The Panama Canal Partial Transit tour begins at the north end of the Gaillard Cut, where the Chagres River flows into the canal, and continues to the Pedro Miguel Locks and Miraflores Lake. Palo Verde National Park is a wildlife refuge located between the Tempisque and Bebedero Rivers and is the largest wetlands area in Costa Rica. Its name comes from the “palo verde” plant. In English it’s known as horse bean, but its name literally means “green stick.” After boarding a boat, we will travel upriver to admire the natural beauty of this park, including wildlife like huge crocodiles resting under the sun and groups of monkeys moving quickly between the branches.

The colonial city of Granada, Nicaragua was founded by Spanish conquistador Francisco Hernandez de Cordoba in 1524. See colonial buildings and churches alternating between the Baroque and Renaissance styles. Visit Lake Nicaragua for a boat ride to the islets. Lunch at a colonial restaurant, a city tour of Granada, and Masaya shops will make your trip an unforgettable experience. After an enriching cultural experience, we return to Costa Rica in the afternoon.
