Dear Leader Please find the details of the Fun Day to be held At South London Scout Centre, The Fort, Grange Lane, London, SE21 7LH on Saturday 26th October 2013. After discussion with ADC it has been decided to allow for us to adequately cater for numbers in the future, events will have a registration date, full payment date and for those occasions when full balance has not been received by due date or if you wish to bring additional beavers we will have a higher rate day entry fee as standard practise.

Cost The cost of the event is £3 if booked and a place can be secured by a non-refundable £1 deposit per child (leaders are free) with balance paid for in full prior to the 20th of October 2013 If no registration has been made or numbers have increased then a day entry rate or £4 will apply. To register please complete the form at the rear of this letter and send to your ADC if you do not know who this is please contact acc.beavers@southlondonscouts.org.uk and I will forward you their details.

Timetable 11:00 meet and registration 11:30 fancy dress parade and competition themed on Pirates 12:00 wide games 13:00 lunch 13:30 treasure hunt - sponsored event with proceeds going to RNLI and Shelterbox. 14:30 water safety badge work with RNLI, Coastguard and others 16:30 finish and depart. Important information 

We will NOT be providing lunch…Beavers and Leaders will need to bring packed lunches with drinks as there are no rooms available at the fort that weekend.

It will be October so the weather may be inclement please advise your Beavers to be dressed in waterproof footwear and have raincoats with them. Shelter will be limited if we get caught in a downpour. You may want to attend earlier than the 11am start and erect a shelter of your own to perhaps store rainwear and bags etc. but we are trying to secure a covered area for lunch time.

It may be getting dark by the time you leave the centre we suggest that perhaps parents could collect your beavers from the centre or if you do have to travel back with you charges why not ask them to bring a head torch or similar and make it into a night hike back along Grange Lane?

Explanation of Items on the itinerary Sponsored Treasure Hunt This event will be question based clue around safety and friendship badge requirements and will direct the Beavers to what they should be finding not necessarily where they can find. There will be some basic tracking signs erected around the fields to help. Perhaps you can fit into your program a little time to show them basic left and right, water hazard, general hazard and gone home tracking signs. There will be 20 ‘objects’ to find and certificates will be issued post events to all those taking part for the most money collected.

Sponsor forms are attached to the back of this letter and any additional pages can be printed off as required. This event is part of the Friendship Challenge and is in aid of the RNLI who are one of the main outside agencies coming to provide help on this event. Shelterbox is a National campaign that UK Scouting is involved in and participation will count towards the Shelterbox badge. We will be splitting funds raised through sponsorship to the two charities equally and our County Challenge will be for the Beaver Section to raise enough money for a County Beaver Section Box. th

Sponsorship money will need to be submitted to County by 30 November 2013. Full details of where to submit final amounts and how will be issued post the event.

Fancy Dress Competition This event has been placed at the beginning of the day so that costumes do not get destroyed during the day and that if people have problems with public transport they do not miss out on the main parts of the day due to take place in the afternoon sessions. Winners of the competition will be asked to attend a special event arranged later in the year to present a cheque to the RNLI at a special venue.

Water Safety Interactive Sessions A number of external agencies have been invited and have agreed to offer interactive sessions to Beavers. We will be splitting people in groups of a size that each session can cope with. Whichever agency your group(s) attends will receive a similar amount of information as per the badge requirements for both the Friendship challenge and the safety badge it should not matter which agency your groups end up meeting with. At this point in time we can offer no further detail until we have a rough idea of numbers so please do try and pre-register numbers (equally this will aid in making sure that covered provision of lunchtime is adequate). It is hoped that during the last half hour people can visit some of the other agencies as well so as to view what they have bought with them. Again this is dependent upon numbers so advising us early of your numbers will help to improve your colony’s experience.

Finally… Maybe you are not involved with Beaver but you think you would like to see what is happening or you need to validate some of your training modules.

We are looking for volunteers to run an hour’s worth of wide game which can then be used to validate young leader or adult modules. The more volunteers the shorter the session you would run. Please contact acc.beavers@southlondonscouts.org.uk to discuss further. We will also be looking for marques/awnings for the lunchtime break can your group offer either equipment or bodies to help put these up prior to the event starting on the Saturday morning. Again please contact acc.beavers@southlondonscouts.org.ukif you can help.

th

We look forward to see you on the 26 October 2013.

On behalf of GLS and your local ADC Beavers
