You trust a mechanic with your car. An accountant with your taxes. A doctor with your health. Why not trust a travel agent with your vacation? Like all industry professionals, a travel agent works for you. Without the hassle of searching, clicking, and researching, let them create more than a vacation – an experience. MYTH #1: It’s really, really expensive to use a travel agent! FALSE! It’s actually cheaper. A recent study indicates, on average, you save $452 per trip (ASTA). Also, many agents won’t charge you extra fees; they’ll receive their commissions from hotels or wholesalers they work with. They also offer exclusive vacation packages and can even get you into popular hotels in rooms that are reserved for travelers specifically using a travel agent. It’s like having an exclusive experience, but for a cheaper price. Plus, travel agents also provide access to exclusive vacation packages, deals and perks, while also making special arrangements, like birthday and honeymoon celebrations. And travel agents provide the best in travel insurance, helping to navigate plans, so you receive the one that’s best for you and your travel companions.

MYTH #2: I can book the same trip online for cheaper and in less time than if I use a travel agent. FALSE! A travel agent creates the ultimate convenience, saving you endless time researching online. They will plan the whole trip from start to finish, saving you on average 4 hours of travel planning.* You’ll also enjoy a personalized experience. Your travel agent customizes your vacation package with your preferences and budget in mind with first-hand knowledge and expertise that no search engine can give.

MYTH # 3: I can only book my vacation with a travel agent at their agency. FALSE! A travel agent is available for you in shop or via phone, online chat, and email. Travel agents are connected, giving you access to their deals, expertise, and recommendations on social media. So contact your local agent however you wish, enjoyable conversation about the wonderful topic of travel, and that’s it! They’ll do the rest for you – create seamless itineraries and help you enjoy the world carefree.

MYTH #4: A travel agent’s job is done once they book my vacation. FALSE! A travel agent works for you throughout your vacation. They are a lifesaver – there for you 24/7, ensuring your traveling experience is better than if you booked it yourself. Instead of spending hours on the phone with airlines and resorts, travel agents take care of any unforeseen issues that arise on your vacation – rebooking during a weather-related event, flight cancellations, issues with accommodations, etc. Plus, you’ll arrive like royalty at your hotel – an ambassador and advocate right behind you: your trusty travel agent.

Why spend time clicking from website to website when you can have an expert plan your vacation from start to finish? Let a travel agent handle all the details of your trip, so you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the world.

*Stats/surveys that debunk travel agent myths from ASTA.

It’s time to bid a fond farewell to 2017, but don’t unpack your suitcase just yet. While you’ll always cherish the travels you’ve had over the past twelve months, get excited – a fresh new year full of adventure awaits. To give you some inspiration, we’ve gathered a diverse list of destinations that’ll set your wandering heart aflutter. From up-and-comers to tried-and-true favorites, these are our picks for 2018.

Portugal The travel world is abuzz with talk of Portugal – and for good reason. While we’ve always been big fans, this small yet magical country is slowly but surely being revered as Europe’s new ‘it’ destination. Lisbon’s enchanting hills captivate at every peak with culinary delights, gothic beauty, and vibrant nightlife. Nearby Sintra’s enchanting castles, romantic gardens, and green vistas are so fairytale-esque, it’s easy to see why this now UNESCO World Heritage Site was a favorite summer haunt for royals. Lesser-known Coimbra is Medieval and magical – its University was supposedly J.K. Rowling’s inspiration for Hogwarts. Portugal’s southern coast has coves and beaches perfect for long days in the sun. Best of all, Portugal is still relatively cheap in comparison to Europe’s other tourism powerhouses.

Japan As the location for the 2020 Summer Olympics, Japan is sure to see an increase in tourism and many changes as it prepares over the next few years. We suggest you see it now, before the rush. The pulsing streets of Tokyo are a sight to behold, with its many neighborhoods, endless neon glow, and whimsical cafes and shopping. Outside of this modern metropolis, you’ll find centuries of tradition in cities like Kyoto. Japan’s cultural beauty is complimented by its stunning natural features, from snowcapped mountains in the north to tropical islands in the south. Let’s not forget this country is known for its fresh, delicious food. Just like acclaimed chef Jiro Ono, we’re dreaming of sushi.

Northern Ireland A notable home for giants from both myth and reality, the Emerald Isle’s legendary northern region is well worth exploring in the upcoming year. Belfast has transcended from its troubled past to a welcoming, modern city with a rich history. Along with enjoying its renowned restaurant and music scenes, be sure to pay homage to the massively famous Titanic at its dedicated museum, which stands in the very shipyard where she was built. To the west of Belfast you’ll find youthful Londonderry – also known simply as Derry. In between the two cities lies the Giant’s Causeway, a coast composed of stacked hexagonal volcanic rocks once thought to be the beginnings of a bridge built by giant and warrior Finn MacCool. Whiskey lovers must stop at the famous Bushmills Distillery, and Game of Thrones fans can visit the show’s many filming sites in the area.

Puerto Vallarta History and culture, or beautiful beaches? Why sacrifice one for the other when you can have it all? This colonial city on the Pacific Coast of Mexico claims to be the friendliest in the world, and those who have visited certainly agree. The culture here is surprisingly diverse thanks to the expats, retirees, immigrants, and locals who call this area home. It’s created a refreshingly welcoming aura for people of all beliefs, orientations, and backgrounds. Even though you’ll never be left wanting when staying at the all-inclusive resorts lining the golden beaches, we insist you step out into the bustling, cobblestone streets of Old Vallarta to grab a bite in its quaint cafés, shop in the many boutiques, and marvel at its iconic bell tower. And an evening dancing to live music along the eclectic El Malecon is definitely a must.

Fiji Picture-perfect Fiji is a tropical retreat that seems to have manifested right out of our dreams. If there was ever a place to spoil yourself, this is it. Go big and book a room with the ultimate view. Overwater bungalows are the epitome of opulence, and often feature relaxing verandahs, a glass floor for underwater viewing, and direct entrance to an enchanting lagoon. The lux doesn’t stop there. Most resorts have a spa of the utmost pampering, and scrumptious restaurants serving local delicacies made from fresh ingredients like coconut, seafood, and tropical fruits. If you can, pull yourself out of your relaxed state to enjoy Fiji’s regional spoils, such as natural adventures like diving the surrounding reefs and hiking to refreshing waterfalls. Fiji’s people are among the most welcoming in the world, so take the time to get to know them and their beautiful culture. Vanua Levu, Fiji’s second largest island, is the perfect spot to explore traditional villages.

Germany Deutschland is where an innovative mindset blends seamlessly with medieval magic. It’s where landscapes leave you breathless, and culinary delights wrap you up in comfort you never knew you needed. From notable natives like Albert Einstein to world-changing inventions like the printing press to its famous yet ominous folklore like the collection from the Brothers Grimm, the land of beer and brats has reason to be prideful. Check a big item off your wanderlist and visit Munich over Oktoberfest. Delve deep into Berlin’s history, arts, and stranger side at sites like the Berlin Wall, Hamburger Bahnhof Contemporary Art Museum, and the MonsterKabinett, a sculpture gallery that’s part theatrical performance, part haunted house. The Black Forest has inspired some of our favorite and most gruesome fairytales, and its bewitching beauty and quaint villages beg to be explored.

Chile Appreciating the environment has never been more prudent than now, and nature lovers will discover Chile is their idea of paradise. What the country lacks in width, it more than makes up for in diverse landscapes and eco-thrills. Take time to hike in Torres del Pain, Patagonia. Take a walk in the world’s oldest, driest desert, the Atacama. Ride on horseback through the Andes Mountains, and ski the snowy peaks of Valle Nevado. When it’s time for a well-deserved breather, sip on some of the best wines in the world in the country’s Central Valley Region. If you also consider yourself an urban explorer, fret not. Chile’s capital Santiago is well worth a visit, and its barrios – neighborhoods – boast their own personalities. Bellavista is home to the best nightlife; Bellas Artes and Lastarria are the fashion hubs, and Parque Bustamante is the perfect place to people watch at its many cafes.

Barbados The Caribbean is always in style, so this year, head to an island with a culture that’s as vibrant as its bright turquoise seas. The island is well-known for its fantastic powder beaches and boasts a variety of both all-inclusive and well-appointed resorts to choose from. But no matter what type of abode you choose as your home-away-from-home, be sure to head off property in search of lively celebrations, a historic capital, and friendly people. Bridgetown is a dedicated UNESCO World Heritage Site with a tropical colonial style influenced by its British past. Head to Ostins Fish Fry on a Friday night and dig into a feast of grilled fish and shellfish, BBQ, macaroni pie, and breadfruit. Then, work off your meal with the locals dancing to beats spun by live DJs and bands.

The upcoming 12 months are a blank slate ready to be filled with new adventures, so make 2018 your best travel year yet with a journey to one of these favored destinations.

5 Caribbean Experiences THAT NEED TO BE ON YOUR WANDERLIST There’s more to the Caribbean than those perfect beaches – although they are one of our favorite features. These islands are home to vibrant cultures, rare wildlife, and exciting eco-thrills. Go beyond the beach on your next island getaway and make it truly brag-worthy by adding these enriching experiences to your vacation. BICYCLE ADVENTURE IN THE BLUE MOUNTAINS Jamaica is renowned as the home of jerk chicken, celebratory beach getaways, and Bob Marley, but the heart and soul of this country is found in the slopes of its forest-covered mountains. Immerse yourself in tropical nature high above the world and see a side of Jamaica that very few even know exists when you bicycle down the majestic Blue Mountains, the longest mountain range in Jamaica. Home to world-famous coffee, this soaring landscape offers panoramic views of mist-covered peaks and pristine emerald valleys. Learn about the indigenous herbs and plants that seem to grow everywhere you look; see coffee plantations, with their bean-clad plants clinging to the mountainsides. Take a cool dip under a crystal clear waterfall and bask in the clear mountain air as you feast on a delicious Jamaican brunch. HISTORIC WALKING TOUR This unique island is a melting pot of cultures. Its Dutch influence is particularly evident in its capital city Willemstad, with its candy-colored colonial harborfront and the floating Queen Emma Bridge. Delve into Curacao’s past on this tour, which visits the Punda and Otrabanda neighborhoods, and learn about their fascinating heritage. Your guide will provide you with information about the history of these parts of the city center. The tour also includes a visit to the Maritime Museum. SANTO DOMINGO CITY TOUR The Dominican Republic is a vibrant island filled with rich culture and lively people, and a trip to its beautiful capital Santo Domingo is a must. Join an enriching and unique cultural experience in the oldest city in the Americas. Become enlightened with the history of this enchanting city by visiting its most important monuments—the Cathedral, the house of Columbus’ son, La Atarazana Street, and the Three Eyes Cave. Enjoy panoramic views of the National Palace, Plaza de la Cultura, residential areas, Malecón Avenue, and the gigantic Columbus Lighthouse.

BABY BEACH JEEP ADVENTURE Contrary to the lush jungle landscapes you might picture when imagining an island escape, Aruba’s vistas are a desert dotted with cacti and divi-divi trees – making it the perfect destination for a thrilling off-road adventure. Hop into a Jeep and visit the famed Arikok National Park and one of Aruba’s hidden treasures, the Seroe Colorado Natural Bridge. Make sure to bring a swimsuit, because after kicking up dust throughout Aruba’s outback, you’ll want to cool off in the tranquil waters of Baby Beach, known for its smooth sands and spectacular snorkeling. SPICE ISLAND TOUR In the far southeastern Caribbean lies a tiny treasure full of flavor. Grenada may have earned its nickname due to its abundance of pungent exports, but its laid-back attitude is what brings travelers here to find the spice of life. Kick off a fun-filled day at the capital of St. George’s and drive along the picturesque West Coast. Visit historic towns, the Annandale Waterfall, and Grand Etang Lake, where you’ll greet a mona monkey. Enjoy a delicious buffet lunch at the Belmont Estate and learn about the production of organic chocolate beans, part of Grenada’s superb chocolate making industry. Complete the day with beautiful views of Calivigny and Hog Island.

The beach will always be a big draw, but we encourage spending time off the sand to discover a side of the Caribbean few get a chance to experience. Enrich your next island escape with a tour that celebrates the spirit of your destination.

CARIBBEAN COCKTAILS Sip your way around the islands

Mudslide, Grand Cayman

Painkiller, the British Virgin Islands

This decadent frozen favorite was created by a happy accident. While vacationing on the largest of the Cayman Islands in the 1970’s, a traveler was visiting the Wreck Bar at Rum Point and asked for a White Russian. The bartender did not have cream but offered to mix the other traditional ingredients – vodka and Kahlua – with Bailey’s Irish Cream instead. The mixture was so delicious, it earned a permanent spot on their cocktail menu, and the recipe quickly found its way to the mainland. While you can order a Mudslide from almost any bar nowadays, there’s nothing like enjoying the original with your toes in the sand at Rum Point.

Despite being the smallest of the British Virgin Islands’ four main islands, Jost Van Dyke is accredited with a big accomplishment. In the 1970s – clearly the decade for great cocktails – bartender Daphne Henderson of the Soggy Dollar Bar mixed Pusser’s Rum with four parts pineapple juice, one part cream of coconut, and one part orange juice. Depending on how much pain you’re trying to kill – or how generous your bartender is feeling – this Painkiller can be made with two to four ounces of rum. The drink is shaken, served on the rocks, and dusted with a generous amount of nutmeg.

Dark ’N’ Stormy, Bermuda

Goombay Smash, the Bahamas

Bermuda lies significantly more north than its other Caribbean brethren, but this island off the coast of the Carolinas is still a favorite of sun seekers. Its other claim to fame comes in a highball glass. The Gosling Family began experimenting with dark rum in the 1860s, eventually creating a signature blend that would become the Gosling’s Black Seal. At the same time, the British Royal Navy started making Ginger Beer from their port. It wasn’t long before the two beverages became acquainted. It’s said that a World War I sailor commented that the color of the drink reminded him of a cloud only a fool or a dead man would sail under, thus the cocktail found its name. Today, in order to be considered a true Dark ‘N’ Stormy, the drink must be made with Gosling’s Black Seal rum.

With 700-plus islands making up the chain, the Bahamas have created quite a few tasty beverages. Miss Emily of the Blue Bee Bar on Green Turtle Cay was the drink’s original creator, but the original recipe still remains a secret since the 1960s. However, many bars and bartenders throughout the Bahamas claim to have cracked the case, and you can’t go into a Bahamian bar today without seeing it on the menu. Although many establishments create their own versions, almost everyone can agree that the main ingredients include coconut rum, dark rum, apricot brandy, and pineapple juice. You can still visit Miss Emily’s Blue Bee Bar today to try the original, but half the fun is trying this Bahamian cocktail from bartenders across the islands to find your favorite version.

Nothing goes better with sand, sun, and sea than a thirst-quenching tropical cocktail. So pull out that checklist and mark these delicious concoctions off on your next trip to the islands.

How long has it been since you hung out with your besties for a night of fun? If you’re hesitating, or trying to count on your fingers and toes, then the answer is clearly, too long. Make up for lost time, and gather the gang for an overdue friends getaway in one of these reconnect-worthy destinations.

Miami World-renowned nightlife: check. Shopping and restaurants for days: check. Miles of white sand and cerulean seas: check. Looks like Miami checks off all the items on the friends vacation must-have list. Book your stay at party-hub Fontainebleau Miami Beach or deco-chic The Confidante to be steps away from all the action in the coolest locations along the beach.

Nashville No city in America knows a good time quite like this country music mecca. If line dancing and banjos aren’t your thing, have no fear – Music City has a genre for every member of your band. Spend your days exploring noteworthy sites like the Gibson Guitar Factory, Grand Ole Opry, and the nearby Jack Daniel Distillery. Your nights will be filled with barbeque and bar hopping along the famed Music Row.

Cancun How could we not include Cancun on this list? Undisputedly the most popular destination in Mexico, Cancun draws sun seekers, history buffs, party animals, and adventure seekers alike. Reconnect with exciting activities like snorkeling, Mayan ruin exploring, and, of course, indulging in unlimited margaritas while lounging on the beach at your all-inclusive digs.

Jamaica The special bond you have with your friends deserves to be celebrated, and the Island of All Right can sure throw a good party. 12 H URS on the North Shore

If it isn’t already, Oahu’s North Shore should definitely be on your radar. It is bustling Honolulu’s opposite in more than just location. And while the Aloha State’s capital is definitely worth its fair share of exploring, the North Shore beckons with a quintessential Hawaiian charm that can’t be ignored. Easy-going seaside towns, a rainbow of flavors, and the type of swells surfers dream of all add to its allure. Thankfully, the region’s best stops can be experienced in a day, so spare any excuses and hit the road heading north.

8:00 a.m. If you haven’t already done so, grab the rental car your travel agent arranged for you. This is the perfect opportunity to treat yourself to a Jeep experience – sense of adventure included. You’ll have just an hour drive to soak up the incredible scenery along the way. 9:00 a.m. Start the morning right – with a steaming cup of joe featuring Hawaii’s famous beans. Get it to go from the Coffee Gallery in Haleiwa. This joint sources beans from all over the islands and blends them together to create heavenly brews. 9:30 a.m. Don’t deny yourself the most important meal of the day. Stop for breakfast at Haleiwa Bowls. Located right down the road from the Coffee Gallery, this palm-fringed hut serves fresh acai bowls with a variety of delicious and healthy toppings. Try the Mana Bowl, a blend of chilled acai puree covered with a layer of fresh bananas, organic granola, raw coconut flakes, and honey.

10:00 a.m. After breakfast, head into the center of town for some serious souvenir shopping. You’ll find island-made goods and tropical delights to bring to friends and family back home and to keep as a memento of your vacation. This is also the perfect time to stop by Matsumoto’s Shave Ice. Lines form out the door of this convenience store and for good reason. They serve cold scoops of this Hawaiian favorite to hundreds of visitors and locals throughout the year. You’ll have a variety of colorful syrups to decorate your shave ice and to add delicious flavors like strawberry, banana, coconut, and lychee. 11:00 a.m. Cruise north on the Kamehameha Highway towards Waimea Valley, a significant region to Hawaii’s history and culture, and filled with natural beauty. Enjoy a three-quarter-mile hike on a paved path through the lush foliage to the stunning Waimea Falls. 12:30 p.m. You’ll deserve a rest after you make the trek back from the falls. Thankfully Oahu’s second most famous beach, Waimea Bay, is right there to welcome you. In summer and spring, this cove is pure paradise and offers golden sand for lounging and calm blue waters for floating. 1:30 p.m. Your hungry tummy is sure to pull you away from the warm sand at some point. Luckily, Shark’s Cove is right nearby and is home to some of North Shore’s best food trucks. The smoky, spicy aromas wafting from Kau Kau BBQ will have your mouth watering. Grab one of their succulent pork and pineapple sliders. Tingle your taste buds with fresh Thai food from the Elephant Truck, or fill up on the garlic greatness found at the North Shore Shrimp Truck. You and your stomach will be smiling, filled with dishes, drinks, and desserts made from the island’s fresh ingredients and unique flavors.

2:30 p.m. Don’t deny yourself the opportunity to snorkel in Hawaii’s clear water. The surrounding Pacific Ocean is rich in sea life and vibrant reefs, and Shark’s Cove is the perfect place to get your fins wet. Grab some gear at one of the surrounding rental shops and jump in right from the shore. You’ll have the chance to meet some of the ocean’s famous creatures, such as parrot fish, butterfly fish, tang, eels, and sea turtles. 3:30 p.m. Continue north, making a pit stop at one of the surfing world’s most renowned swells. Just off Ehukai Beach Park in Pupukea is the Banzai Pipeline, a reef break notorious for being one of the most dangerous and exhilarating spots to surf. The waves recorded here are some of the biggest in the world, and the monstrous curls of the winter months inspire many daredevils and pro surfers to try and earn the bragging rights of having conquered these iconic curls. If this kind of adrenaline rush isn’t on your agenda, watching these pros hang ten from the safety of the shore is definitely a must-see.

6:00 p.m. The Polynesian Cultural Center also happens to be home to the most authentic luau in Hawaii, and your travel agent made sure to book you tickets to this exciting dinner show. Enjoy a luau buffet that includes tropical favorites and traditional fare, such as poi and kalua pig that was roasted in an underground oven known as an imu. 8:00 p.m. After dinner, sit back and enjoy as the entertainment continues with fire breathers, hula lessons, and a number of vibrant dances. The colors of a beautiful Hawaiian sunset mark the perfect end to an eventful day on the North Shore.

4:00 p.m. During your visit to Oahu, you’re sure to see a blend of cultures on this diverse island. But to truly understand the spirit of Hawaii, visit the Polynesian Cultural Center. This educational park features eight villages that represent the islands and peoples of the Polynesian culture, including Fiji, Samoa, Tahiti, and, of course, Hawaii. You’ll enjoy live demonstrations of traditional ways of life, along with interactive activities and shows. Try your hand at spear throwing or hula, and be sure to catch a canoe tour through the park.

Europe IN

When it’s time to start planning your family’s next great vacation, move these cities to the top of your list. Europe offers endless choices for fun, memorable getaways.

LONDON, England What better place to take the family than the land of Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter, and real princes and princesses? Let’s be honest, William and Harry truly are charming, and Cinderella doesn’t have anything on Kate. Marvel at palaces and the Crown Jewels. Reveal the magical world of the Boy Who Lived on a filming location tour. Take a spin on the London Eye, one of the world’s largest Ferris wheels. With an entertaining albeit dark past, the Tower of London is a favorite for kids with its interactive exhibits. The Changing of the Guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace definitely can’t be missed.

COPENHAGEN, Denmark Move over Disney, this city is staking its claim as the Happiest Place on Earth – and it makes a strong case. Maybe it’s the way it awakens the inner child in everyone with the world’s second oldest amusement park, Tivoli Gardens, right in the city’s center. Perhaps it’s the way it celebrates youth with family sections on its buses, parks that encourage playtime, and an entire Children’s Museum. It could be Denmark’s exciting Viking past or the city’s brightly colored streets. Whatever it is, Copenhagen’s citizens absolutely love living here, and travelers are itching to capture its blissful charms for themselves.

ROME, Italy The Eternal City has always been a fan favorite, especially with families. Time travel to Ancient Rome at the Colosseum and Roman Forum, where you’ll learn all about the Gladiators, and kids’ imaginations will run wild with epic battles, sword fights, and champions. Make a wish at the stunning Trevi Fountain, and let the little ones exhaust their energy by climbing the Spanish Steps or running around Piazza Navona. Plus, there’s no such thing as a picky eater in Rome when there’s endless pasta, pizza, and gelato to enjoy.

Everything You Need to Know About

Long favored by the backpacking community for its exotic beauty, unsurpassed experiences, and affordability, Vietnam has emerged as a a top destination for all types of travelers for all the same – and right – reasons. This country never ceases to surprise and delight even the most seasoned vagabond, so we decided to dive right in and discover exactly what makes Vietnam so magical.

CAPTIVATING CITIES Vietnam’s big cities are as enthralling as they are bustling. Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital, is an impressive mix of centuries-old history and innovative technology. You’ll find breathtaking temples nestled seamlessly amid concrete high-rises. Ho Chi Minh City is an economic powerhouse and boasts an over-the-top atmosphere of glamorous shopping centers, worldrenowned restaurants, and impressive skyscrapers. For a pleasant change of pace, visit tranquil Hoi An, the country’s third largest city and a harmonized blend of Chinese, Japanese, and Vietnamese cultures.

UNEARTHLY NATURAL BEAUTY Asia’s eco-wonders are revered around the world, and Vietnam’s landscapes and coastlines definitely boost the continent’s reputation. Ha Long Bay is one of the most visited sights in the world. Emerald peaks and cliff sides rise out Bac Bo Gulf and create an ethereal beauty that would leave even the most urban-obsessed traveler speechless. Explorers will be delighted by Son Doong Cave, where they’ll find a lush and diverse tropical jungle far within its depths. And for those postcardworthy views of layered hillside rice fields, make your home base in Sa Pa, and hike out the countryside.

IMMERSIVE MARKETS As with many cultures, the marketplace is the cornerstone of daily life in Vietnam, and a must-do for every visitor to have a true local experience. In UNESCO-listed town Hoi An you’ll find the Central Market with an eclectic and authentic variety of stalls selling everything from Asian silk to spices to fresh fish. The best time to visit is in the early morning, when locals are haggling over the first catch of the day. Hanoi’s Quang Ba Flower Market is a treat for the senses, and the vibrant colors are a photographer’s dream. For a taste of the country’s Buddhist culture, head to Binh Tay Market in Ho Chi Minh for delicious food, handmade treasures, and a glimpse at the stunning surrounding architecture.

TREATS IN THE STREETS You won’t have to break the bank to experience Vietnam’s acclaimed culinary delights, nor will you have to look far. The aforementioned markets along with stalls and vendors that line streets throughout the country are where you’ll find your new favorite flavors. Even noted TV personality, chef, and author Anthony Bourdain was so confident in Vietnam’s street offerings, he hosted President Obama at a small, family-run Pho joint during the former leader’s visit to Hanoi. You’ll want to make sure you get your fill of Banh Mi, a sandwich that dates back to the French occupation of Vietnam with a variety of ingredients stuffed inside a crusty baguette. Goi Cuon, a fresh spring roll filled with veggies and usually a small piece of meat or seafood, is great for a grab-and-go bite. If you want to channel your inner POTUS and follow Obama’s lead, order his choice Bun Cha, crispy grilled pork served with noodles and a spicy fish dipping sauce. If you’re lucky, it might also come with a side of fried crab spring rolls.

UNPREDICTABLE DELIGHTS You might be surprised to learn that Vietnam is famous for its coffee. Unlike the bold, espresso drinks favored throughout Europe, Vietnamese coffee is served with thick, sweetened condensed milk. If your latte-loving self is doubtful, we’re pretty confident you’ll be converted with just one sip. The coffee is served both hot or cold, but the iced variety seems to be the fan favorite.

A visit to this courty is enchanting and life-changing in all the best ways. From urban labyrinths and eco-amazement to local eats and sweet surprises, Vietnam’s treasures are best discovered on an adventure of your very own.
