MEDIA ANNOUNCEMENT 21 November 2011 FOSTERVILLE GOLD MINE SUPPORTS LOCAL COMMUNTY GROUPS On Saturday 19th November the Fosterville Gold Mine opened its gates to the public for its Annual Mine Open Day and as part of the day the Company also awarded its latest round of Community Grants. Seven community groups were successful in applying for funds and received their grants from General Manager Ian Holland. Among the community groups to receive funding were the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard – VF5 Lake Eppalock to upgrade equipment on their rescue vessel. Two Goornong groups received funding; the Goornong Recreation Reserve Committee and the Goornong Cemetery Trust- both to upgrade equipment. The Axedale Primary School received funding to complete work on the entrance to the new school buildings. Other groups to receive grants were: The Rotary Club of Bendigo South to support a midnight basketball program for youth, which is run in conjunction with Victoria Police; Central Victorian Community Broadcasting – Phoenix FM for a new outside broadcast trailer and the Bendigo branch of Field and Game for equipment. The Annual Mine Open Day continues to be a huge success, despite the rainy weather on Saturday. More than 330 visitors took the opportunity to tour the mine site.
