F.O.C.U.S. Forging Our Community’s United Strength BECOME INVOLVED IN CITIZEN ENGAGEMENT with F.O.C.U.S. BICYCLE MASTER PLAN FOR CITY OF SYRACUSE: Bring your expertise, experiences, and ideas to the discussion on the plan – July 13 @ 8:30 a.m. in City Hall Commons: The City of Syracuse will hold its first public meeting on the Bicycle Infrastructure Master Plan on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at 8:30 a.m. Paul Mercurio, Director of Transportation for the City of Syracuse will launch the new BICYCLE MASTER PLAN in conjunction with the next Work Group meeting of the F.O.C.U.S. CNY Pathways/Connecting Healthy Communities, scheduled for Wednesday, July 13 at 8:30 a.m. in the Sustainability Showcase, City Hall Commons atrium, 201 E. Washington St. At this first meeting, the City representatives will be presenting a draft of cycling corridors, bike lane treatments, and recommendations for bicycle parking. These corridors have been identified through a rigorous 13 metric system. The bicycle lane and bicycle parking treatments will be based on national and international models that are compatible with Syracuse’s unique climate. We are looking for public feedback to verify our inventory and comment on the models we are proposing. It is hoped that with public support, and Council authorization, this Master Plan can become official policy of the City of Syracuse. The meeting is open to all who may be interested in alternative modes of transportation, Complete Streets, and safe bicycling. This is the first announcement of the plan. Discussion will follow. SMART GROWTH, COMPLETE STREETS, LAND BANK ACT, AND EMPIRE STATE FUTURE: Plan to attend F.O.C.U.S. Core Group on Friday, July 15 @ 7:30 a.m. in the Sustainability Showcase atrium to meet and hear Peter Fleischer, Empire State Future Executive Director who agreed to come to Syracuse to talk with us about Empire State Future plans for sustainable communities and to share ideas with communities in CNY. YOU WILL LEARN ABOUT EMPIRE STATE COALITIONS AND HOW CNY IS/CAN BE INVOLVED. DOWNTOWN WALKING TOUR OF HISTORIC SITES: Graduate Interns from Syracuse University Information Studies program, Yue (Alex) Wang and Chenzi Qian are creating an App for a downtown walking tour of historic sites. F.O.C.U.S. is partnering with Center State CEO that has already launched a mobile App for downtown businesses, arts venues, restaurants, and government buildings. When fully completed, this project will be inclusive of all areas in the region. F.O.C.U.S. offered to assist with the Walking Tour of Downtown as this was a recommendation made by the CNY Pathways/Connecting Healthy Communities Strategic Planning Group. The interns are also working with a private business AppFury partners, Steve Von Deak and Eric Hinman.
