This iconic restaurant celebrates more than a half-century of entertaining dining

You become part of one big family—and a big part of Vegas history—when you dine at Benihana at Westgate Las Vegas. The restaurant, which celebrates its 52nd anniversary this year, encourages communal dining around hibachi tables that can accommodate anywhere from small families to huge reunions. And from the second you sit down to the time you depart, the experience is unlike any other, from the food and the way it’s prepared to the friends you make.

The centerpiece of the 38,000-square-foot Benihana Village (which, when you include Rikki Tiki Sushi and Silk Road Asian Bistro, make this one the largest in the world) is practically an entertainment venue, with skilled chefs whipping up your meal in front of you, serving up New York strip steak and mushrooms (the most popular item) to the Benihana Trio of filet mignon, chicken breast and colossal shrimp. The two weeks of intensive training shows in every chef here; they’re quick with jokes as they deftly grill and move items around, never missing a beat.

Before enjoying your chef’s performance, make sure to enjoy something from the specialty cocktail menu. The Baby Blue Ocean, a lovely combination of Malibu rum, New Amsterdam

pineapple vodka, sake, blue Curacao and tropical fruit juices, can be ordered as a “punch bowl” for two or more, or order something for yourself like the Rising Sun Lemon Drop, so delicious with Ketel One Citroen vodka, Cointreau, fresh lemon and PAMA pomegranate liqueur.

We also recommend sampling an appetizer, from a sushi sampler of tuna, salmon, snapper, yellowtail and shrimp nigiri to shrimp sauté served with homemade ginger sauce. If you really want to splurge, the specialties menu offers not only your choice of surf and/or turf, it also comes with flavorful onion soup, a tangy salad and fried rice. Seafood fans will want to order the Ocean Treasure, featuring lobster, scallops and shrimp.

Over its half-century of existence, this Benihana has been enjoyed by some of the biggest celebrities and sports figures in history, from Michael Jackson and Lady Gaga to Mike Tyson and Kobe Bryant. It’s also undergone many phases, from a 1992 remodel to the addition of a sushi bar in 2002. But the basic philosophy of the restaurant has never changed: Make every guest feel like family. –Ken Miller

An Eventful Meal

The Las Vegas Strip welcomes the famous

Michelin-starred Indian fine-dining restaurant

When Gymkhana debuted at Aria late last year, the Strip welcomed something truly exciting: a globally recognized, two-Michelin-starred, Indian fine-dining destination. Straight from London’s Mayfair, Gymkhana brings classic Northern Indian cooking with bold flavors and rich, layered spicing. The design is inspired by elite social clubs, and the restaurant has the kind of culinary buzz that turns a meal into an event.

Founded by the Sethi siblings of JKS Restaurants, the London original earned its first Michelin star in 2014 and was elevated to two stars in 2024. For Las Vegas, executive chef Srikant Kumar leads the kitchen, offering signatures like tandoori masala lamb chops, chicken butter masala and venison biryani. For the first time, Gymkhana introduces beef to its menu, featuring wagyu keema naan, beef short rib pepper fry and an exclusive goan lobster curry created specifically for Las Vegas. A world-class Indian-inspired cocktail program rounds things out with drinks like the Maharaja Margarita and Patiala Peg.

Taking over the former Julian Serrano Tapas space, Gymkhana transforms the beloved space with a bold forest-green entrance, double doors leading into a mirrored foyer, and warm, clubby interiors inspired

by the Sethi family’s Pondicherry heritage. Jade green tones, polished dark timber and rich printed fabrics set the mood. It’s dramatic, luxurious and designed for a memorable evening in Vegas.

If the London menu is any indication, dessert should take center stage in planning your meal. London’s Gymkhana offers favorites like cardamom and basmati rice kheer. Served with figs, it’s a silky, gently spiced pudding in which the floral cardamom and tender basmati get a sweet, earthy lift from the fruit. It’s equal parts comfort and sophistication in a spoonful. The saffron pistachio ice cream falooda is a textbook Indian classic: dense saffron-infused kulfi, pistachios and delicate vermicelli noodles that deliver cooling richness with every bite. And then there’s gulab jamun, with gold leaf, the sweet, syrup-soaked fried dough balls topped with edible gold. Warm, indulgent and beautifully plated, it’s the kind of photogenic dessert that deserves to be pinned on your social media account.

With Gymkhana’s arrival, acclaimed Indian fine dining has finally stepped into the spotlight in Las Vegas. And we are so excited for it. –Genevie Durano

Let the Good Times Roll

This lounge has all you need for a fun night

Good times and good cocktails collide at Gatsby’s Cocktail Lounge. It’s upscale and chic meets house party vibes inside this hot spot located on the casino floor at Resorts World Las Vegas. Early evening welcomes more relaxed vibes, but once 10 p.m. rolls around the DJ kicks things into gear late into the night Thursday through Saturday. Making a reservation for a table is the best way to go if you’re with a larger group, but there’s plenty of open, high-top table and bar seating, too. But once those beats kick in, everyone is usually up on their feet and dancing.

Fueling the fun is Gatsby’s impressive cocktail program with a plethora of specialty cocktails. There’s even a secret menu (be sure to ask the bartender about the Champagne Bubble Bath). Go classic with a Moscow Mule with Absolute Elyx vodka, Fever-Tree ginger beer and lime juice or a Gatsby’s Gin & Tonic with Bombay Sapphire gin and your choice of Fever-Tree tonic in cucumber, elderflower or Mediterranean flavorings. Special recipe highlights include the Lavender Lotus (pictured) with Tanqueray 10 gin, dry vermouth, crème de violette, lavender syrup and egg whites and the Some Like It Hot with Volcan X.A. tequila, Fresno chili peppers, cilantro, lime juice and agave.

Don’t miss out on one of the best Monday deals on the Strip, $5 Martini Mondays at Gatsby’s. Yup, you read the right! $5 martinis! From 4-9 p.m., imbibe on five martini choices all made with Tito’s Handmade vodka: classic, lemon drop, Cosmo, dirty and espresso. Into bubbles? Gatsby’s is lauded for its collection of rare, vintage and popular champagne selections as well as a robust wine selection, hand-selected vintages that excite the taste buds.

If you want to make it a complete night of it, Gatsby’s comes in clutch with a food menu, too. Cheese and charcuterie boards are great for sharing, and there are even sushi rolls like rock shrimp tempura, hamachi and snow crab California roll. Other highlights include wagyu gyoza, blue fin tuna tartare and what some claim are the best chicken tenders ever! –Kiko Miyasato

Words and Music

Legendary performer gives audiences a look into his storied life

Accept no substitutes: When it comes to entertainers who embody the spirit of Las Vegas past and present, Wayne Newton towers above them all. The man has been performing for more than 70 years (most of those in Las Vegas), and has rubbed elbows with true Vegas entertainment royalty, from Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley to Bobby Darin and Danny Thomas. He’s performed more than 30,000 shows at hotels past and present, including The Fremont Hotel, Desert Inn, The Frontier, Sands, Bally’s, Caesars Palace, MGM Grand, Stardust and many more. His influence and impact are felt everywhere.

It’s this legacy that Newton brings to full life at his Up Close and Personal performances. During each show, Newton draws on a different chapter from his storied life, from raising Arabian horses and supporting the troops abroad to his TV and movie appearances. Even if you think you know everything about this man, you’re going to hear details you never heard before. The spontaneity of each show guarantees you’ll never see the same show twice.

And, as you would expect, Newton will still belt out a classic tune or two, from “Danke Schoen” and “Daddy Don’t You Walk So Fast” to “Red Roses for a Blue Lady” and, of course, “Viva Las Vegas.” And expect the possibility of a guest—or two. Newton has a huge number of talented friends. –Ken Miller

See It to Believe It!

While Las Vegas has many unique and memorable experiences, there is one that stands out from the rest— Stadium Swim . This pool complex at downtown’s Circa Resort & Casino really needs to be experienced firsthand to grasp its awesomeness.

“I love how unique Stadium Swim is, especially compared to other places in Las Vegas,” said O’ceana Clemens, Circa Resort & Casino VIP Services Manager. “I’ve never seen any other place like this. You get a mixture of people wanting to enjoy the pool but then people

that want to enjoy sports.”

Let’s count the ways Stadium Swim will blow your mind:

After stepping through those glass doors, the first sight to catch your gaze is the massive, 40-foot-tall, high-definition screen with 14 million pixels! You can catch multiple games playing all day—a true sports lover’s viewing experience.

Three levels of fun spreads across Stadium Swim. Each level offers cabanas and daybed rentals, and each level has a pool; there are six total. Lounge

chairs are free and open on a firstcome, first-served basis. The numbers are staggering: 200 lounge chairs, 32 booths, 32 daybeds, 28 cabanas, eight couches, four poolside boxes and two massive owner’s suites. The ground floor is where most of the action takes place with bars, DJ booth and gaming.

Don’t want to spend too much time away from gaming? Don’t fret, as blackjack tables are set up in a shaded area and open on the weekends.

The sound system at Stadium Swim is mind-blowing, and a live DJ keeps the beats bumping. Music is a mix of top 40s, pop, EDM, R&B, hip-hop, oldschool and rock. Daily live DJ sets keep the vibes at the pool in party mode.

There is a main walk-up bar on the ground floor as well as a swim-up bar (weekends only). Stadium Swim ups the

game by offering a huge list of specialty cocktails. A few faves include the Game Day margarita with Don Julio blanco tequila, Cointreau and margarita mix served on the rocks with a salted rim, the strawberry mojito with Mount Gay silver rum, strawberry purée, mint, mojito mix and a club soda topper, and the White Strawberry Lemonade with Skky strawberry vodka, strawberry purée, fresh strawberries, St-Germain and lemon sour mix. House-made seasonal sangrias and mojitos by the pitchers are also available in flavors like banana, coconut, pineapple and tropical. There are also several frozen drink machines

Pregame Properly

In town to catch the College Basketball Crown at MGM Grand Garden Arena and T-Mobile Arena? To celebrate, head to Stadium Swim for its Crown Town Fan Fest on April 3, starting at 11 a.m. This is the ultimate pregame party for the CBC semifinals on April 4 and the championship game on April 5, both at T-Mobile Arena. Activations like basketball-themed games and photo ops help transform the pool complex into an immersive party, along with themed specialty cocktails.

churning flavors like mango, frosé, piña colada and lemonade.

The food game is tight at Stadium Swim, too. There are some good eats on the menu like the taco trio with chicken or al pastor—or even vegetarian with beer-battered avocado. The Sonoran Dog is a wagyu hot dog wrapped in bacon on a brioche bun. Viral dish the Walking Taco is also on the menu, made with a bag of Frito chips stuffed with shredded brisket, black beans, queso, crema, jalapeños, guacamole and cilantro. If you’re with a group, the Stadium Platters are the way to go, serving multiple people with choices

like lobster corn dogs, gourmet grazing board with imported meats and cheeses, chicken fritter platter, nacho platter and seasonal fruit platter.

Stadium Swim is 21+, just like the whole Circa Resort & Casino property. Guests of the hotel get free admission, as well as guests staying at sister properties Golden Gate and The D. For all others, there’s an admission fee, but with all the amenities and the venue open from 8 a.m.-11 p.m. daily, the price is definitely worth it. –Kiko Miyasato

Kyle Johnson

Culinary director of operations keeps it all running smoothly

For Kyle Johnson, culinary director of operations for Brezza at Resorts World Las Vegas, the whole globe acted as a training ground. Johnson, a Vegas native, started working and staging in popular Las Vegas restaurants when he was 18, places like Alizé, Mix, Bradley Ogden and Guy Savoy. After a few years, he began working for a luxury cruise line in restaurant development, which allowed him to experience global cuisines.

After returning to the U.S., Johnson worked with famous chefs from Charlie

Palmer to Michael Mina at several places around the country and ended up in Vegas, where he became corporate chef for the popular Sparrow & Wolf and, most recently, Brezza, as second-in-command to chef Nicole Brisson, doing everything from planning menus to sourcing food and overseeing guest interaction.

In his role at Brezza, Johnson makes sure that diners experience the pleasure of Italian cuisine and experience the culture that is fostered there. “The name of the game is hospitality, from all aspects.

I really look at the entire guest experience from interaction with the guests’ table touches to ensure that they’re welcomed appropriately (and) that they’re served appropriately,” Johnson said.

At Brezza, “people are happy to come to work, and they want to be here, and they want to be professional, and they take the wine notes seriously, and the food notes seriously. To be able to continue to drive that program and have people be really happy to come to work—it only reflects into the service.” –Nina King

Caramella marries decadent flavors with familiar dishes for a luscious meal

B y Nina King

When it all looks so good, it’s hard to make a dinner choice, isn’t it? It’s doubly difficult when you love a cocktail to start. When you stop into Caramella for your evening meal, you’ve got your work cut out for you—let me help you out with a few suggestions.

First, try to score a patio table; it’s perfect for the spring weather in

20-ounce bone-in ribeye

On Mondays, Caramella offers Nonna’s Dinner Menu, and it will channel that nostalgia with classics like garlic bread, lasagna alla Bolognese with veal and bechamel sauce, spaghetti and meatballs with fresh ricotta, rigatoni Genovese with braised short rib, and Sicilian cannoli.

Vegas, and you get a great view of the Strip. I love starting my meal with a cocktail like La Granita—the addition of prosecco makes the blend of Maestro Dobel Diamante tequila, orangecello, lemon and grapefruit so refreshing.

If you are a fan of bourbon, The Gold Watch might be the drink for you, with Horse Soldier bourbon, Romana amaro, lemon, egg white and olive. If you prefer an alcohol-free option, the zero-proof version of The Gold Watch features Lyre’s American malt, lemon, egg white and olive.

Your basic arugula salad gets a nice upgrade here with shaved fennel, Parmigiano, roasted pine nuts and a lemon vinaigrette. The jumbo shrimp cocktail is a bigger version of the classic with Calabrian chili cocktail sauce, while the bone marrow surf and turf combines the marrow with rock shrimp slathered with garlic butter.

Pasta fans (and, yes, I am one) have quite a few options to choose from, including cavatelli Bolognese with ground veal, tomato and Parmesan. For a vegetarian option, the spicy tomato penne comes with a cream sauce and is accented with Calabrian chili and Parmesan. Another favorite of mine is definitely the spinach and ricotta-stuffed ravioli—who doesn’t like a plump pillow swimming in marinara?

For main courses, you can go the steak route, with such items as a delicate, tender 8-ounce filet, 14-ounce New York strip or a 20-ounce bone-in ribeye, with traditional sauces and even a Calabrian chili hollandaise. Get them with additions like Gorgonzola cheese, roasted bone marrow, lobster tail and jumbo lump crab.

Forgo the steak and you’ll find center cut lamb chops, chicken alla diavola with Calabrian chili, cherry peppers and olives, Chilean sea bass piccata with lemon, capers and butter, and stuffed chicken Parmigiano. For sides, you can’t go wrong with cannellini beans and escarole (a deeply flavorful dish), roasted broccoli, quattro formaggio mashed potatoes (cheese, anyone?) and mascarpone creamed spinach.

For dessert, you have several choices, but I recommend the signature Caramella tart, with dark chocolate, custard and salted caramel, or New York-style cheesecake with berries, a decadent morsel. (It’s more than a morsel, and easily shareable.)

Alice Cooper and

Criss

Angel welcome you to their nightmare

Some collaborations just make perfect sense. Alice Cooper, shock rock’s reigning godfather, and Criss Angel, magic’s self-proclaimed GOAT, were always going to find each other eventually. The only surprise is that it took this long.

Their limited engagement, Welcome to Our Nightmare, opened March 6 at the Criss Angel Theater inside Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, and if the sold-out March dates are any indication, Las Vegas visitors were super-thirsty for the mayhem. The first three shows sold fast enough to force the addition of more dates, and opening night delivered exactly what it promised: a 19-song, 90-minute collision of rock anthems and mind-bending illusion that left fans with zero photographic evidence—phones were strictly prohibited—and apparently a lot to talk about.

Cooper didn’t just play the hits. He dusted off deep cuts and delivered

PLANET HOLLYWOOD

three live debuts—songs that had never been performed onstage before, including “Cold Machines” and “I Am Made of You”—alongside a performance of the ballad “You and Me” for the first time since 1978. It was the kind of setlist that rewards the faithful: One fan on Instagram claimed he had seen Cooper more than 60 times and couldn’t wait for this particular collab. That’s the bar this show is clearing.

The duo isn’t shy about the show’s ambition and what they’re willing to do to deliver their fans’ dreamiest nightmare. In a post on Angel’s Instagram following the opening run, the pair addressed devotees directly: “We Thank YOU Sick Thing for the love. We look forward to terrorize your thoughts in an audio/visual feast for a night you’ll NEVER forget!”— signed, in true theatrical fashion, ALICE ANGEL (with a drop of blood uniting their names).

The remaining performances are your opportunity to get in on the audiovisual nightmare. For more than five decades, Cooper has used the stage as a laboratory (guillotines, electric chairs, boa constrictors), treating every tour like a dare, and

the catalog reflects it: “Poison,” “School’s Out,” “I’m Eighteen,” “No More Mr. Nice Guy,” “Feed My Frankenstein” and more, each song staged with the kind of theatrical menace that made him the architect of shock rock. Angel, who has spent over a decade building his MINDFREAK residency into one of Las Vegas’ most enduring spectacles, operates in that same register: dark and highly dramatic, conveying maximum visual impact. One early review described Nightmare as a Vitamix-style blend of both their worlds—intense, immersive and engineered to unsettle audiences in the best possible way. That they’ve been called creative kindred spirits for years makes sharing a stage feel like an overdue reunion. Tickets for the remaining dates, which are expected to sell out, have VIP packages available, including a backstage meet-and-greet with both Cooper and Angel.

But even if you don’t get that up close and personal, they’re promising a night you’ll never forget. Based on what’s already gone down at Planet Hollywood, that’s not a boast. Just ask anyone who was there in March. SWEET DREAMS!

Nobu Villa is the 10,300-square-foot crowning jewel of boutique Nobu Hotel at Caesars Palace

FLAWLESS FROM TOP TO BOTTOM, wall to wall and indoors to outdoors, the Japanese-inspired Nobu Villa exceeds all expectations of luxury living. With 5,600 square feet of indoor space— three bedrooms and four baths, common areas consisting of a media room, a sitting room, a formal dining room, a game space with pool table and an omakase sushi bar for private dining— the Rockwell Group-designed rooftop villa is only reached by private elevator. The 4,700-square-foot terrace, accessible through three different points from the villa, affords breathtaking views of the city lights up and down Las Vegas Boulevard and beyond. Outdoor living is easy with two shaded sitting-room spaces, daybeds and lounge chairs, with a hot tub inspired by a Japanese onsen tucked into a nook for more privacy.

Entertaining at Nobu Villa is divine, with an assortment of settings to choose from. With the 24-hour butler service, butler’s kitchen and pantry, guests are waited on hand and foot. Those who don’t want to dine downstairs at the famed Nobu restaurant can dine in the villa, where sushi chefs are able to whip up any dish from the Nobu menu. Guests can also celebrate on the terrace: The outdoor kitchen and bar—complete with robatayaki grill—make it the perfect spot for a party. Relaxation comes easy in the two outdoor covered living spaces, complete with sofas, lounge chairs, ceiling fans, flat screen TVs and adjustable lighting.

Throughout the entire villa, Japanese-inspired art pieces hold the gaze of guests, including an eight-panel art installation in the entry hall by Brooklyn artist Jill Hotchkiss. Each of the delicate scenes are sandblasted into wood and depicts a Japanese landscape outlined in gold paint. The two guest rooms, each with its own private bath and vanity, get lush touches of custom hand-painted wallpaper by De Gournay, with pastoral scenes including cherry blossoms and other foliage.

The master bedroom celebrates the tranquil side of the Nobu lifestyle while incorporating the most lavish features. The master suite comes with an en suite massage room, and French doors lead out to the expansive terrace with the Zen garden and hot tub. Adjacent is the master bath, reminiscent of a private spa with giant soaking tub, oversized shower, double vanity, sauna room and Japanese-style daybed.

It’s literally a cool experience at all three Minus5 Icebar locations

that admission includes your choice of wearing a parka or faux fur coat and gloves. Stepping inside any of the Icebars is such a cool experience as you’ll spot all manner of ice (90 tons of it!) from the walls and seating to the sculpture and glassware. The company procures the clearest ice possible, created by a special process that removes all air bubbles, and all the ice sculptures start off as 250-pound blocks of ice that are then carved by professional ice carvers. Return visits are a must, as all three locations refresh the sculptures and themes quarterly. Each Minus5 Icebar is designed with playful sculptures and interactive scenes; gloves will be hard to keep on because you’ll constantly want to conduct photo shoots so the folks back home can check out such a cool Las Vegas experience. It’s fun for the whole family with children welcome from opening till 9 p.m.; after 9 p.m. each location is 21+.

“There is no time limit at Icebar, and

we often see guests vying for longest stay, but I’d say our average guests enjoy the Icebar for 45 minutes to an hour,” says Blake Nightingale, Minus5 Icebar general manager and marketing director. “We provide all the gear to keep you warm, as well as keep each bar full of so many ways to engage and entertain within the experience, that many don’t realize just how long they’ve lasted. … Our founder discovered the concept cruising around the globe and instantly knew that Las Vegas was the perfect place to literally bring the coolest bar to the Strip! Our goal is to bring a truly unique and immersive experience to Las Vegas with unbeatable hospitality and great value. I believe we should be on everyone’s itinerary because we accomplish all that in the coolest and freshest way we know how!”

MINUS5 ICEBAR AT THE SHOPPES AT MANDALAY PLACE (702.740.5800)

This location is the longest running of all three locations and opened in 2008.

Even though it feels like summer in Las Vegas, it’s always winter inside all three Minus5 Icebar locations—The Linq Promenade, The Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian Resort and The Shoppes at Mandalay Place. It’s freezing, the temps kept at 23 degrees Fahrenheit, but it’s totally fun. As your nose slowly turns cold, you’ll warm your body with cocktails, and the fact

When you first walk in, you’ll discover an ode to the Arctic, with pictures set in ice of animals and scenery native to that part of the world. As you explore, check out the re-creation of the Zoltar Speaks game, made completely of ice, from the movie Big. There is a section tucked away that takes guests under the sea with floating jellyfish everywhere. There is a Viking ship you can sit in, decorated with Viking swords and flags. Take a pic while sitting on a throne

made of ice with a giant bear carved into it. And the coolest feature of this Icebar is the new vintage arcade section with images of old-school games, Nintendo controllers and an actual video arcade machine set in ice, on which you can play games like Pac-Man, Space Invaders and Dig Dug.

Our cocktail pick: Frosted Berries, a light and fruity cocktail made with Skyy vodka, peach schnapps and white cranberry juice.

MINUS5 ICEBAR AT THE LINQ PROMENADE (702.586.8925)

The largest of all three locations, this Minus5 Icebar has a ton of cool activations. The minute you walk in, you’ll be greeted by a very Vegas-y display with slot machines made of ice and a roulette wheel and cards set in ice. Any fans of horror movies? Don’t skip taking photos with the ice display dedicated to horror movies with ice carvings of characters like Pennywise and Leatherface. Fans of music festivals? Check out the DJ booth and speakers set in ice, trippy rave-like graphics and a TV displaying videos of festivals from around the globe. The mock fireplace with a giant tiki head made of ice is perfect for a group shot and check-in for your mission to Mars, with space-inspired ice carvings including a huge spaceship. A bonus of this Icebar is its loungelike space right outside along the Promenade, perfect for people-watching and enjoying another cocktail.

Our cocktail pick: Arctic Sunset, a fruity punch of Bacardi dragon berry rum, pineapple juice, lemon lime soda and a grenadine float.

Each location has a unique bundle experience that really builds in value to experience all three Icebars. Combine an ice experience with a yacht rock show at The Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian Resort or with The Booze Cruise cocktail experience at The Linq Promenade. The Fire and Ice Package gets you an Icebar experience, access to 1923

Prohibition Bar and daiquiri cocktails, as well as a couple of take-home souvenirs. Recently launched is the “Ultimate Polar Passport.”

The biggest bundle available gets you three experiences and three cocktails! It includes entry into all three Icebars, as well as a pass to Dreambox360 and the High Roller observation wheel at The Linq Promenade.

The Minus5 Icebars at The Shoppes at Mandalay Place and The Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian Resort are linked to 1923 Prohibition Bar, and Minus5 Icebar at The Linq Promenade is connected to DreamBox360, an immersive projection experience cocktail room.

Look for the QR codes frozen in ice and scan for videos and photos of cool stuff like some of the most popular ice carvings, how a snowflake forms and the ice caves of Iceland.

At The Grand Canal Shoppes location, on the door to the entrance, look out for the QR code and scan it to pull up a fun scavenger hunt game with clues all around the bar.

All three locations offer Dole Whip and vanilla soft serve cocktails like the Apple Pie with Crown Royal apple whiskey, Fireball whiskey, soft serve and cinnamon, and the Going Bananas with Howler

All cocktails and nonalcoholic cocktails are served in glasses made completely of ice!

Any Kenny Chesney fans? The coun-

try superstar finished up a successful residency at neighboring Sphere, and in honor of the occasion, Minus5 Icebar carved out a section made of ice ded-

icated to the music star and his spirit brand, Blue Chair Bay rum. The section is Chesney vibes, with beach-inspired surroundings like Adirondack chairs, palm trees and surfboards and one of the coolest ice sculptures, an ocean wave with ocean spray. Another recent feature is the 1923 Speakeasy Lounge. Sneak past the red curtains of ice and hang out inside this speakeasy with whiskey and gin bottles and vintage photos, all set within ice. Don’t miss the corner dedicated to Japan with a full-size ice samurai, the ode to Krylon spray paint with graffiti painted in the ice, a throne with a shark head carved into it and the dedication to Vegas’ Atomic Age in conjunction with the Atomic Museum, with photos of atomic bomb blasts, gas masks and more, all set within ice.

Our cocktail pick: Ice in da Coconut, in honor of Chesney, made with Blue Chair Bay rum, lime juice and lemon lime soda.

In the fall of 2023, Bellagio celebrated its 25th year on the Las Vegas Strip. In honor of its long tenure, Las Vegas Magazine highlights one of the resort’s most iconic offerings, the Fountains of Bellagio. It’s one of the most stunning attractions on the Strip, but it doesn’t just happen. The fountains have a crackerjack team working behind the scenes, 365 days a year, to ensure that the watery spectacle continues to flow beautifully after more than two decades. We went beyond the façade and captured the inner workings of the fountains—an operation that few are privy to.

Dozens of employees work on the fountains, including engineers, pool specialists and maintenance divers—and each employee is scuba-certified and holds Open Water Diver or Rescue Diver certifications. Get to know three of those employees, who have all been with the Bellagio since day one. You’ll also get a peek of the support area, where the equipment and mechanics for the fountains are stored. It’s a cavernous space just off the 8.5-acre Lake Bellagio that continues underneath the hotel. The inside look continues with the bat cave, compression room and the control tower.

Lead engineer

Where are you from?

Born and raised in El Monte, Calif.

What is your work background?

U.S. Navy boiler technician.

When you got hired by Bellagio did you have the title you have now?

No, I started at Bellagio as a security officer, but my dream was to work at the Bellagio fountains.

What was it like working for Bellagio when it first opened? It felt so amazing working for such a high-end resort and casino.

What does your current job entail?

I ensure our fountain technicians have the right tools to make the necessary repairs of all the lake equipment.

How often do the parts for the fountains need to be replaced or upgraded?

Having over 1,200 devices, we are constantly replacing parts that are broken or potentially worn out. Our goal is to ensure everything works perfectly at all times.

What are some of the most important things you need to remember when operating the fountains?

Safety is always most important to us. Beyond that, we make sure the fountains

look good and run perfectly for the many visitors that come to watch them.

How many dives would you say you’ve done?

Over 2,500 dives.

What do you love most about your job?

We are always working on something different; no two days are the same. One day we may be diving, another day working on shows, another day working with film crews for movies or commercials that feature the fountains.

What are some of the best parts about working for Bellagio?

We are always working with new exciting projects, film shoots and events.

There is always something exciting happening at Bellagio.

Maintenance engineer

Where are you from?

I was born in Burbank, Calif., and grew up in the Los Angeles area.

What’s your work background?

Warehouse worker and a college student at UNLV.

When you got hired by Bellagio did you have the title you have now?

No, I started in construction security at Bellagio. I did that until June of 1998

Richard Marker
Arnold Cabrera

and then I got into engineering and began working on the fountains.

What was it like when Bellagio first opened? It was great. I loved working during the construction of Bellagio, especially when they filled the lake with water. I used to drive my personal vehicle in the lake before they filled it up, which is such an awesome memory to have.

What does your current job entail?

I handle daily fountain maintenance. I do everything from working on lights to diving and repairing pipes and structures. I also rig and drive a forklift, booms and scissor lifts for the Conservatory.

It takes WET (the company behind the design and choreography of the fountain performances) several months to develop, design and perfect a new song for the catalog. Some of the songs include:

In celebration of Bellagio’s 25th anniversary, the resort featured a new fountains show:

Ed Sheeran and Andrea Bocelli

Cher
Lady Gaga
Bruno Mars

What are some of the most important things to remember when operating the fountains?

I always remind myself to enjoy the beauty and elegance of the Bellagio fountains—it’s so amazing how they make people

cry with joy and happiness and how they’ve become such an iconic Las Vegas experience.

How many dives would you say you’ve done?

I can’t even guess. We always log our dives, but after

25 years of doing this, I have lost count!

What do you love most about your job?

Diving and doing the lake maintenance (especially in the summer)!

Tell us an interesting story or two about your job at the fountains.

Working here has been the greatest job. I get to meet so many incredible people, from the people we work with to build structures on the lake, to singers and athletes who work with the fountains, to my day-to-day colleagues.

What do you love about living in Las Vegas?

Working on the world-famous fountains is a huge plus. I love that Las Vegas is a 24-hour town and much smaller than Los Angeles!

This is where the magic happens. The main computers that control the lighting, sound and performance numbers are located in this tower. Here is also where you’ll find the “famous” green button. At the top of the tower, accessible only by ladder, workstations command awesome views overlooking the lake. Each choreographed show is stored on computers. To start a new show, the file is uploaded and the green button initiates the fountains—a button only a handful of people have pushed, including this writer!

What’s the best part about working for Bellagio?

The people I work with. I have the honor to work with some of the most talented people!

Maintenance Engineer

Where are you from?

Born in Texas; raised in Las Vegas.

What is your work background?

I served in the U.S. Marines and worked as a Golden Nugget security officer.

When you got hired by Bellagio, did you have the title you have now?

No, I started at Bellagio as a security first responder before eventually joining the fountains team.

-Arnold Cabrera

What was it like at Bellagio when it opened?

It kind of felt like the first day of school. You don’t know anyone, you get lost easily and you’re trying to make a good impression, but everyone is excited for what’s to come.

What does your current job entail?

I work to maintain the tens of thousands of components that are in the lake. I handle proactive maintenance—fix it before it breaks. I adjust and calibrate the devices that you see during a show.

How many dives would you say you’ve done?

Well, I dive every day and I’ve been doing this for close to 20 years, so I have done a lot of dives!

What do you love most

about your job?

That it doesn’t feel like a job. Every day is like a box of chocolates!

What do you love about living in Las Vegas?

I love the heat and how I don’t have to wear a raincoat or shovel snow or

It’s so loud inside the compressor room that one is advised to wear industrial-strength earmuffs. Inside this room sits two of the large compressors (of 10 total) used in the show. The compressors operate at about 3,000 horsepower and push through approximately 9,000 cubic feet of air per minute. Large storage tanks of soft water, used for the fog that drifts across the lake, are also in this room. The ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) panel that protects people and equipment is also here. The panel shuts down all the electricity on the lake in the event of an emergency or electrocution, reacting faster than the blink of an eye.

rake up leaves. Working at Bellagio is awesome; your co-workers are like family and there are many opportunities to advance in your career.

What are some of the best parts about working for Bellagio?

Bellagio provides a wonderful, safe working environment and gives us clean uniforms, good food, high-level training, awesome benefits and everyone here has the same goal of giving our guests the best experience that they will never forget.

Inside the bat cave, located in the front features support area, is where you’ll find the water-emitting devices. Workers clean and repair all of them in-house. The devices include three shooters of different sizes that push water straight into the air at varying heights. The mini shooter (798 total) goes 100 feet up, the super shooter (192 total) goes 240 feet up and the extreme shooter (16 total) goes 460 feet up. The oarsmen (at top of photo column) spray water—this is where the “dancing fountains” come into play. There are 208 in the lake and 13 spares.

Gaming tips

Set a budget for gaming, and be comfortable if you lose that amount.

One of the easiest bets to place is the over/ under, where you bet on how many total points are scored in a game.

Don’t feel you need to spend your entire budget on one slot or bet. Move around for maximum playing fun.
