HABERSHAM CENTRAL Looking to rebound after missing all but a handful of snaps last season and all of spring practice due to injury and illness … if healthy, could be one of the squad’s best offensive lineman and play a valuable role as a starter or a reserve. 2011: Earned the starting assignment at left guard during fall camp and was the starter for the season opener at Virginia Tech … sustained a serious ankle injury early in the opener at Va. Tech and, combined with an illness that he suffered from after the injury, did not return to action the rest of the season. 2010: Redshirted. 2010: Despite missing five games in the heart of the season due to injury, still finished 10th on the team with 45 tackles ... was one of the Mountaineers’ top tacklers through three games with 20, including a team-high eight in their season-opening 42-41 come-from-behind win at Chattanooga ... sustained a thigh injury during ASU’s win over North Carolina Central in the third week of the season and missed the next three games (at Samford, Elon, The Citadel) ... returned to starting lineup versus Western Carolina and registered four tackles but suffered a setback and was forced to miss two more games (Furman, at Georgia Southern) ... came back to action in a reserve role for the final two games of the regular season, recording two stops in SoCon title-clinching win over No. 4 Wofford and four (three solo) at Florida ... was re-inserted in the starting lineup for the postseason and responded with 15 tackles in two games — six in win over Western Illinois and nine in season-ending loss to Villanova.

nation’s top 100 in tackles (t-38th) and tackles for loss (t-83rd) … led team in tackles seven times in 11 games and notched double-digit stops five times in 11 contests … began the season with a relatively lackluster 20 tackles (two for loss) over the first three games of the campaign … after the lukewarm start to the season, turned in one of the best individual defensive performances of the year in a 14-12 win over 13th-ranked Chattanooga … amassed a team-high 11 tackles, including 2.5 for loss and two sacks, broke up two passes and returned an interception 46 yards for the game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter of the thrilling triumph … was named National Defensive Player of the Week (The Sports Network), National Linebacker of the Week (College Football Performance Awards) and Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week following the dominating performance versus UTC … downside to the effort against the Mocs came when the Southern Conference suspended Kimbrough for receiving two excessive-celebration penalties late in the ballgame, forcing him to sit out of the next week’s showdown at No. 8 Wofford … without Kimbrough in the lineup and true freshman Brandon McGowan in his place, Wofford’s triple-option attack gashed ASU for 388 rushing yards in a 28-14 setback … Kimbrough returned to the lineup the following week at The Citadel and led the team with 11 tackles in the win … turned in a stout all-around performance with nine tackles, 1.5 TFL, a sack and a 15-yard fumble return in homecoming win over Samford … highlighted a 24-17 victory over top-ranked Georgia Southern with a season-high 16 tackles, a tackle for loss and a pass break-up against the Eagles’ vaunted triple-option offense … had nine tackles in loss at Furman … made just five stops in regular-season home finale against Western Carolina but 2.5 of those were for loss, including a six-yard sack … had 12 tackles in each of the final two games of the campaign, at Elon and versus Maine … broke up a pass at the goal line on fourth-and-goal in the waning moments to preserve the 28-21 come-from-behind victory at Elon … forced a fumble in the season-ending playoff loss to Maine.

All-American returns to anchor Appalachian’s veteran defense at middle linebacker … bounced back from an injury-riddled ALLsophomore campaign to become one of the nation’s top linebackers as a junior last season … at 240 pounds, his calling ALLcard is as a rugged run-stopper, however, he has proven to be a tenacious pass-rusher and top-notch defender in pass coverage as well … will once again be counted on to be the “quarterback” of the Mountaineers’ multiple-scheme defense from his middle-linebacker position … is the only returning SoCon player that ranked among the league’s top 11 in tackles, tackles for loss and sacks last season. 2011: Earned first-team all-America recognition from College Sports Journal, secondteam honors from The Sports Network and Phil Steele Publications and honorablemention accolades from College Sporting News … named first-team all-Southern Conference’s coaches and second-team all-conference by the league’s media … ranked fifth in the SoCon with 105 tackles, eighth with 12 tackles for loss and tied for 11th with four sacks, making him one of only two players to finish among the league’s top 11 in all three categories (The Citadel’s Rod Harland being the other) … finished among the
