Gail Brigden Wedding Celebrant 23 YEARS EXPERIENCE

"We can't thank Gail Brigden enough, for making a piece of our day perfect. She made a stressful process very easy. Gail was always there to help, with any questions we had and she also had some great ideas for a lovely ceremony and we would highly recommend her for any couples looking for an experienced and professional celebrant." Daryl & Rebecca Booth 4

"I believe a great celebrant will have two qualities that separate them from the rest. They need to have passion for what they do, and they need to care about the role they play. A great celebrant makes all the difference to the success of your day, and is the facilitator, nurturing ideas and encouraging couples, so together we can create a ceremony that accurately depicts you and your love for each other – call for free quote and info." From the Editor

Welcome to the Central Coast November is my month to celebrate as it is birthday time and this year is my 73rd. In my head and heart I am still in my forties, so happy Birthday to all Sagittarians, may you feel as good about life as I do. We have a lot happening on The Central Coast so get out your marker and start planning. Deborah Buckley and her talented family have restored the Yarramalong Manor. Now named Angel Sussuri, it has been turned into the most beautiful destination again. See pages 14 and 15 for more information, I am so looking forward to seeing you there. Coast and Valleys Vets have settled in to their new premises and are available to your Pets with a 24hr service. This is so comforting to know especially as like mine they are getting on a bit in years. See page 16 for information and phone numbers.

The Biggy in this issue is The Christmas Fair at Mt. Penang Gardens on Sun Dec 3rd, now in its 10th Year. 150 quality stalls will keep you busy most of the day, there is a lot to excite you here believe you me. Bring your money with you. The Restaurant Review is with The Austrian Schnitzelhaus, a family favourite on page 48. Bring your appetite with you to this one, especially if you love Schnitzel. Last night on the news there was a story on how people are embracing wearable health devices; on page 55 we introduce you to the very best of them. I wear mine to keep an eye on my blood pressure as it can drop dramatically; it also has many functions the others do not. It could save your life. Another favourite thing to do is to see the Fireflies at The Forest of Tranquillity, which is a magic sight. First we enjoy a High Tea, then we walk through a most wonderful experience. See page 37 and do take the whole family to enjoy this one. There are Fairies in the Forest. May I wish you all a very happy, healthy Christmas. Till next year enjoy every day.

by Wyong Drama Group “I will say zis only once … “ Café owner René juggles a menagerie including irrepressible, tone-deaf chanteuse wife Edith, waitresses Yvette Carte-Blanche and Mimi Labonq, smitten German Officer Grüber, Herr Flick of the Gestapo, “It is I… Leclerc”, Police Officer Crabtree (“good moaning!”) and many more. There will be laughter and music, skulduggery and magic and a cabaret for all to savour and enjoy. November brings to The Art House the classic British comedy ’Allo ‘Allo! By Jeremy Lloyd and David Croft. Directors Howard Oxley and Duncan Mitchell are making it a "Night out in World War II". As we did last year, we are teaming with the Fab Fakes Art Exhibition hoping to attract elite audience from all over the Coast. Arrive early for the music of the War era and enjoy the art exhibition, then enter the world of madcap humour with our café proprietor as he tries to fool not only the Germans,

but the Gestapo, the French Resistance and of course his beautiful songstress of a wife Edith. Playing René is Howard Oxley, (well known for all his Basil Fawlty episodes) a veteran comic, with his wife Edith, Ruth Jordon. These two have been doing plays together in Wyong since 1984! With Duncan Mitchell (Herr Flick) and Marc Calwell (Gruber), also veterans of the group, and a host of others, the cast has depth and quality guaranteed to please any audience. Our aim at Wyong Drama Group is to provide reasonably priced entertainment for our community against rising fees at The Art House in an area crying out for live theatre but constrained by the rising costs. If we “fill the house” we can do it! So please come and enjoy our show and help us continue the 65 year tradition of Wyong Drama Group providing great live Theatre for the Coast. In the heart of the Yarramalong Valley stood a sad and lonely Manor House. It had once had a grand reputation as a place of food wine and laughter. After some time on the market, along came a passionate family with a dream. That was us. We have lived in the Valley near 20 years and had been hoping that someone would revive the Manor as it was a well needed resource to the Valley and surrounding areas. It seemed that providence had marked our family for this task. Since March this year when we purchased the manor we have been scrubbing, painting, demolishing, building, decorating, cooking and somewhere in between getting some sleep. We are now able to open the business with our Bottle Shop, CafĂŠ, Deli, Floral Artisans and Giftware, Restaurant, Beer Garden and now our beautifully appointed accommodation that we are so proud of, is ready for guests. Our Deli is stocked with cheese from Little Creek Cheese, La Tartine organic sourdough, salami and antipasto delights of a quality you can't find in supermarkets and local ethically farmed eggs. In our cafĂŠ you can enjoy a cup of Danes Coffee, with a homemade scone or cake in the afternoon or one of our all day breakfast hotpots, pancakes and selection of other lunch time specialties. Friday and Saturday evenings, our restaurant is open with Chef Renee cooking some food to tantalise your tastebuds, while choosing from our selection of boutique Australian wines or indulging from the Whisky bar and finishing your night off with a sleepover in our luxurious and quirky Manor rooms which will make you feel right at home. Our unique venue is available for private functions, intimate weddings or events. We welcome all enquiries. Phone 4356 1066.

The Carousel at The Entrance

The Carousel This historic icon has charmed and delighted young and old at The Entrance since 1930. It has seen a number of owners since its arrival in Australia from France in the early 1900s and is now part of the National Trust classified Haas Family carnival, a family that has 400 years of carnival ancestry. The carousel, which was built in the late 1800s in Germany, was originally ‘powered’ by a pony but was converted to steam at the turn of the century. It remained steam driven until the 1950s when an old chev. engine was installed, and was converted to electricity in the 1970s. Its reed pipe organ, operated by bellows, remained in commission until 1950. Music is now supplied by tape, although the organ front has been restored. The carousel has pride of place on The Entrance waterfront where it is visited by not only today’s children, but by the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents of those children.

What to See & Do The Pelican Feeding in The Entrance Memorial Park is a highlight of any visit. Daily at 3.30pm The Entrance Heritage Walk is one of the best on the Central Coast and visitors will also enjoy the Coast to Lake Walk. Vera’s Watergarden is a children’s water playground opposite the Pelican Feeding area

Have fun with us and ride the historic carousel icon of The Entrance

NEW LEADERSHIP TEAM VOTED IN On Saturday 18th August a meeting was held for all members from Marine Rescue Central Coast and Marine Rescue Terrigal, the meeting was held at the Point Clare base. This was the first official combined meeting for the two units since the announcement of the amalgamation, and was also an opportunity to vote for the leadership team of the newly amalgamated unit. Four members ran for the role of Deputy Unit Commander (two members from the Central Coast unit and two members from the Terrigal unit), Shaun Smith who is originally from the Terrigal unit was elected in what was a very close vote. Roger Palmer who is originally from the Point Clare base was appointed the position of Unit Commander (unopposed). Members also had a chance to discuss a name for the new unit, and after some discussion it was decided (by a vote) that the unit will be called Marine Rescue Central Coast, and the bases will be known as the Haven base, and the Point Clare base.

Live Theatre at Woy Woy. Dark comedy doesn’t get any blacker than this … A gnashing of teeth, a litany of abuse, a hymn of hate against, of all things, motherhood. A message that in every mother there is a Medea yearning for a chance to murder her own children and that celebrating Mother’s Day is the equivalent to honouring Caligula. “Mum’s sense of humour wafts over us like poison gas.” Like giant tentacles, her loving arms stretch out to members of her family to crush their spirit. She knows her sons’ weaknesses and plays on them maliciously. The play is conceived in cruelty and it is very, very funny. Ten performances only over three weekends from October 27 to November 12. Peninsula Theatre, corner of Ocean Beach and McMasters Roads, Woy Woy. Book online at or phone 4344 4737.

Central Coast Chorale & Chamber Orchestra presents

Sunday 26th November 2017 People spend their entire lives working to produce something of the magnitude of the ‘Messiah’ and Handel did it in 3 weeks. How extraordinary! He put everything he had into this inspired, powerful and emotional Oratorio. Handel’s ‘Messiah’ was composed in 1741 with a scriptural text compiled by Charles Jennens and was first performed in Dublin on 13 April 1742 and received its London premiere a year later. After an initially modest public reception, the Oratorio gained in popularity, eventually becoming one of the best-known and most frequently performed choral works in Western music. The Central Coast Chorale continues its fine and proud tradition of presenting innovative concerts. This concert is indeed a rare opportunity to experience music which transforms human tragedy into a triumph of the spirit. It’s of great significance at Christmas time celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, his death and resurrection offering hope to mankind. This is a Mass Choir event with 100 singers from the Central Coast and Hunter Valley performing this Oratorio with 5 outstanding professional Soloists and a 23

piece professional Chamber Orchestra. A concert not to be missed. Come along and make your Christmas a Celebration to be enjoyed and remembered. HANDEL’S MESIAH DATES: Sunday 26th Nov 2017 Commencing 3pm Gosford High School Hall, Racecourse Road, Gosford TICKETS: $35 General |$30 Concession | $15 Students Children 12yrs and under Free BOOKINGS: Telephone 4307 9355 or buy tickets at the door as the rascally Weasel, have come to life every summer for the past 15 years providing enchanting and lively entertainment for all the family. This critically acclaimed outdoor theatre production delivers music, songs and laughs. There is fun for young and old as the Head Chief Rabbit transforms the audience into rabbits with a waggle of the ears and a wiggle of the nose. The young ‘rabbits’ are encouraged to get involved in the action, and are given every opportunity to scream out loud, sing along and become part of the adventure. With laughs and surprises for children and adults, this is interactive theatre at its best.

Seacoast Fishing

Our commercial fishing business has been operating from Kincumber for the past 12 years and we have the freshest fish in town, straight from the boat to our shop, which is located 400 metres from the Scenic Road roundabout towards Macmasters Beach. Our catch consists of snapper, ocean jackets, bream, trevally, mullet. Mullet was the catch of the month (April) with Eastern Rock Lobsters. We also have local oysters, school prawns and a variety of frozen products. Mullet season begins as our weather cools and the westerly winds start, when the mullet ‘school up’ in large patches and head out of the estuaries and travel out to sea to spawn. Our licenced boys use the hauling nets to catch mullet travelling along the coastline before the fish head out to sea. Mullet has the best omega 3 oil content, which is so good for us, the flavour is strong, but its a great fish to eat. Open: Thurs, Fridays 11am to 6pm and Saturdays 9am to 6pm. Foodth wor ling l traveor! f

In the spirit of this Germanic tradition, Emma chose an Ahornberger Landbier, I had a dark Budwaejovicy, while Klara chose a glass of Wiernsteiner Gewurztraminer to accompany our entree of Cheesy pretzels.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Beer Fest Platter - half pork knuckle, crispy pork belly and Weisswurst - served with mashed potatoes and a choice of red cabbage or sauerkraut. (The portion was so generous, that Matteo had to help me finish it!)

The main courses were tasty and generous . Klara had the smoked Kassler Rib, which came with sautĂŠed potatoes and sauerkraut. It brought back many memories for Klara of meals with relatives during a visit to Germany, years ago. Matteo chose the Sausage platter - an assortment of cocktail Bratwurst, Weisswurst and Frankfurters, which came with a delicious housemade mustard sauce that really brought out the flavours of the sausages.

The flavours did not stop with the main course. For dessert Klara had the strawberries marinated in vodka served with ice cream, a house special. Matteo had the Hazelnut gelato, Luca had the homemade crepes with cinnamon, chocolate and ice cream, Emma really wanted the apple strudel and I had the Apple Fritters tossed in cinnamon sugar, and served with custard. We finished our meal with teas, coffees and hot chocolates too!

Luca and Emma were already looking forward to choosing the delicious Chicken Schnitzels, which are made fresh to order, and come in three sizes, with a variety of sauces. Emma selected the Ladies size, crumbed Hawaiian which came with grilled pineapple, cherries and Swiss cheese, while Luca had the Medium, Vienna Style Chicken

We all really enjoyed our meal and our expectations were definitely met! The service was outstanding, compliments to manager Paul Callahan and his wife Katy and the team at The Austrian Schnitzelhaus. Open 7 days a week from 12-3 and 5 until 9pm. Tel : 4367 4874 Emilia Krumm

Alison Homestead wins prestigious Garden Award Alison Homestead, home of Wyong District Museum, has recently won an award in the Wyong District 44th Annual Garden Competition. This is a great achievement for the volunteers who run and maintain the 2ha property after two years bringing the gardens back to life after the Homestead was rebuilt following the arson attack in 2011. In keeping with part of the long history of the site, the gardens are a very important part of its heritage. From 1919 – 1970 the Pearce Family owned the property. The Pearces were famous for their market gardens, plant and flower farms supplying both the Sydney and Newcastle markets from Alison Homestead. The onsite Nursery has a large selection of plants,

many of which have been propagated from the existing gardens on the property over the years. These are for sale from $3 - $10 each. The Museum and Nursery are open Sun – Thurs 10am – 2pm. Admission to the Museum is $5 for Adults and $2 for Children. Morning tea or lunch can be arranged for group bookings. For more info:

On board the ferry ‘Sorrento’, displayed on a large A/V screen, specially prepared Award Winning graphics, historic and onsite photographs, plus video of working models and animations. Shown throughout the tour with live commentary.
