthly newsletter from 1991-94. A native of Spokane where he was a 1971 graduate of Lewis and Clark High, he also served as the assistant SID at his alma mater of Washington State University from 1977-85. While at WSU he assisted with the 1982 and 1984 NCAA First and Second Round Men’s Basketball Tournament hosted by the Cougars and was the SID for the Pacific-10 Conference North All-Star baseball team that participated in the Honkbal (Baseball) Tournament in Haarlem, The Netherlands, in the summer of 1984. Pierce is a member of the College Sports Information Director’s of America, the United States Basketball Writer’s Association and a previous member of the National Collegiate Baseball Writer’s Association. He is also active with American Legion Baseball. He served on the Awards Committee for the West Coast Conference and is a former chairman of the WCC Sports Information Directors. He married Maribeth Frazier in May 2001.

Liz Smith Assistant Sports Information Director Liz Smith is in her fourth year as the Assistant Sports Information Director at Gonzaga University. She is the primary contact for women’s basketball, men’s and women’s crew and volleyball in addition to producing all of the department’s media guides and game programs. A 2001 graduate of the University of Wisconsin- Parkside, Smith had previously worked as an assistant sports information director at Longwood University (Va.), a graduate assistant at Robert Morris University (Pa.) and an intern at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (Pa.) prior to coming to Gonzaga. She received a master’s of science degree in sport management from Robert Morris in 2004. While attending Wisconsin-Parkside, Smith was a four-year member of the women’s soccer team.

BOBBY ALWORTH Graduate Intern/ Sports Information Bobby Alworth enters his second year as the sports information graduate intern at Gonzaga University in 2008-09. Alworth serves as the primary contact for baseball, women’s soccer and men’s and women’s tennis. A 2006 graduate of California Baptist University, Alworth previously worked in the media relations office at the University of California, Riverside. He worked as an intern for a year before taking on the role of Assistant Director for seven months. Alworth was a three-year member of the California Baptist baseball team, earning a scholar-athlete award in 2006.
