Congratulations to Nicola Hughes, the winner of this year’s Glyndebourne Wessex Association Award – an annual prize established in 1997 to support a promising member of the Glyndebourne Chorus in the pursuit of their career. In addition to performing in our chorus during recent Festivals, Nicola has already secured notable engagements as a soloist with recitals given at venues including St David’s Hall in Cardiff, Westminster Abbey and the Wigmore Hall. Audiences at Glyndebourne on Tour have seen Nicola sing principal roles in Jenu° fa, Hänsel und Gretel and, in 2010, as Damigella in The Coronation of Poppea.

With the Christmas holidays approaching, may we suggest a virtual visit to OPERA LAND – Glyndebourne’s exciting new website for children and young people. Opera Land uses a mixture of video, music and specially commissioned games to guide users through the key elements of opera before exploring in detail Rossini’s La Cenerentola and Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel, getting to grips with the background, music, story and characters. Featuring original extracts from the DVDs of the Glyndebourne productions, Opera Land is a great way to enhance children’s experience of opera or to introduce them to the art form. We hope to increase the number of operas on offer through the website and would value your feedback to help shape the future of Opera Land. If you have any comments on this initial stage of development, please get in touch with Glyndebourne Education via email@example.com We look forward to welcoming you to Opera Land soon!
