Obituary I am sorry to have to announce that Joan Stocks, the wife of one of our founder members Ray, passed away peacefully on the morning of 11th December, aged 91. Joan and Ray grew up together in Tickhill and were playmates from the age of five, and eventually became man and wife. Throughout their life they were always close together and after becoming associated with the Organ Society, they loved nothing more that to get up at the Saturday night dances in the Hall and ‘Jitterbug’ the night away, believe me, it was a sight to behold, seeing them moving across that floor. Even after Ray passed away in the early nineties, it didn’t affect Joan’s allegiance to the Organ Society, and she still attended every concert that she could get to, and also, along with her daughter and her good friend Ann Warrior, would come along and enjoy the Annual Buffet dances, even though dancing was out of sight by then. Over so many years, Joan helped our society in any way she could, be it serving tea or maybe washing up. Jobs that you don’t see but are essential to our success over so many years. Her funeral took place at Tickhill Parish Church on the 3rd January and was attended by many people, local and not so local, such was her popularity. It is an understatement to say that Joan’s presence will be sorely missed at our events, and as I said to her Daughter, ‘She will now be reunited with Ray, and they will be enjoying ’Jitterbugging’ across that Great Blue Yonder. Rest in Peace Joan.
