Built to Entertain

Few cities can match the entertainment of Las Vegas. This is a town built on the shoulders of some of the greatest performers of all time— Liberace, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Bobby Darin, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Celine Dion, Elton John and Wayne Newton, just to name a few. We’ve got simply every type of show here—opulent productions, intimate lounge shows, over-the-top concerts and so much more. And this issue of Las Vegas Magazine just skims the surface of what’s out there for you to enjoy this week.

Let’s start with one of the Strip’s longest-running shows—36 years, to be precise. Tournament of Kings at Excalibur is arguably the best family-friendly show in all of Southern Nevada, a parade of gallant knights, evil sorcerers, fair maidens and lots and lots of cheering from the different countries (that would be you in the stands). If you haven’t yet been, get your tickets now for a show you’ll never forget (“Medieval Magic,” p. 34).

Now onto concerts! One of the biggest superstars on the planet, Bruno Mars, loves appearance in Las Vegas, but this is different—he’s going to perform two shows at the biggest performance venue in town, Allegiant Stadium. This promises to be one of the entertainment highlights of the year. Don’t miss out (“Infectious Energy,” p. 32).

How about some magic? Jen Kramer, who has been wowing audiences for years with The Magic of Jen Kramer at Westgate Las Vegas, has serious reason to celebrate this month—her 1,000th show in Las Vegas is upcoming and she got married! This city is built to entertain. This week proves it and more.

Limitless Boundaries

Immersive attraction is unlike any other in the city

Reality has boundaries. Infinity Museum doesn’t. This immersive museum gives you the sensation of existing outside the laws of physics. If you’re familiar with Yayoi Kusama, the legendary Japanese artist who has spent decades exploring infinity through mirrors, then you’ll recognize the DNA here. After slipping on the required booties to protect the reflective floors, you move through seven installations sequentially:

Stargazing is a dreamlike room that simulates the vastness of the universe. With mirrors that create depth that doesn’t exist, the stars here feel endless, as if you’re swimming around in an infinite galaxy.

Sphere Symphony constructs its infinity through perfectly placed spheres that seem to extend in every direction. There are loose spheres— giant balloons that magically change colors—on the ground that you can play with and bounce across the walls, creating a delightfully immersive playground that brings out the kid in all of us.

The Mirrored Dodecahedron— the world’s first walk-in version of this complex 12-faced shape—is a jewel box of geometric wonder. Every angle offers a new composition, a

new way of seeing yourself fractured across infinite transformations.

If you’ve been missing the fleeting northern lights that have made appearances across the U.S., just step into Aurora Reverie. This room surrounds you with waves of colors that dance like a celestial light show.

In the Wormhole, set aside time to watch the show, which transports you across the universe’s past, present and future. This is as close as you’re going to get to experiencing one.

My favorite is the Mirror Maze, which challenges your sense of perception. Inside this labyrinth of reflective surfaces, you’re given a pool noodle to poke the walls, figuring out which surfaces are mirrors and which are open space that you can walk through. It’s a geometric adventure unlike anything else you’ve ever experienced.

End your tour in Four Seasons, the world’s largest walk-in kaleidoscope, which interprets spring, summer, fall and winter in all their mirrored glory. Walking through is trippy and disorienting in the best possible way. – Genevie Durano

Get Altered

Surreal grocery store is just the beginning of an unforgettable journey

If you just walked off the street into AREA15 and saw the exterior for Omega Mart, you’d immediately think, “Maybe I should get some shopping done while I’m here.” But when you step into the space, something … feels … slightly … off. Yes, the normal shelves and displays are all in place, but what’s on them make you do double and even triple takes. “Crying Onion Chips?” “Tattooed Chicken”? An energy drink called “Dr. Supervisor”?

But wait. It gets far stranger. As you open doors, climb stairs and look around corners, it becomes clear that the grocery store is just the beginning to an altered-reality journey that will take you through what seem like limitless rooms. You’ll touch, hear, feel, smell and see installations that hold clues to figuring out an elaborate puzzle.

But whether you solve it or not is beside the point. Omega Mart is all

about transporting you to another reality, one where you can actually buy all the products you see offered on the shelves. Want to take a break and get a bit altered yourself? Head to the store’s speakeasy, Datamosh, pictured, where you order cocktails like the Old Fashioned Spray and Happle Juice. –Ken Miller

A Sure Bet

New to gambling? Let the experts give you some great advice

If it’s your first visit to Las Vegas, odds are you’re planning on some gambling while you’re here—including betting on sports. But for those who are new to the activity, you’re in luck! Las Vegas Magazine ’s Ken Miller interviewed two experts on sports betting in Vegas: Mike Palm, vice president of operations for Circa | Sports; and John Murray, vice president of race and sports at Westgate Las Vegas, to help you get the most out of your first experience.

Is there a guideline for gambling responsibly? Should it be a percentage of your entertainment budget?

Mike Palm: Absolutely, it is essential to set a budget. If you planned a trip to Hawaii, you would allocate a certain dollar amount for your hotel, for your meals, for any outings or entertainment. You should in the same way set a gambling budget. It should be just another form of entertainment for the novice player. Set a budget and stick to it.

John Murray : I would say that varies from person to person. I don’t think you can assign an exact percentage to it, but it should always be something you are OK with losing. Same as any investment.

What are the easiest bets to place, and what are some examples of this?

Palm: A simple bet to place is how many points will be scored in a particular game. For example, the first game of the NFL regular season was the Dallas Cowboys at the Philadelphia Eagles.

The “total” on that game was 46.5 points. The “under” bet is a winner if 46 or less points are scored. The “over” bet is a winner if 47 or more points are scored.

Murray : Straight bets are the easiest to place and the easiest to understand. Let’s say you want to bet the Cowboys Week One against the Eagles. The Cowboys are +7. Think of it like adding 7 points to the Cowboys score when the game is over. If the Cowboys win or lose by 6 or less, you’re a winner. If the Eagles win by more than 7, you lose. And if the Eagles win by exactly 7 points, you get your money back.

What’s a good way to place a bet?

Palm: There are two ways to place a bet. One is at the counter of a sportsbook. The other way is to go to a sportsbook, sign up for a mobile wagering account, deposit money into your account, and place your bet on your mobile device.

Murray : I think placing the wagers on the phone is the easiest, but you always have the option of coming up to the race and sports book window and placing your wager(s) with a teller. Some people may be more comfortable with that, and they should feel free to ask questions if there’s anything they aren’t fully clear about.

How can you enjoy yourself while watching your wager play out?

Palm: Being among a crowd of people rooting on the game at a sportsbook here in Las Vegas is definitely an excit-

Q&A

ing and memorable experience.

Murray : The SuperBook at the Westgate Las Vegas is the best venue in the country to bet and watch games at, but with the mobile apps these days you can play from anywhere. Your couch. Your bed. Your favorite dive bar. Who am I to judge?

There are thousands of wagering apps out there. Are there any particular apps you recommend?

Palm: Each app, like each sportsbook, has its strengths. As a novice bettor, the ease of getting money in and out (depositing and withdrawing) is likely most important. Of course, I would recommend that everyone look at the Circa Sport(s) mobile app.

Murray : Of course. The SuperBook mobile app. We were voted best in Las Vegas in 2025.

Does it matter what property you bet at?

Palm: The rewards program for sports wagers varies from company to company. You can get information on how your sports wagers are rated from each sportsbook. Some sportsbooks have a bigger menu of bets. Others may have a lower take-out percentage. There are also experiential differences from property to property. Maybe the customer is looking for a great culinary experience combined with their wagering. Maybe another customer wants an incredible pool experience while they are betting and watching. My advice is to shop around.

Murray : I do believe Westgate Las Vegas has the best venue for watching games in the city, but you can place your wagers with the SuperBook app from any property as long as you are in the state of Nevada.

New to the Strip? Download this app and it’s a snap

Navigating the Strip and surrounding areas can be overwhelming. Luckily, the Vegas2Go app, available in the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store, puts an extensive guide to the city right in the palm of your hand.

Simply set up your account and unlock a vast knowledge of the city, including special deals that you may otherwise miss out on. The app is locational, so once you’ve indicated the resort you’re staying at, toggle to the “selected” tab to see all the dining,

shopping, shows and lounges in the property. Then switch to the “nearby” setting to see all the options that are within a walking distance of your temporary digs.

If you have something specific in mind, perhaps a steakhouse dinner or family-friendly fun, use the search function. Use the red drop-down menu to search everywhere (which will populate results from all over the valley), nearby or in your selected property to find what you’re looking

for. And if it’s a one-off show you seek, check the “events” tab for an up-todate calendar of all the acts rolling through town during your stay.

Oh, and those exclusive offers we mentioned? They’re visible on each listing they apply to, so there’s no need to scour the web for ways to save on your Vegas vacay. Find an offer you’d like to use, select the “save” option and access it when you’re ready under the “saved offers” tab in the “more” menu. Enjoy! –Em Jurbala

What’s New

The latest parties, cocktails and nightlife on and off the Strip

Las Vegas is always on and poppin’, and you can always count on new ways to enjoy the real city that never sleeps. Check out the latest happenings so you can get your partying on.

Spring (even though it feels like the dead of summer!) always means new cocktails in Las Vegas. Some of our faves include one at Gatsby’s Cocktail Lounge at Resorts World Las Vegas.

The Smoke Blossom is a sweet and smoky blend of MalaSanta mezcal, lime, agave, yuzu bitters and fresh muddled strawberries. The Underground at The Mob Museum released new seasonal cocktails, inspired by cultural influences of the Prohibition era. Sip on the Aunt Vivian, a gin-based drink with fruity notes based on Roy Olmstead’s children’s radio program Aunt Vivian,

rumored to broadcast coded messages to bootleggers. Or try the Preservation Punch with rye, The Fuzz Moonshine, cinnamon, lemon, sugar, bitters and egg white, an ode to the days before refrigeration when ingredients used traditional preservation methods. And The Garden Party is inspired by the outdoor shindigs of the 1920s and is a mix of rhubarb gin, aquavit, aloe, lime

and rosemary. Back on the Strip, make a stop into the beachy scene of Cabo Wabo Cantina at Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood and get to sipping some new spring cocktails like the limoncello blueberry spritz, margarita rosé and the scorpion, with bite courtesy of jalapeños.

If you’re looking for a unique nightlife experience, it gets no better than Oddyssey Manor at AREA15, immersive nightlife with a series of experiential rooms and an interactive cast of characters that will guide you through 90 minutes of cocktails and theater. The vibe and decor is Prohibition era-meets-early 1900s Shanghai-meets-nautical themes-meets-seductive boudoir scenes. It really is one of Vegas’ most unique nightlife destinations, and if you’re looking to indulge even more, visit on Friday and Saturday nights for Oddyssey Noir—a late-night dance destination where the whole venue turns into a dancefloor with DJs, cabaret performers, breakdancers and flowing cocktails.

From night to day, Legacy Club, Circa Resort & Casino’s rooftop indoor-outdoor lounge, brings back its High Tea in the Sky event on April 11.

Beginning at 1 p.m., enjoy handcrafted tea-inspired cocktails, gourmet brunch bites, different tea blends, champagne and a venue transformed into a garden in full bloom with plenty of coquettish-styled photo ops. A live DJ keeps the party hyped, and guests leave with some parting gifts like a signature teacup and saucer. Tickets are $125 but include all you can drink, eat and party!

If getting back to late-night partying is still more your thing, Club Honey, a new party, pops off every Saturday night at Glitterloft at The Linq Hotel. It’s free to get in and guests can explore a multilevel venue inspired by New York City’s loft parties of the 1970s. DJ Lexto will spin everything from pop and house to classic rock, R&B and disco. Guests can also imbibe at the 99 Prince Street bar, a corner of Glitterloft that immerses guests in the street and subway scenes of NYC.

For country music fans, head to Stoney’s Rockin’ Country at Town Square Las Vegas. The country saloon-meets-nightclub welcomes a special performance by singer-songwriter Austin Snell on April 10 and, on April 11, enjoy Country Rewind, a special night of throwback country music hits from the ’90s and early aughts. Sip ‘N Tip Sundays invites guests to take line-dancing lessons from 3-6 p.m. (for a fee) and includes awesome drink specials like $2 drafts, $5 bottled beers and well cocktails. For those daring folks, there is also the mechanical bull, ready for buckaroos to test their skills. –Kiko Miyasato

General manager leads by example

Three decades in the hospitality industry and Ed Lee says, “It’s seeing that joy on the guest’s face, taking that first bite, taking that first sip, seeing that wow, that smile from them. It really encompasses everything that I’ve worked so hard for. I don’t have any regrets whatsoever; moving to Las Vegas was the best decision.”

He moved to Vegas from his native Brooklyn when he was just 18 years old and has been working his way through the industry ever since. “I fell in love

with the hospitality industry,” Lee says. “I’ve done every single job in the industry you can think of. I moved up the ranks and learned every aspect from casual to fine dining.” And for the past five years, he’s served as the general manager of Mercato della Pescheria, an authentic Italian and seafood restaurant located in St. Mark’s Square inside The Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian Resort.

Jack Binion’s Steak elevates its experience with a revamped menu

One of the Strip’s best steakhouses just gave you one more reason for a repeat visit. Jack Binion’s Steak recently revamped most of its menu, adding a wide array of new items that are sure to have fans making reservations as we speak.

One thing that hasn’t changed about this space

Prime rib

Jack Binion’s Sampler, crab cake and grilled bacon

(thankfully) is its vibe and decor. With its muted tones and well-appointed tables, not to mention its collection of vintage photographs from the early days of Vegas, it feels like a true old-school haunt. And the waitstaff is a hoot! Don’t be surprised to find yourself on first name terms with your server; everyone here is extremely personable and engaging. You really feel like a big deal here.

And what big deal wouldn’t want to start the night with a cocktail? Binion’s has a sensational signature collection, highlighted by The Boss’s Old Fashioned, a wonderful blend of Maker’s Mark, Angostura bitters, Regan’s orange bitters, a splash of club soda and an orange chip and Luxardo cherry garnish, all smoked in a case with cherry wood and brought to your table for a smoky reveal.

A few starters survived from the previous iteration, chief among them (again, thankfully!) the amazing ketchup spiced house potato chips with a Gouda fondue dip. But you’ll find new treats like potato skins, loaded with cheddar cheese, bacon, sour

cream, green onions and butter and served with Green Goddess dip, and light and flavorful fried zucchini sticks, served with a harissa aioli.

If you can’t decide, get the Jack Binion’s Sampler, which contains all three for a terrific price. Other great apps include the crab cake and grilled applewood-smoked, triple-thick cut of bacon.

If you want just a bit more before your entrée, definitely order the steak chili, so rich and satisfying with cheddar cheese, sour cream and scallions, or the baked potato soup, which contains the same toppings as the chili but with the addition of bacon.

You can definitely opt for a

steak here (who would blame you?), but you might want to check out some of the new signature dishes. The salmon, seared crispy and served with artichoke hearts, sunchoke, crispy artichoke leaves and tomato relish, will satisfy every seafood lover out there, while the braised short ribs, served with mashed potatoes and garlic gremolata, are fall-offthe-bone loveliness and may have you forgetting all about steak—at least for the moment.

If you do desire steak, you’ve got your pick of an 8-ounce filet mignon, 16-ounce ribeye or 12-ounce New York Strip, all of which come with a baked potato. (For a small fee, add crab cake, shrimp scampi or a lobster tail.). If you’ve got an enormous appetite, we heartily recommend the all-you-caneat prime rib special.

Desserts here are all winners, from the seasonal cobbler with a sweet biscuit and vanilla-bean ice cream to the chocolate layer cake, so substantial with a combo of chocolate buttercream, pretzel streusel and bourbon white chocolate sauce.

Jen Kramer celebrates her most magical year yet at Westgate Las Vegas

Some people come to Las Vegas to find their luck. Jen Kramer came to make the impossible happen, and she’s been doing exactly that since 2018. The only female magician headlining her own Las Vegas show, a Yale honors grad, and— plot twist!—a brand-new bride who said her vows on the very stage where she performs nightly, Kramer is truly a one-woman wonder. With The Magic of Jen Kramer at Westgate coming up on its 1,000th performance (April 24), Las Vegas Magazine chatted up the illusionist about marriage, milestones and the enduring appeal of magic.

You just got married at the Westgate Las Vegas. What was that like? It was the best weekend of our lives. We got married on the stage where I do my show. Cami Christensen, the president and general manager of Westgate, officiated alongside our rabbi, and the two other shows in our theater—The King Comes Home and Soul of Motown—both performed. Our Westgate family really came together. I do a quick-change act where dresses change in the blink of an eye—black,

pink, green, red, then blue. We customized it for the wedding, and the last one was a long white gown!

Your show is approaching its 1,000th performance. When you stood on that stage for show No. 1, could you have imagined this?

Time has just flown by! I remember our very first show so vividly—family and friends came out, and Gloria Dea, the first magician to ever perform on stage in Las Vegas, came to support. She performed in 1941. To have her there on night one, and now to be approaching show 1,000—it just brings back everything. When I was a kid, it was my dream to have my own magic residency in Las Vegas. Now I’m here, and I couldn’t be more grateful.

When did magic grab hold of your imagination?

Westgate

Las Vegas, 5+. westgateresorts.com

My Uncle Steve gave me a book called The Royal Road to Card Magic

for my 10th birthday, and I became completely obsessed. My first gig was my little sister’s birthday party—I was 11, paid in pizza and thrilled with the arrangement. That book is still my most treasured physical possession. You just never know the impact one small moment can have on someone’s life.

What does it mean to be the only female magician headlining her own Las Vegas show?

Magic has historically been so male-dominated. You conjure up the image of a magician and you think of a man with a female assistant. But that’s changing. When I first joined a youth magicians’ group in New York, I was the only girl—20 boys around the table and me. That same group now has several young girls in it. It’s a microcosm of where the magic world is heading, and I find that genuinely thrilling.

What is it about live magic that screens and streaming simply can’t replicate?

Magic evokes wonder. It makes you feel like you’re 5 years old again. To me, it’s about genuine human connection— it transcends age, language, everything. I’ve done trips with Magicians Without Borders to rural India and Central America, performing for people where we don’t share a single word of language. And magic still connects us. That universality is something I’m endlessly captivated by.

Bruno Mars brings his immense talents

to Allegiant Stadium

There’s something about Bruno Mars that’s just…magic. 24K Magic, if you will. (I’m cringing, too.) The singer-songwriter’s light, fun vocals, combined with his funky pop instrumentals, create so much joy when they grace the human auditory processing system.

In one of my most fond memories, my mother, a Mars superfan, took my sister and I to see the Moonshine Jungle Tour as it rolled through MGM Grand Garden Arena to promote the Unorthodox Jukebox album. That’s the record that brought fans delights like “Treasure” and “Locked Out of Heaven” and, my god, did those songs sound incredible live!

I can recall being so captivated by the energetic performer as he sang and danced with such infectious energy. In fact, as an awkward teen who hadn’t quite figured out how her body moved yet, it was the first time I’d ever danced at a concert. It was irresistible! Mars and his band brought his music to life in a way that made staying seated impossible.

If you’ve never had the pleasure of seeing Mars live, there’s no better time than now. Mars has been making his rounds through Dolby Live since 2016, and he’s played a handful of venues all over the Strip through

the years, but with his upcoming dates at Allegiant Stadium, the singer will be able to wow his largest Vegas crowd yet.

And with his latest album, The Romantic, released in late February, the artist has all kinds of exciting new songs to bring to the stage. When “I Just Might,” the first single off this album, came out in January, it was obvious fans were in for a treat. The groovy, high-energy track had listeners boogeying immediately and it was just a taste of the bops that were bound to come.

Of course, Mars sprinkled in a few soulful, vibey tracks in between the toe-tappers, which resulted in an album without a single song to skip. And if we’re lucky, he’ll treat us to the full album live in concert (with a few hits mixed in just to make all our dreams come true).

7 p.m. April 10-11, starting at $303.05 plus tax and fee. ticketmaster.com

The Vegas dates also bring Mars’ long-time musical collaborator Anderson .Paak as DJ Pee .Wee and Leon Thomas, who my fellow Gen Zers would recognize as Andre from the Nickelodeon original Victorious (and if you were really a Nick kid, as the singing voice of Tyrone in The Backyardigans). Thomas has been more recently recognized for his contributions to songs like SZA’s “Snooze,” which won a Grammy for Best R&B Song in 2024.

With even the nosebleeds starting at more than $300, this is obviously one of the hottest tickets in Vegas, but if you can score a seat, there’s no doubt it’ll be a show for the ages. After all, it’s Mars’ first global tour in nearly a decade, with the 24K Magic World Tour ending in 2018. And in that decade, Mars has produced some of the most exciting shows and albums to hit the market. There’s a reason his shows at Park MGM sell out date after date. He’s simply fantastic!

‘Tournament of Kings’ continues to enthrall and enchant fans 36 years later

Las Vegas is a city that has perfected the art of time travel. Want to dine in a restaurant where you feel like the Rat Pack could show up at any minute? Yeah, it’s got that. Want to feel like you’re squarely in the middle of The Great Gatsby? Yep, it’s here, too. And how about traveling back to the ’90s and some of the best boy bands of that era? We’ve got that in spades! But perhaps the best time-traveling experience on the Strip is one that’s been here the longest— and with good reason. Tournament of

Kings has, for more than 36 years, re-created the medieval era in all its armored glory, creating an audience experience like none other in the town’s history.

You get that special feeling the minute you walk into your designated country’s cheering section of the auditorium (Austria, France, Hungary, Ireland, Romania, Spain and Sweden) and gaze out onto the vast arena upon which Middle Ages combat in all its forms will ensue. Just in case you doubt the voracity of the combatants, know this: So scarred

702.597.7600

and torn is this arena that no less than 25 tons of soil need to be added to the arena annually!

The action unfolds rather low-key at first (there’s much pomp and circumstance before the action, not to mention an audience tutorial where you’re schooled in the art of shouting “Huzzah!”), but that’s OK, because you’ve got a meal to enjoy first! The entire menu is designed to be eaten by hand (no utensils at the time of King Arthur, remember?), so have the napkins at the ready after finishing off your roasted seasoned chicken, lemon pepper roasted potatoes, corn on the cob, apple square and dinner roll. (Alternate menus are available for vegetarians, and adults can order adult beverages.)

But when the action begins … watch out! You’ll see jousting, and weaponry of all types. (In a typical performance, six lance tips are sheared off in jousting, while 23 swords and 13 shields are put to the test.) There’s also plenty of horseplay—literally! These are some of the most well-trained equines you’ll ever see. (On average, 16-20 horses are in the stables at any given time.)

This is a sprawling tale of love, betrayal, death and redemption, all rendered before you by a highly skilled crew of 55 team members including audio, pyrotechnic, lighting, wardrobe and stage technicians, and cast members, including King Arthur, Merlin, riders, fighters and dancers. And while you might be a bit shy to shout your first “Huzzah!,” trust us: By the time this show is over, you’ll mostly likely be hoarse from the sheer number of times you’ve shouted it. It’s a rousing tale that continues to enthrall, captivate and inspire millions around the globe. If you haven’t yet experience the magic, time to join the fiery fun.

Gorgeous, delicious cocktails with a sugary touch

Sugar and spirits—sounds so nice … some even have a li’l spice! We’ve rounded up some sweet-tasting cocktails, some more like desserts, including the Sinful City (perfect for chocoholics!) and the Orange Dream (tastes like a Creamsicle!). Some have a unique ingredient that balances the saccharine, like the Lavender

Basil Lemon Drop (that basil-sugar rim, chef’s kiss!), the Belle Notte (freshly brewed espresso!) and the tropical sugar rush of the Vice & Virtue (delish strawberries mixed with a piña colada foam!). Go get your sweet on and take a flavor adventure by ordering five of our fave libations, which are sure to satisfy that (adult) sweet tooth.

The weather’s great— go and experience Southern Nevada’s outdoor paradise

Some of the most spectacular outdoor adventures in the American West are hiding in plain sight, just beyond the Strip’s glittering lights. From towering red rocks and snow-capped mountains to ancient petroglyphs and natural hot springs, the Las Vegas area offers an embarrassment of riches for those willing to trade the casino floor for a trail. Whether you’re looking for a morning hike or a multiday expedition into some of Nevada’s most remote wilderness, there’s a surprise at every turn.

to find world-class outdoor recreation. Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area sits just 17 miles west of the Strip, offering over 20 hiking trails that range from leisurely family strolls to challenging scrambles up towering sandstone formations. The 13-mile scenic drive provides awesome photo ops around every curve, while serious climbers tackle routes that have attracted adventurers from around the globe (hello, Free Solo -er Alex Honnold). Don’t miss the Calico Tanks trail—the panoramic views of the Vegas Valley from the top are simply incredible.

Spring Mountain Ranch State Park
Lee Canyon

For a dose of history, Spring Mountain Ranch State Park , adjacent to Red Rock, offers a glimpse into Old West ranching life at the historic ranch where Howard Hughes once lived. You can explore preserved buildings, tackle easy hiking trails and occasionally catch living-history demonstrations in this picturesque mountain setting.

When summer temperatures soar past 110 degrees in the valley, locals know exactly where to go: Mount Charleston. This high-elevation oasis boasts more than 60 miles of hiking trails winding through fragrant pine and aspen forests. Cathedral Rock is a must-do hike for all levels, but for those feeling ambitious, the 18-mile Charleston Peak—at 11,916 feet and the highest point in Southern Nevada—is a bucket-list feat. When the snow comes, these mountains are a sledding playground for kiddos and adults alike.

Speaking of snow: Lee Canyon, adjacent to Mount Charleston, serves as Nevada’s premier ski destination. During winter months, you can hit the slopes for skiing and snowboarding, then return during warmer seasons for world-class mountain biking trails and chairlift rides that offer awesome views.

Back in the valley, the Wetlands Nature Preserve is an unexpected urban oasis where boardwalks and trails wind through a thriving desert wetland ecosystem. It’s a birdwatcher’s paradise: Bring binoculars to spot herons, ducks and migratory birds—more than 200 species have been recorded. The miles of paved paths make it perfect for cycling, too.

Wetlands Nature Preserve
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area

For prehistory buffs, check out Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area, one of the Southwest’s most significant petroglyph sites. More than 300 panels contain thousands of ancient rock art images, and the easy 1.1-mile interpretive trail leads to spectacular red sandstone formations—all just a short drive from Las Vegas.

Water lovers should head to Willow Beach, where you can launch kayaks for a scenic paddle toward Hoover Dam or the stunning turquoise waters of Emerald Cove. The Colorado River here offers excellent rainbow trout fishing, while the beach area provides picnic spots and easy access for swimming.

Of course, no discussion of Las Vegas water recreation would be complete without mentioning Lake Mead America’s largest reservoir offers endless possibilities: Rent houseboats for multiday adventures from Callville Bay Marina; explore the lake by powerboat or jet ski from Las Vegas Boat Harbor at Hemenway Harbor; paddleboard in protected coves; swim at Boulder Beach; or explore hidden hot springs tucked into canyon walls. For a land-based adventure, hike or bike the Historic Railroad Trail. Five massive tunnels carved through the mountains in the 1930s during Hoover Dam’s construction now form a spectacular 3.7-mile trail with panoramic views of the lake below.

Lake Mead
Willow Beach
Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area

the adventures get even more spectacular. Valley of Fire State Park , Nevada’s oldest, showcases otherworldly landscapes of brilliant red sandstone formations and ancient petroglyphs. Key trails include Fire Wave for those Instagram-worthy shots, Mouse’s Tank for impressive rock art and White Domes for slot canyon exploration that feels like stepping onto another planet.

For a genuine Wild West experience, head to Nelson, a ghost town where original buildings, vintage cars and mining equipment lie scattered throughout the landscape. The nearby Techatticup Mine offers fascinating underground tours into the area’s mining past.

the rewards are extraordinary. China Date Ranch serves as your gateway to Death Valley, where you can sample fresh dates, learn about desert agriculture and stock up on supplies before heading into one of America’s most extreme national parks. (The delicious date shakes alone are worth the trip.)

Death Valley National Park itself offers experiences found nowhere else on Earth. Drive through Badwater Basin, the lowest point in North America at

282 feet below sea level. Explore the colorful mineral deposits of Artist’s Palette, hike through dramatic Golden Canyon and slide down massive sand dunes. Camping under Death Valley’s star-filled skies ranks among the best outdoor experiences anywhere.

For art lovers, stop in Beatty to visit the outdoor Goldwell Open Air Museum, featuring large-scale installations including the famous “Last Supper” sculpture. The small town also serves as another gateway to Death Valley.

Road trip enthusiasts shouldn’t miss the ET Highway, Nevada’s most famous stretch of asphalt. This 98-mile section of Highway 375 cuts through desolate, weirdly beautiful desert landscape. Stop at the quirky Little A’Le’Inn in Rachel for a burger, keep your eyes peeled for UFOs and experience the vast, empty beauty of the Nevada desert. The highway runs along the infamous Area 51, the top-secret military installation that’s fueled decades of speculation and conspiracy theories. the lights of Las Vegas take on a different glow. Sure, the city knows how to put on a show, but the real spectacle lies just beyond the neon—in slot canyons and dark skies, ancient rock art and endless desert horizons.

Finally, there’s Great Basin National Park , arguably Nevada’s crown jewel. Yes, it’s a five-hour drive from Vegas, but experiencing some of the darkest skies in the continental U.S. makes every mile worthwhile. During the day, explore the otherworldly Lehman Caves, hike to pristine alpine lakes or summit Wheeler Peak, Nevada’s second-tallest mountain. Fair warning: It’s a butt-kicker. Pack a tent—Wheeler Campground might just be the most beautiful campground in the entire state.
